hi, i'm from germany and relatively new to linux. I'm wondering why "dd if=/dev/sda1 of=/dev/null bs=1M count=10000" gives me about 100MB/s on my CT and copying(duplicating) a file on the drive just gives me a throughput of about 10 MB/s. I'm using ext4 on my drive.

dasdandre: /dev/null ist ja "ins Nirvana schreiben", also gar nicht schreiben, da ist also fast nur die Lesegeschwindigkeit beschränkend.

FR^2: oh.... :) ... das stimmt wohl. wie könnt ich denn die schreibgeschwindigkeit testen ohne gleichzeitig von der platte zu lesen.

von /dev/zero lesen und auf's Ziel schreiben - nicht unbedingt das block-device, wenn Du das Filesystem nicht zerstören möchtest ;)

Okay. 39.1MB/s mit "dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/hdd/test.da bs=1M count=1000". Frage mich dennoch warum das Kopieren einer Datei so langsam ist.

Kannst mal mit der blocksize spielen, da kommen auch recht unterschiedliche Ergebnisse raus

Ich versteh das alles nicht. Ich hab ne Zweite ssh Sitzung aufgemacht und gleichzeitig mit dd gelesen und geschrieben, Beim Lesen sind es dann ca 30 MB/s und beim Schreiben 24.5 MB/s.
