omg , boinctui for a control interface is zomg sexy on my machines...
<jamezz>
didnt know bout it , and on linux would prefer something like HTOP for an interface via ssh
<jamezz>
realized , my ssh sessions dropping killed boinc... and went to screen them and installed that... ohhh yeahhhh
<fkinglag>
anybody else watching the RNC live right now?
<sbits>
okanything good?
<Phay>
jamezz
<jamezz>
Phay
<Phay>
I agree. I love boinctui so much
<jamezz>
werdz , i got an issue with it now
<Phay>
hmm?
<jamezz>
dir_open: Could not open directory 'locale' from /etc/boinc-client
<jamezz>
looking right now
<jamezz>
just fixed last error
<jamezz>
grrr i knew i shoulda done boinc by source and not apt , and ofcourse not the linux script
<jamezz>
lol
<jamezz>
hell all 4 machines seem to be crunching but this looks like i gotta start over
<jamezz>
wtfmate!
<fkinglag>
sbits, nope just wondering
<jamezz>

<jamezz>
for shiz n giggles
<Phay>
idk jamezz. I didn't try and understand it that much
<sbits>
everything is slow
<Phay>
used it on only one machine.. going to use it more later.
<jamezz>
all 4 are fixed
<jamezz>
less than 50 key stokes for all 4 machines
<jamezz>
!!
<Phay>
stokes
<jamezz>
just mkdir locale and chmod 755 and up arrow 3 times to boinctui
<jamezz>
:)
<jamezz>
all kosher
<jamezz>
just needed a spot for files i gues
<Phay>

<jamezz>
boinctui is a game changer , to bad its a dead project.. thank god it works
<jamezz>
the " htop for cli boinc "
<Peppernrino>
somebody gonna change the topic, or hwat?
<Peppernrino>
people that say "fuck" things they take advantage of.
<Phay>
?
<Phay>
I don't understand what that sentence means
<Peppernrino>
best you don't
<Peppernrino>
you'll be a happier person
<Phay>
ok
<Phay>
sorry if i did anything :\
<jamezz>
you a pothead too Phay?
<Phay>
What is the "north bridge/board" on a mobo? I looked it up, but I'm having a really hard time understanding what it is. Like language processing disorder understanding
<jamezz>
the cpu and memory controler
<Phay>
can someone explain it or dumb it down for me here please?
<Peppernrino>
one of the chips
<jamezz>
if board is facing right like normal inside a machine
<Peppernrino>
there's two of them basically. besides the one you put in
<jamezz>
its top
<jamezz>
i can point in img?
<Phay>
but why does the north board (or is it bridge?) not seem to matter as much
<jamezz>
does IO for mem,cpu and slots
<Phay>
like you can't choose it
<jamezz>
south
<jamezz>
why we got bridges?
<jamezz>
i think we need 1
<jamezz>
and no cpu
<jamezz>
just THE CHIP
<jamezz>
lol
<Peppernrino>
northbridge matters for lots of stuff. overclocking etc.
<jamezz>
then the data pathways are shorter and faster
<Phay>
rly??
<jamezz>
less heat
<Phay>
overclocking??
<Phay>
why isn't it modular?
<jamezz>
who says some arent?
<jamezz>
i have modular
<jamezz>
freescale stuff
<Phay>
what?? that's a thing????
<jamezz>
i want pi
<jamezz>
cuz i seen boinc on pie with boinctui is how i found bounctui
<jamezz>
lol
<jamezz>
whats a thing a majig?
<jamezz>
and a whachamacallit?
<Phay>
???
<jamezz>
yum install whosit
<jamezz>
:S
<Phay>
It's weird seeing how on some motherboards, you can see the chip, but others you can't
<Phay>
Idk if they're standardized
<Phay>
but it's not a controller?
<Phay>
so is it one of the most important parts (built in parts) of the mobo?
<jamezz>
you mean cuz its covered by plastic for airflow guiding and or heatsyncs? or
<jamezz>
like bios chips , you have a glass plate and can see the die
<Phay>
maybe heatsinks
<jamezz>
thats how you reprogram them
<jamezz>
ahh
<jamezz>
ya just newer cooling
<jamezz>
i had to modify by board with about 15 mini heatsyncs
<Phay>
like this dell northbridge is just the raw chip
<Phay>
you can see it
<Phay>
but all my other mobo's must have a heatsink over them
<Phay>
would it do literally anything to put a small heatsink on this dell northbridge?

<Erkan_Yilmaz>
google, and write your answer in #gridcoin-otc

yes. bridge the adapters. one adapter goes internal, other adapter goes to the internet.
<Phay>
.-.
<Phay>
thx 4 the life advice bud
<NeuralMiner>
no prob
<Phay>
oh. oops
<Phay>
was talking to Erkan and did not see your answer :V
<Phay>
but won't that create "lag"
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
now you are happy, anyways
<NeuralMiner>
depends on how much you're pushing through the board. big server, small load... not really.
<Phay>
OH
<NeuralMiner>
easy to test. ping directly without server, install server, ping same place again.
<Phay>
Oops
<Phay>
I misread your answer
<Phay>
I thought you meant like a external rj-49 adatper
<NeuralMiner>
the server has two adapters, right?
<Phay>
yeah
<Phay>
just Ubuntu Server 14 on it
<NeuralMiner>
so one of the adapters goes into your internal network that you want to give internet access to, and the other adapter plugs into the internet. then you bridge the two together.

If you wish to use the PPA on Jessie: If you use the PPA, you can use the trusty version and only have to downgrade dependency libminiupnp from v10 to v8 and it should work and allow you to update on a Jessie/Raspbian based armhf Odroid.

<jamezz>
thats the fun part of learning
<jamezz>
im fuxing up and fixing 4 servers right now in PJ's smoking bowls... i think i need shower
<caraka>
jamezz - often you have to install the i386 packages on your x64 linux box for boinc to get work
<jamezz>
lol
<jamezz>
what?
<jamezz>
thats a mac pro tower running debian
<jamezz>
ppc64
<caraka>
most boinc projects only support i386 workers
<Quez>
caraka, thanks, I am probably not the best tester on linux :D
<jamezz>
power pc 64
<jamezz>
G5
<jamezz>
boinc runs fine
<jamezz>
its no projects support ppc64 linux
<caraka>
on my nix boxes, I have to install i386 support to crunch climateprediction and otehr boinc projects
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
then ask the BOINC project admins to support your hardware ?
<jamezz>
its not intel or amd caraka
<jamezz>
its a mac
<jamezz>
not intel mac
<jamezz>
ppc64
<jamezz>
power pc 64 mac
<caraka>
it's the 32 bit support that is my point
<jamezz>
there is no i386 support
<jamezz>
i have sun sparc support
<jamezz>
and all sorta risc
<jamezz>
lol
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
jamezz: see my last line, we can't do anything about that
<jamezz>
omg i wasnt asking anyone to do anything about it
<jamezz>
i said it would be nice
<caraka>
but you are correct. many projects won;t have a powerpc worker
<caraka>
it would be nice
<jamezz>
yeppers , im sure no sun support either
<jamezz>
so no point
<jamezz>
or id do that too
<jamezz>
lucky android runs on all these micro arch
<jamezz>
like your setup there caraka
<caraka>
google, there is a page somewhere that lists every boinc project and the hardware the workers support
<jamezz>
ya been there weeks ago
<jamezz>
0
<caraka>
Ctrl>F sun
<jamezz>
there really is just not enough userbase
<caraka>
true dat
<jamezz>
and dev takes time
<jamezz>
porting takes time
<vega30000>
we see a small rain from slimball today ?

bye Katbot
<Gunde>
Now notice the wallet that creat the superblock use diffrent type of version one have a lot old version then the others. So i assume there several supernodes that could make these superblocks right.
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
I thought it was based on consensus, or ?
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
and since older wallets gets punished by newer wallets, chances for older wallets get less over time
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
or ?
<Gunde>
they run until it hit important update, wallet send request sometimes.
<Gunde>
last updates was leisure upgrade but but 3.5.7.0 was auto to my wallet
<Gunde>
older could stake but do not know how old you can use if you got revoked.
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
well, if the older wallets are majority, I am not sure if teh newer ones really ever could dominate
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
I mean the older wallets could just deactivate or refuse updating
<Gunde>
But in change of version for superblock it should use latest and not use old version?
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
and for blockchain stuff, I'd expect a majority rule, tbh
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
Gunde another thought why the not-majority new wallets should make the superblock alone: what if I just invent a new version by increasing the version number ?
<Gunde>
how could they invent a new version then latest. This is not a regular livenode that creat superblocks.
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
well, I don't know what is the magic to create a superblock, only that there is some consensus
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
and version number you can change in the source, easily
<Gunde>
Supeblock is separated from regular blocks and do not use same as wee stake.
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
but the superblock is also saved in the blockchain, right ?
<Gunde>
yea
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
so, we have then what ? 2 chains ?
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
1 for normal blocks nd 1 for sbs
<Erkan_Yilmaz>
nd <- and
<Gunde>
it´s same but those are stats to NN only
<Gunde>
as i can see they count in in blockchain but get out from Block Explorer.
chatcat has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<Gunde>
Hmm looks like some do creat some superblock
Yoduza has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
<Gunde>
Might then creat snapshot to NN
d_o_c has joined #gridcoin
<Gunde>
Some superblock look to be created even with cpid not in NN and only got POS
<Gunde>
So then any windows wallet could do a snapshot of data to NN
<Gunde>
only need to stake a block
