<customminer> jamezz: It's only fair to continue serious conversation (that's off topic) in the otc channel. It applies to everyone.
<customminer> jamezz: Did you not have an invite code to ddm or yafu? Usually it's on their page.
<jamezz> na
<customminer> It's to prevent spam signups on projects

<moisesm123> So I took out the Kangaroo battery. Had to reinstall Windows 10. Not sure if it turned off at boot due to Power Management issues or because of the way Windows 10 was preinstalled
<moisesm123> either way, it is now booting up. I´ll install the updates and see
<moisesm123> but I really don´t know why the heck if Kangaroo people know the Kangaroo overheats, why they put the battery right at the side of the processor, when the battery will receive a lot of heat making it expand and swell
<moisesm123> gonna eat breakfast. Be right back
<moisesm123> hmm, interesting fact. After removing the battery AND having the case opened, it seems the processor thermal throttling is better
<moisesm123> PC says, 0% available (plugged in, not charging) instead of saying there´s no battery connected. I assume this is normal for a PC with an ¨integrated battery¨ (which is actually not integrated as it can be removed disconnecting the cable from the motherboard)

<fkinglag> yeah Erkan_Yilmaz but I'm more concerned about memory, the storage isn't something that'll be issue for me coz I can resize it
Chick3nman has joined #gridcoin
<fkinglag> the memory is a lil bit more tricky

<Erkan_Yilmaz> and does it matter ?
<fkinglag> yeah breathing room
<fkinglag> i guess
<Erkan_Yilmaz> if it is too low, you just shutdown the Vm and add more RAM

<Peppernrino> boinc manager>options>computing preferences
<Zach_S> i mean the project settings, like how you can set different settings for home and work
<Peppernrino> beyond that, you have to lgin to each site

<Peppernrino> think though...
<Peppernrino> you set the project as home or work

<Zach_S> i just did what fkinglag told me
<Zach_S> yeah just 2
<Zach_S> maybe my phone

<fkinglag> use the backup function in the wallet Zach_S
<Zach_S> done
* Peppernrino backs up entire gridcoinresearch folder onto USB
<fkinglag> gross, Peppernrinop
<fkinglag> -p
<Peppernrino> also, you can look for it in the folder
<Peppernrino> search c drive for wallet.dat. put it in a usb by itself
<Zach_S> so why does fkinglag keep saying that collatz gives shit reward but for me it gives the best reward?
<Peppernrino> with .conf file and wallet backups
<Pakaran> hi
<Peppernrino> it gives a fuckload of credits
<Peppernrino> but not much gridcoin
moisesm123 has quit [Ping timeout: 258 seconds]
<Peppernrino> the way it works is you put your credit gain against everyone else that is also running the project, and you split a percentage per project
<fkinglag> exactly
<Zach_S> on katiee's GRC calc it gives more coin than everything else
<fkinglag> that's because you don't know the results of any other project for your GPU to crunch, Zach_S
<Peppernrino> don't waste such a beautiful gpu on collatz pls
<fkinglag> you can also see which projects have less people in it
<Zach_S> so delete the project?
<fkinglag> that way you can get a larger piece the pie
<fkinglag> Zach_S YES
<Peppernrino> you'd probably do well on primegrid
<fkinglag> remove, rather
<Peppernrino> tbh
<fkinglag> you can always do collatz later
<fkinglag> coz collatz is a slut
<Peppernrino> you can keep it
<Peppernrino> just click "don't allow new tasks"
<Zach_S> i deleted it
<Peppernrino> then if primegrid blows up you just turn that switch off so you can keep crunching
<fkinglag> if you remove then it gets rid of the disk space is uses, too
<Peppernrino> downtime is the worst feeling
<Peppernrino> lol
<fkinglag> yeah
<Peppernrino> <Zach_S> i deleted it
<Zach_S> i get a lot of downtime though
<fkinglag> Einstein@home getting downtime soon
<Zach_S> oh
<Peppernrino> oh yeah?
<Zach_S> that kind of towntime
<Zach_S> downtime
<fkinglag> they say their website going down in early August
<Zach_S> whats that mean exactly
<fkinglag> idk how that effects WU
<Zach_S> how long?
<fkinglag> couple days
<Peppernrino> speaking of... just remembered the power went out... gonna go turn everything back on
<fkinglag> big server move they said
* Peppernrino turns everything on
* fkinglag basks in the heat

<Zach_S> i kept geting these drops that would put me at 0FPS for like 5 seconds and then like 20FPS for another 15 seconds
<Zach_S> arma is crazy cpu dependent
<Zach_S> after i shut the wallet down the drops stopped
<HeyMerlin> hmm
<Peppernrino> Mercosity: is it PCI or PCI-E?
<Zach_S> but it also happened though at a much lesser degree on other games
<HeyMerlin> you can move your wallet to your laptop.
vega30000 has left #gridcoin [#gridcoin]
<Zach_S> yeah but then I cant copy and paste my recieving address as easily
<HeyMerlin> just copy the entire wallet folder over... you don't need it all but it will mean you don't have to resync as much.
<Peppernrino> put it in a txt file
<Peppernrino> it's public, dopesn't matter if it gets hacked. :)
<Peppernrino> i have a nice list of all my wallets in a txt file
<Zach_S> wait so should I encrypt it?
<HeyMerlin> yes
<Peppernrino> the wallet?
<Zach_S> yea
<Peppernrino> hell yes. you already did with fkinglag
<HeyMerlin> then unlock for staking only.
<Zach_S> i never did
<Peppernrino> ...
<Peppernrino> dude
<Peppernrino> lol
<HeyMerlin> write the passphrase down, if you forget it you are screwed.
<Peppernrino> you can't have sent the beacon if you didn't encrypt the wallet...
<Zach_S> this all started with fkinglag talking about crytocurrencies and shit so I asked what can I do to get use out of my computer while im not gaming
<Peppernrino> nice
<Zach_S> and he told me to mine gridcoin with boinc projects
<Peppernrino> good boy
<Zach_S> and i just did what he told me to
<Peppernrino> it's ok man
<HeyMerlin> Peppernrino: are you sure.... I sent plenty of beacons when I was not encrypted.
<Peppernrino> not a big deal
<Peppernrino> you've probably done it.
<Zach_S> he ever told me to encrypt, i guess it was so obvious to him he forgot...
<Peppernrino> "you can't have sent the beacon if you didn't encrypt the wallet..."
<HeyMerlin> Zach_S: do you run your laptop on the same desk as your desktop?
<Zach_S> wait really?
<Peppernrino> do you enter a passphrase to unlock the wallet?
<Mercosity> Somehow I thought X4 would slow it down. Should have no problem with power though as I can add a second power supply to the server. The slots are 2 x PCI-X and 6x PCIe X4 slots.
<Zach_S> my laptop runs on a shelf right next to me
<Zach_S> no I never encryted it Peppernrino
<Peppernrino> x4 only matters for games
<Peppernrino> that's weird.
<Zach_S> but I was still able to send the beacon
<Peppernrino> O_o
<Zach_S> fuck what did I do
<Peppernrino> fkinglag: what did you do?

<GRCB0T> Title: Synergy - Mouse and keyboard sharing software (at symless.com)
<Zach_S> what did I do by not encrypting it Peppernrino ?
<HeyMerlin> nothing Zach_S it is just a risk of losing your coins
<Peppernrino> expose yourself to theft
<HeyMerlin> to malicious software, etc.
<Zach_S> well I only have like 265 coins
<HeyMerlin> encrypt the wallet for safety... write the pass phrase down... unlock for staking only.
<Zach_S> i cant think of a passphrase
<Peppernrino> i love heymerlin's tone "no big deal, just the worst shit you can imagine."
<Peppernrino> loool
<Zach_S> fuck it i'll just use a password I already use, its long enough
<HeyMerlin> then if you need to send coins... unlock completely, send coins, lock, unlock for staking only.
<Zach_S> soon I want to get a password manager though
<HeyMerlin> think of a sentence and use it...
<Peppernrino> DON'T re-use passwords
<Peppernrino> ever
<Zach_S> yeah I know...

<vega40k> Peppernrino: plz post the list of umodes for freenode and all this security stuff

<HeyMerlin> Zach_S: if you re-use passwords then keep an eye on the hacks of various sites to ensure one is not compromised... if it is then for you it is on all your sites that you use the same password.

<Zach_S> yeah I know that...

<Zach_S> i just havent wanted to set up a manager yet
<Zach_S> maybe I'll do that now

<Peppernrino> trust me.
<HeyMerlin> Emptybeerbottle: my wifi password for years was "ForArsesToPonder".... gets a good reaction and friends remember it.
<Peppernrino> then you just copy paste shit

<Mercosity> As you can see from that and the lack of replies to the post there's very little help out there. Incorrectly says it's a DL830 but its a DL380 which is rack format. Mine's a free standing server so standard internal risers wouldn't work without resorting to the a hacksaw job which I'm not contemplating at the moment.

<Erkan_Yilmaz> and is easy to do
<xXUnRealXx> shouldn't be hard, I'm just not that good with coding
<xXUnRealXx> its simple links and formatting
<Erkan_Yilmaz> yes
<xXUnRealXx> as the gridcorp layout is always the same shouldn't be a big problem o format
<Erkan_Yilmaz> your nick is ideal
<Erkan_Yilmaz> so, research owed: done
<Erkan_Yilmaz> I still don't know the kat's part
<xXUnRealXx> had it for over 25 years

<Erkan_Yilmaz> I really don't know where it is, sorry
<Erkan_Yilmaz> mind giving me a link ?
<GRCB0T> Title: Katiee's GRC Magnitude/Earnings Calculator (at www.gridcoin.co)
<Erkan_Yilmaz> ok, since same cpid: nice
<xXUnRealXx> has to be same cpid
<xXUnRealXx> its your boinc fingerprint
<xXUnRealXx> so to speak
<Erkan_Yilmaz> and you want from there the Gridcoins per day for example ?
<xXUnRealXx> just important stuff
<customminer> What should we include in the first gridcoin newsletter?
<Erkan_Yilmaz> customminer: how awesome GRC is
<Erkan_Yilmaz> quite awesome, even
<Erkan_Yilmaz> ;-)
<customminer> Erkan_Yilmaz: haha, working on that ;D
<xXUnRealXx> sort of a go to personal stats pulled from boincstas, kat balance etc...
<Erkan_Yilmaz> xXUnRealXx: so, I can get you the 5 field from totals from kat's
<xXUnRealXx> sort of a boinc/kat hybrid version for IRC lol
<Erkan_Yilmaz> yeah, easy to do, since I know now what it should be
<Erkan_Yilmaz> I am only worrying about too many accesses and then being blocked, so I will also cache some results
<Erkan_Yilmaz> and on request read actively
<xXUnRealXx> the !cpid used to show a few more stats
<Erkan_Yilmaz> if you tell me what, then I can do that also
<xXUnRealXx> make me 250K $ i don't need more
* Erkan_Yilmaz interprets that as joke and smiles
<Erkan_Yilmaz> customminer: what is the goal of the newsletter ?
<Erkan_Yilmaz> activating new users, users who don't contribute anymore, or active users ?
User__ has joined #gridcoin
<customminer> all of the above
<aybiss> apparently my CPID is not found. is there a different CPID allocated when you use the pool account manager or something?
<Erkan_Yilmaz> when you use pool, you have no cpid
<Erkan_Yilmaz> you are being a slave for Katie's cpid
<Erkan_Yilmaz> Katie's cpid gets credited everywhere
<Phay> xxunrealxx
<xXUnRealXx> sup bud
<Phay> yo. been cleaning.. and was gaming much earlier when you addressed me
<aybiss> oh ok so i can't see my individual earnings
<Phay> cockroaches......
<Phay> heyo aybiss
<customminer> Erkan_Yilmaz: We've got 2k active members, but 5k inactive users. We've got low foundation poll participation, we need to recruit developers and inform all Gridcoin users (old/new) of changes & upcoming events/competitions.
<Erkan_Yilmaz> aybiss: you can, on your pool page
<xXUnRealXx> Madagascar rockroaches? If so They Worth 80$ each
<Phay> xxunrealxx: The desk is completely disassembled right now..
<aybiss> hey phay
<Phay> Had to for the move
<Erkan_Yilmaz> ignore the active ones first, they know probably most stuff
<xXUnRealXx> how did the move go
SudoNull- has quit [Ping timeout: 276 seconds]
<Phay> eh... Just now doing some of the final cleaning/unpacking stages (now as in today). It has been an exhausting 2 months. not that great overall
<Phay> what about you xxunrealxx. hru? I never see you
<Erkan_Yilmaz> customminer: when ignoring the active ones, the poll issue also goes away
<xXUnRealXx> work and than took some vacation just got back last week
<Erkan_Yilmaz> dev catching is done via incentive, so works + is easy to market
<Phay> makes sense. lez move to otc xxunrealxx
<Erkan_Yilmaz> leaves still: "inform all Gridcoin users (old/new) of changes & upcoming events/competitions."
<xXUnRealXx> I'm lazy

<apc> anyone heard of tablet mining burning the screen?
<apc> boinc on a tablet in general, rather
<Erkan_Yilmaz> if it uses all cores, why not ?
<customminer> apc: If your tablet has been overheating then sure it could occur.
<customminer> apc: To what degree is the screen burnt? Like has it caught fire?
<apc> I'm just wondering. I'm going around putting boinc on everything and it gives me pause
<apc> side note: my laptop is sitting at ~85C average core temp
<apc> but my workstation has good cooling, so no worries there
