cheaper than it was worth but I'm on an island where maritime shipping law and shipping fees in general are a bitch, so... still worth the sale as I scavenged it from the local e-waste place unscathed
<Dashaiva>
My quick chargers came in and i found my old eee pc. so now 4 more cores online

Though i'm doubtful about the eee pc, yoyo WU are rated at 66hrs each, good lord

<RoyalPhay>
shit
<RoyalPhay>
we've got competition......
<RoyalPhay>
Electrical metallic tubing (EMT), sometimes called thin-wall, is commonly used instead of galvanized rigid conduit (GRC), as it is less costly and lighter than GRC.
<Dashaiva>
Nvidia freaked out about the battery recall and disabled qualcomm quick charge
<RoyalPhay>
fuck. I'm bailing
<ltkeklulz>
That sucks
<RoyalPhay>
switching to EMT
<ltkeklulz>
Have fun with dying people
<RoyalPhay>

<fkinglag>

<RoyalPhay>

<RoyalPhay>
Dashaiva, what is that material used to stop wireless interference? vague.. ik, but I know they're in routers
<RoyalPhay>
just wondering if I should get some for a couple of my projects
<[-SaRaFiNa-]>
Linked by Dashaiva - Electromagnetic shielding - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
<RoyalPhay>
so... does that create "dead zones" or...
<RoyalPhay>
like say I have a metal bar in front of my wireless router. Okay?
<Dashaiva>
Well, yes
<Dashaiva>
They put it on the materials inside that they don't want interference with
<RoyalPhay>
if I was to cover it with EM shielding...
<Dashaiva>
Then low range wifi
<RoyalPhay>
does that remove the interference?
<RoyalPhay>
like.. how do I help lower interference that metal in my room may cause
<Dashaiva>
It acts as a barrier between
<Dashaiva>
The only way is to move the source, or remove the metal
<RoyalPhay>
hmm. for some reason I thought there was some coating that could help
<RoyalPhay>
sorta like how microwave shielding works
<Dashaiva>
Yep
<ltkeklulz>
That's exactly how it works
<RoyalPhay>
but that's exactly what we're discussing :C
<Dashaiva>
It blocks in both directions
<ltkeklulz>
It just blocks EM waves from passing through
<RoyalPhay>
like... does metal...
<Dashaiva>
Maybe explain what the problem is
<RoyalPhay>
hmm. wondering how to ask this. it would be.. Ok. i will explain
<ltkeklulz>
You can put it on components inside the router to keep them from causing noise in the wifi signal
<RoyalPhay>
so I am planing to swap out parts of my desk's frame which are currently aluminum to conduit preferably
<fkinglag>
RIP RoyalPhay
<ltkeklulz>
You want to know how to reduce dead zones in your room from a big piece of metal in front of the router, right?
<RoyalPhay>
because that will be able to take more weight. also the Al poles in my desk now (which is literally the skeleton of the desk) aren't the best....
<RoyalPhay>
ehh. more rather, I may have router very close to my desk, and I'm wondering how I can help the router be able to if need be pass through the desk
<RoyalPhay>
poorly phrased
<RoyalPhay>
sorry
<Dashaiva>
Why not just hardwire?
<RoyalPhay>
I will be!
<RoyalPhay>
just some parts can't
<RoyalPhay>
multiple phones, and a couple of other things
<ltkeklulz>
The signal will bounce around the room
<RoyalPhay>
yeah. It is not as if I need crazy range at all
<ltkeklulz>
Some spots will be weaker than others, but depending on the size of the room, you should be fine
<RoyalPhay>
we're talking like 15m max
<Dashaiva>
Get a cheap second router
<RoyalPhay>
prob 10
<ltkeklulz>
You're good
<Dashaiva>
hardwire it, run it under the desk
<RoyalPhay>
so it's a VERY short range needed at this point in time
<RoyalPhay>
I actually will be doing that Dashaiva
<Dashaiva>
change the frequency and lower the router power output
<RoyalPhay>
it's just something I'm wondering about such
<RoyalPhay>
Basically the question comes down to: Would switching to a metal conduit increase wireless interference
<ltkeklulz>
Try to avoid 2.4GHz if you can. Everything runs on that so there is more interference
<Dashaiva>
Not at that short a range
<Dashaiva>
And especially not if run on 5.8ghz
<ltkeklulz>
Not that it'll make a big difference in such a small space
<RoyalPhay>
yeah. just factoring it all and trying to learn primarily
<Dashaiva>
My 5.8AC goes 50 feed through my house into the back yard and still works
<Dashaiva>
feet
<RoyalPhay>
I don't wanna make some block of lead :V
MrControll has quit [Remote host closed the connection]

Or, get the phones off the floor and above the desk
<ltkeklulz>
Why would you use lead?
<Dashaiva>
ltkeklulz he wants to be poisoned

Plus, it absorbs more EM radiation. It would increase interference

<customminer>
Curly-brace checked the ddm server status page?
<curly-brace>
dunno
<curly-brace>
what should i see there?
<brewsmithy>
curly-brace I have in the past, but had to increase the number of CPUs in my boinc before I could get work, also they take a long time so you have to have a fairly big #of days set in your options for them to download
<brewsmithy>
Act as if there were N CPUs; e.g. to simulate 2 CPUs on a machine that has only 1. To use the number of available CPUs, set the value to -1 (was 0 which in newer clients really means zero).
<curly-brace>
brewsmithy, my boinc manager says that the request is pending. and 'update' button does nothing. it just seems that server is down, but according to stats, it is up
<brewsmithy>
If 1, each job will be reported to the project server as soon as it's finished, with an inbuild 60 second delay from completion of result upload. (normally it's deferred for up to a day, so that several jobs can be reported in one request). Using this option increases the load on project servers, and should generally be avoided. This is intended to
<brewsmithy>
be used only on computers whose disks are reformatted daily.
<curly-brace>
i've even restarted the client now

Well, I´m 5k GRC away to make a poll haha
<moisesm123>
I wanted to make one regarding whitelisting Goofyxgrid@home. It may be a silly project but it aims to test the infinite monkey theorem, just like collatz is testing the collatz conjecture. After all it is working toward a theorem

a poll to whitelist GoofyxGrid@Home. That´s all

does it simulate monkeys typing? :P
<NeuralMiner>
lol, caraka it actually does.
<caraka>
I thought it might!
<NeuralMiner>
an infinite amount of monkeys typing for an infinite amount of time will end up typing shakespeare at some point.
<caraka>
are we looking for a bible or merely a Shakespeare sonnet?
<moisesm123>
Right now the v1 app is working toward randomly typing and compare it with a dictionary. V2 app is just fixed, right now trying to find the word ¨christmas¨. It has been like that since, well, christmas season :p
<NeuralMiner>
looks like v3 is doing shakespeare.
<moisesm123>
yup, it is currently in development along with the android app. The project owner is very active
<moisesm123>
monkeys_v1 - draws word for examine if thats word existing in Polish or English dictiora for now (I wonder about using more dictionaries)
<moisesm123>
monkeys_v2 - draws word until it not exactly like in WU
<moisesm123>
monkeys_v3 - draws whole text and check if it not a fragment for example some Sheakspir works
<moisesm123>
the app descriptions
<moisesm123>
but v3 is still in development. Also the project runs on ARM devices
<moisesm123>
except android
<caraka>
this social primate with delusions of grandeur is going to work. I'll let you know if I type anything worthwhile

<Sander96>
1070 is super power efficient though, so not only better FPS/$ but also cheaper to have longterm
<moisesm123>
then I have these 2 laptops with Core 2 Duo which runs on 90W PSU

Yeah, but again

<Destined>
steams always running since the day i set it up months ago
<Chick3nman>
try killing off steam
<Destined>
just the last week it got out of sync and will like from scratch sycn up some then just stop
<Chick3nman>
how long have you left it stopped?
<Destined>
and on rebuild blocks it doesnt even do that either stops around 2k usually
<Destined>
Way longer than was needed to confirm it was infact stopped
<Chick3nman>
typically id say just leave it for a while and it will sort itself out
<Destined>
Yea tried that already
<Chick3nman>
huh
<Destined>
Its been a week of trying things including waiting
<Chick3nman>
have you tried removing all files, including you config file and starting fresh?
<Chick3nman>
the config file gets corrupt, of all things, during a hard shutdown
<Destined>
ill fight with it more later its just getting annoying by now as it just showed up out of nowhere over the period of time it was running active as I havent shutdown in 4+ weeks
<Destined>
So most logical things to fix it dont seem to be the problem so far
<Destined>
I am almost wondering if somehow im banned from the nodes as i get one then a few, then down to 0 every now and then
<Chick3nman>
huh
<Chick3nman>
might be
<Destined>
but isnt the ban normally 24h?
<Chick3nman>
what version?
<Chick3nman>
.
<Chick3nman>
it is unless you keep getting rebanned
<Chick3nman>
for bad chain info
<Chick3nman>
might be having an issue where your processor actually returning bad math
<Destined>
I was on 3.5.6.2 then upgraded to 3.5.6.4 after the problem
<Chick3nman>
like a hash missmatch
<Destined>
I already redownloaded the blockchain from the settings
<Chick3nman>
if you build bad chain data, the network will not accept you and the blocks will likely get stuck
<Destined>
so if that was the case i fixed that
<Chick3nman>
no i mean during rebuild
<Chick3nman>
when it does all the math over again
<Chick3nman>
if it does it wrong
<Chick3nman>
it wont rebuild
<Destined>
with the download you dont have to rebuild
<Destined>
as it comes fully ready to go
<Chick3nman>
well
<Chick3nman>
kinda
<Chick3nman>
the wallet goes over all the blocks doing confirmation math to make sure all the hashes check
<Chick3nman>
all that download does
<Chick3nman>
is grab the blocks all at once for confirming
<Chick3nman>
instead of one at a time as you get to them
<Destined>
the wallet will do that during a rescan, as when its been to that block point it has a cache of what it expects to see already and just makes sure thats what it sees
<Destined>
It doesnt actually rebuild the blockchain during that
<Destined>
it just scans thru it
<Chick3nman>
it does some of the math still
<Chick3nman>
it just doesnt grab from nodes
<Chick3nman>
and build from scratch
<Destined>
Yea maths that just collect its totals basically, the blockchain itself would remain the same
<Chick3nman>
its grabs a bunch of blocks and confirms they are all correct
<Destined>
as that math is seperate from the chain
* Peppernrino
writes IPs on a piece of paper\
<Chick3nman>
lol
<Chick3nman>
me_irl
<Destined>
But yes that math could be wrong still, but it wouldnt stop me from getting at least one block in the chain before the chain breaks
<Destined>
and i gotta go
<Peppernrino>
anybody in here able to help me with dns?
<Chick3nman>
dns as in
<Chick3nman>
internal DNS
<Chick3nman>
for internal domain support?
<Peppernrino>
sure
<Chick3nman>
well what kind of DNS
<Peppernrino>
dns as in, i got a pfsense box, vpn'd my whole house on one connection :), and then lost it by fucking with dns :(
<Chick3nman>
you arent hosting a DNS server
<Chick3nman>
lol
<Chick3nman>
oh
<Chick3nman>
your DNS settings
<Peppernrino>
i just need to know where to put the damn numbers.
<Chick3nman>
its not routing anywhere because it cant query a DNS server
<Peppernrino>
i've been having SO much trouble
<Chick3nman>
8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4
<Chick3nman>
those are google's DNS server iirc
<Chick3nman>
use them
<Peppernrino>
i have my vpn's IP and 127.0.0.1 as my current dns servers
<Chick3nman>
lol
<Peppernrino>
i know that's not right.
<Chick3nman>
what
<Chick3nman>
no
<Peppernrino>
exactly.
<Chick3nman>
set them both to 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4
<Chick3nman>
those 2 ip's
<Chick3nman>
all will be well
<Peppernrino>
it says those two AND 127.0.0.1 now...
<Chick3nman>
thats fine
<Chick3nman>
leave it
<Peppernrino>
it's for dns forwarder
<Peppernrino>
"Disable DNS Forwarder
<Peppernrino>
Do not use the DNS Forwarder as a DNS server for the firewall By default localhost (127.0.0.1) will be used as the first DNS server where the DNS Forwarder or DNS Resolver is enabled and set to listen on Localhost, so system can use the local DNS service to perform lookups. Checking this box omits localhost from the list of DNS servers. "
<Chick3nman>
lol
<Peppernrino>
yeah.
<Peppernrino>
i'm that good
<Peppernrino>
alright. step 2. how the fuck do i get it to see my vpn again...?
<Peppernrino>
ty chickenman. hard to get an answer out of the guys in any of the channels you're supposed to get an answer in
<Peppernrino>
they just start fighting over how leet their dns servers are or something
<Peppernrino>
idk
<Peppernrino>
!tip chick3nman 1

<Chick3nman>
lol
<Chick3nman>
see if your VPN provides DNS servers they want you to use
<Chick3nman>
if they do
<Chick3nman>
replace the 8.8.x.x servers with their servers that they tell you to use
<Peppernrino>
when i connect, it usually gives me a 10.x.x.x
<Peppernrino>
and then i connect to the vpn from that
<Peppernrino>
is that what you mean?
<Chick3nman>
no
<Peppernrino>
ok
<Chick3nman>
what VPN service?
<Peppernrino>
trilight
<Chick3nman>
or is it your own VPN on your connection
<Peppernrino>
it's a provider
<Peppernrino>
i already have all the keys done and everything
<Peppernrino>
i think it's a simple setup...
<Peppernrino>
because it worked UNTIL i fucked with stuff...
<Peppernrino>
lol
<Chick3nman>
lol
<Chick3nman>
go over setting it up again
<Chick3nman>
and see if it works
<Chick3nman>
it should
maokoto has joined #gridcoin
<Peppernrino>
ok
<Peppernrino>
i have no idea how to name subsequent IPs for my router either
<Peppernrino>
like if pfsense is 192.168.1.1, what should my router be?
<Peppernrino>
192.168.1.2, or 192.168.2.1?
<Peppernrino>
that other ip is a tunnel network... ok....
<customminer>
Peppernrino each port gets a different /24 ip range
<Peppernrino>
i have no idea what those are for
<Peppernrino>
:(
* Peppernrino
gives up and burns the house down
<customminer>
You'll have a Wan port connecting your pfsense box to your router, use the subnet that your router provides (static ip), then each Lan port will get a different /24 ip range 192.168.x.y /24 means y has 254 addresses under x
<DeviantOne>
normally you would have your router be the first address of the subnet
<DeviantOne>
eg. router = 192.168.1.1
<customminer>
You don't need to set your routers ip. 192.168.1.1 is pfsense's Lan connection
<DeviantOne>
correct
<customminer>
Yeah, if two network areas are using the same /24 address range that's bad mckay
<DeviantOne>
but whatever the router address, it will be the gateway address on the board
<customminer>
Wan will be static ip set in address range your router provides
<Peppernrino>
yeah. had to reset my router at one point...
<Chick3nman>
back
<Chick3nman>
whats up
<Chick3nman>
did you fix it
<Peppernrino>
WAN is showing as one of the IPs of the 2 ethernets i have plugged into it
<Peppernrino>
of course not. i'm stupid.
<Chick3nman>
lol
<Chick3nman>
whats wrong now
<DeviantOne>
the wan port of the router?
<DeviantOne>
is showing a 192.168?
<customminer>
Connect Wan to router, set static ip within address range provided/used by router. Use different ip range for each Lan port.
