<Awys> hi guys i will build CM10.1 for Galaxy S but i have one problem how i can fix it can anyone tell me please ?
<Awys> device/samsung/galaxysmtd/overlay/frameworks/base/core/res/res/values/config.xml:33: error: Resource at config_deviceHardwareKeys appears in overlay but not in the base package; use <add-resource> to add.
<xtacocorex> i just comment that stuff out in the xml
<xtacocorex> don't know if that's the right thing to do, but it gets the error to go away
<Awys> okey thank you alot
<xtacocorex> i think in your case though, you might have to actually do what the add-resource error wants you to do
<xtacocorex> since the phone does have a hardware key (assuming this is true, my s3 has a button in the middle)
<Awys> yes it has
<Awys> won't the hw keys work then de

<portalgod> hmm i wonder if there is a way for android to identify itself as a particular usb mass storage device. for example, identify itself to windows a sandisk cruzer instead of the android generic mass storage device.
<turizm> yes
<portalgod> i'm googling it, but must not be putting in the correct search string
<portalgod> can ya point me to any docs?
<turizm> linux kernel docs
<turizm> usb section maybe
<portalgod> ahh ok. I thought maybe there'd be a userspace solution
<portalgod> ultimately, i'd like to plug it into my work laptop, but they only allow particular devices
<portalgod> so i was hoping to spoof a device type
<turizm> is your phone rooted?
<portalgod> yea
<joecool> goo.im pull the new gapps?

<joecool> Jiangyi: thanks :P
<turizm> portalgod, sorry I was absent. then u need an app with root priv. then it could be possible
<joecool> i specialize in sony phones, not so sure how samsung goes, is CM10 using fastdormancy because my data seems to drop into idle state quite a bit
<joecool> and i have to try loading pages a second time to come back up
<joecool> sometimes
<joecool> running nightly
<portalgod> turizm: cool
<turizm> its winter here
<portalgod> same here
<portalgod> :)
<portalgod> come to think of it, i've never used nandroid backups
<portalgod> i've never made one, nor restored
<portalgod> maybe i should since i just stuck cm10 on my captivate
<portalgod> running well
<turizm> is there any cm 10.1 for capt?
<portalgod> don't know. i installed cm-10.0.0
<portalgod> that's was the stable release from the 13th
<portalgod> i just ordered the galaxy note 2
<portalgod> should be arriving sometimes next week
<turizm> 2nd one from sgs-> note2
<turizm> sgs/capt
<portalgod> ya?
<bbqbot> derp
<turizm> no another one
<turizm> wifes got note1
<Jiangyi> joecool: I believe fastdormancy is in a service menu somewhere, but don't quote me on that.
<turizm> very happy with it
<portalgod> i was going to go to s3, but i'm on the road so much, if i can eliminate the need to carry phone + laptop or tablet, i'll be happy
<portalgod> i figured, for $250, it's worth trying out a "phablet"
<portalgod> turizm: i expect the note1 to drop a lil in price soon
<Jiangyi> I'd advise to get away from Exynos4 devices, and so would a lot of us here.
<turizm> if you don't like the touchjizz, get paranoid for it
<turizm> me too
<turizm> Jiangyi, what would u recommend?
tweetergal has quit []
<portalgod> Jiangyi: why
<turizm> nexus 4 ?
<Jiangyi> Nexus 4, hands down.
<turizm> or gnex
<Jiangyi> portalgod: Exynos4 has basically no future in terms of AOSP support.
<turizm> slcd isnt so cool as amoled imho
<joecool> i'll probably replace the note with a xperia S
<Jiangyi> Will never get stable CM :-P
<portalgod> Jiangyi: damn
<joecool> Jiangyi: are you kidding me? it's fully supported and is in AOSP
<bbqbot> derp
<Jiangyi> Blame samsung and their crap support.
<portalgod> yea
<joecool> been with sony because samsung has been so horrid with support
<joecool> just ended up with a note as a transitory phone because my Arc was EOL'd
<Jiangyi> joecool: Not talking about Xperia S, about Exynos4 devices lol
<turizm> so no more exynos devices right?
<turizm> which will be supported in the future?
<joecool> turizm: imo, i'd rather have a crappy TN LCD with bad viewing angles than a amoled with a fucking pentile layout
<joecool> looking at text on the note makes it feel like my eyes are broken
<joecool> fuzzy
<Jiangyi> Exynos5 will probably be fine since that's in AOSP, but unless Samsung does an 180 degree turn, Exynos4 has very little hope.
<EgotisticalElf> i dont' get what benefit companies have of holding back information on older systems
<turizm> they can't sell new ones
<joecool> ^
<turizm> capitalizm ftw!
<portalgod> damn
<turizm> who needs a quad core smartphone?
<portalgod> if i knew the note2 had no real future, i'd have tried somethign diff
<turizm> does it have exynos5?
<portalgod> exy4
<Jiangyi> Only the Nexus 10 has Exynos5 right now.
<turizm> anyone has a hands on experience with nexus4?
<turizm> worth waiting?
<joecool> *shrugs*
<portalgod> exynos 4412 in the AT&T US Note 2
<joecool> i'm picky with my phones so i can get away using the $10 unlimited data plan on at&t
* joecool is in the 15GB average range for b/w
<Jiangyi> xplod seems to like his a lot.
<Jiangyi> I want one, especially since now that I know that it can do Canadian LTE too. :-P
<Jiangyi> Even though I don't have a data plan right now lol
<joecool> Jiangyi: you have any experience with speakout prepaid up there?
* xtacocorex wonders if someone is going to figure out the missing parts on the nexus 4 from the optimus g
<joecool> i'm not going up and signing up for a 3 year slavery chain
<Jiangyi> joecool: I have 2 SIMs on it right now lol
<joecool> i've been using rogers for data, i trunk my calls through sip when up there
<joecool> it's $5 per 60mb or so
<Jiangyi> 365 day expirations is pretty damn awesome :-P
<joecool> yeah iknorite, that was a big draw
<joecool> i'm up there about monthly
<joecool> so sometimes my rogers balance expires, sometimes not
<joecool> pretty sure canada is the most backward country in the world for cell and internet
<Jiangyi> There's a trick floating around the internet about getting the $7 unlimited browsing addon and then using Proxydroid to get Youtube and such working.
Kaik541 has joined #teamhacksung-support
<joecool> i complained about the US for awhile for localized monopolies, but canada has national duopolies
<joecool> Jiangyi: sounds like the days when i was on t-mob's $2.99 t-zones plan and proxying all my traffic through port 80
<joecool> i'd probably just use sshtunnel
<Jiangyi> joecool: Same trick basically.
<Jiangyi> Haven't tried it myself, maybe one day. :-P
<joecool> Jiangyi: oddly enough, rogers would sometimes let through data when i hadn't paid for a pass
<Jiangyi> ._.
<joecool> really spotty, but i could browse and stuff for up to 10 minutes at a time
<joecool> so the system is vulnerable, i just haven't figured out what the bug is
<Jiangyi> Quite odd.
<joecool> i might try to get crazy with iodine and DNS tunnel my traffic
<joecool> :D
<joecool> oh the comment about exynos, i saw the video driver merged into mainline 3.6
<joecool> is that the same chipset as used in the phones?
<bbqbot> derp
<joecool> or some sort of ARM-based netbook
<Jiangyi> I'm not a dev, so can't say things on that :-P
<joecool> my sister has the xperia u, i wonder how future support will be on the ST-Ericsson NovaThor platform :P
<joecool> HOLY SHIT IT HAS CALLER ID FOR FREE
<Jiangyi> lol
<joecool> (a rare thing in canada)
<Jiangyi> That's pretty standard for prepaid phones up here. :-P
<joecool> i was like "wat" when my gf told me that
<joecool> "we've had callerid standard since like... 1995 on cellphones"
<joecool> ironically though, they don't charge their users to txt the US, but the US carriers charge to text canada
<Jiangyi> Wait, we don't? ._.
<Jiangyi> WHAT :-S
* Jiangyi pays 10 cents for every text
<Jiangyi> More for US texts I believe.
<Jiangyi> I think it's that way.
<Jiangyi> joecool: You just made me doubt myself about my own rates. lol
<Jiangyi> daflip
<Jiangyi> Speakout got rid of all their Nokia phones ._.
<joecool> Jiangyi: from bell my gf does not pay to text the US
<joecool> she didn't on telus either
<Jiangyi> Hrm.
<joecool> i did on both t-mob and at&t (i use google voice to get around it)
<Jiangyi> Did she have a texting plan or?

<Jiangyi> Anyone who understands the different network data speed standards well?
<Jiangyi> Google's turning up different answers as to how fast UMTS and HSDPA are supposed to be. :-S
<joecool> Jiangyi: yeah i have a fairly good understanding of it
<joecool> HSDPA usually operates at 3.6/7.2/14.4 max (higher is HSPA+)
slainer68 has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<joecool> HSUPA can be enabled or not alone with HSDPA, provides up to 5.76mbit/s up
<joecool> (i had old phone that could only do 2mbit/s up on HSUPA)
<Jiangyi> joecool: There seems to be mixed info about UMTS, some are saying that its max is 384kbps, others are saying 7.2Mbps, and a few say 2Mbps.
<joecool> Jiangyi: well UMTS as a standard encompasses HSPA, it's the same radio interface
<joecool> but the max without HSPA, basic 3G is 384kbps (release 99)
<Jiangyi> Ah OK.
<Jiangyi> I'm asking because there's an HSPA setting on my device, with UMTS only, HSDPA only, and HSUPA+ HSDPA.
<Jiangyi> Some guy on the forum was asking about how he set it to UMTS only, yet he's getting 2.7Mbps from a speedtest. :-P

<joecool> Jiangyi: i dunno tbh, been using the note for 2 days, don't even know if you guys have multiple basebands i can flash
<Jiangyi> lol
<joecool> for sony we had to flash them via flashtool
<joecool> in flashmode
<Jiangyi> We use CWM-flashable zips or through ODIN.
<Jiangyi> International note or North American one?
<bbqbot> derp
<joecool> N7000, international
<joecool> Jiangyi: oh so it can be flashed through CWM, (we had to fastboot kernels on, and flashtool basebands, the rest could be CWM on that line)
<joecool> i knew the kernel for samsung could be flashed with CWM
<Jiangyi> You can basically take a CWM-flashable modem package, take the modem.bin that you want, swap it in, and flash away.
<Jiangyi> Really simple on Samsung devices tbh.

<peterperfect> first
<codeworkx> iKillCypher: touchwiz is not just a launcher
<peterperfect> flash samsung firmware
<codeworkx> iKillCypher: they've modified the whole android framework
<peterperfect> if the bug happens on samsung firmware, you can go and complain to samsung
<iKillCypher> peterperfect it does
<iKillCypher> postive
<peterperfect> so complain with samsung
<iKillCypher> I tested like 2 days straight
<peterperfect> but you dont say you use aosp
<peterperfect> talk as a TW user
<peterperfect> but anyway
<iKillCypher> this bug also falls on CM
<iKillCypher> so it is like the same issue here
<peterperfect> dude, listen more pl0x
<iKillCypher> only in cm it lower the volume
<iKillCypher> in samsung rom it stops
<peterperfect> meh..why u fail to listen?
<iKillCypher> and plays by external speaker even when headphone is still intact
<iKillCypher> ok sorry continue mate
<peterperfect> as i was saying, if there is a bug in samsung software you can go and complain with them
<peterperfect> but even if they submit a fix
<peterperfect> in 2015
<peterperfect> its not assured that it gonna help aosp to behave as it should
<peterperfect> got it?
<peterperfect> are totally different things
<iKillCypher> alright nvm I will just ask samsung to fix it
<iKillCypher> see what they sya
<iKillCypher> anyway i9300 uses a different sound chip right
<iKillCypher> how is it there?
<peterperfect> yep, and differente hal
<peterperfect> its fine...volume goes low than backs up
<iKillCypher> sgs2 does that too but not to default volume
<peterperfect> yep
<iKillCypher> no idea about that might be cause by the getVolume and setVolume
<iKillCypher> not correctly reading
<peterperfect> iKillCypher you may have some hope if entropy have time and motivation to finish things with paulk
<iKillCypher> any idea why the volume is not getting set back to the correct volume ?
<peterperfect> nop, but im quite sure if it was a simple question of poking some code it would already be fixed
<codeworkx> iKillCypher: also a samsung problem
bealtine has quit [Ping timeout: 252 seconds]
<codeworkx> iKillCypher: samsung hal = incompatible to aosp
<iKillCypher> isnt it open source or anything like they promised ?
<iKillCypher> and by samsung hal you meant yahama chip right ?
<iKillCypher> or it affects the sgs3 and note 2 chip too
<peterperfect> no
<peterperfect> framework > hal > hardware
<peterperfect> hal is an abstraction layer that make userspace (framework) talk to the hardware
<iKillCypher> so it is samsung coding
<peterperfect> we use samsung closed source hal
<peterperfect> and aosp framework
<iKillCypher> I thought they said it will be open source
<peterperfect> samsung closed source hal doesnt understand well what aosp framework says
<peterperfect> in simple words, is thi
<peterperfect> this
<peterperfect> iKillCypher theres nothing new on opensource side with samsung
Awys has left #teamhacksung-support [#teamhacksung-support]
<peterperfect> as i told you, your good shot is paulk manage to finish his job
<iKillCypher> let wait for his responce
<iKillCypher> responds*
<peterperfect> iKillCypher let me tell you a tale
<peterperfect> samsung sells i9300 as bluetooth 4.0 ready
<peterperfect> as you can see here:
<peterperfect> it comes out that samsung messed with its implementation
<peterperfect> so bluetooth 4.0 doesnt work
<peterperfect> im talking about stock rom
<peterperfect> samsung recognized they messed the things since june
<peterperfect> as you can see here:
<iKillCypher> so samsung messed up the hal and everything else
<iKillCypher> and dont care ?
<peterperfect> they know a SERIOUS bug about a thing that is stamped in their box
<peterperfect> on their main device
<peterperfect> 5 months and various releases after
<peterperfect> no fix
<peterperfect> so honestly, if i was you dont bother talking to samsung
<peterperfect> wait for paulk
<peterperfect> its the best shot
<peterperfect> samsung is a pile of shit
<peterperfect> i will never have a samsung device again unless its a nexus
cdesai has joined #teamhacksung-support

<codeworkx> iKillCypher: most manufacturers mess up the HALs. But they don't care because it works on their ROMs because their framework is also messed up
<iKillCypher> I thought of getting nexus 4
<iKillCypher> but they dont ship here
<iKillCypher> cause trust me I would love cm 10.1 on necus 4
<iKillCypher> nexus*
<iKillCypher> and does the galaxy nexus has this issue ?
Wechner has joined #teamhacksung-support
<addi> I'd say Google's framework and HAL are the least messed up :P
<cdesai> addi: they made it, so you can expect them to keep it clean
<cdesai> plus, they open most of it
<cdesai> btw, Xperia T ke india me news hain? don't think it has launched <- addi
<addi> when are the Gingerbread PNGs going away? themers seem to cry about that all the time xD
<addi> nope, hasn't launched
<peterperfect> as ive been talking here and there...if you are not a sdcard freak and is planning to waste USD300 + on a device, i see no enough argument to not buy nexus
<cdesai> peterperfect: that hasn't launched here too :P
<cdesai> no gnex, no nexus 4
<addi> N4 delayed to Jan -.-
<addi> pretty sure they will later say it is not coming here
<cdesai> nexus 7 - 170USD more than US - f off asus.
<cdesai> addi: yea, and if coming, 300$ ka 30000R
<peterperfect> cdesai galaxy nexus is probably avaiable on side market
<addi> yes it is
<cdesai> it is, but i no like gray
<addi> I bought one that way :P
<cdesai> i wantz white
<peterperfect> doode..serious
<peterperfect> color?!
<addi> but with all that glass on Nexus 4, not willing to buy without a warranty :P
<peterperfect> you dont give up a phone cause of color
<cdesai> peterperfect: Not color
<peterperfect> girly stuff
<cdesai> black, grey, white market
<cdesai> white means official
<cdesai> grey = import mostly
<peterperfect> addi they wouldnt change it if you crack your glass
<peterperfect> cracking glass is bad use
<peterperfect> ah ok
<addi> ah, right >.<
<cdesai> (ab)use
<addi> but yeah, Nexus 4 sounds like a bad deal
<peterperfect> bad deal?
<peterperfect> serious, people are crazy this days
<addi> bad deal as in too costly here
<peterperfect> as i told, if one is ALREADY willing to waste money
<addi> for the $350 price, me no mind the crackable glass
<peterperfect> on a device
<cdesai> too much with risk
<addi> of course, it is only Nexus for me here on out
<addi> but GNex working fine, except for its lack of RAM that causes multitasking issues
<peterperfect> lack of ram?
<addi> well, the 1GB is not enough, apps get killed too often
<addi> Android's multitasking sucks
<peterperfect> i dont want to leave in this world anymore
<peterperfect> HAHAHAHA
<peterperfect> serious dude..stop talking bullshit
<cdesai> live* :p
bigbrovar has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<cdesai> even 512 doesn't have problems here
<cdesai> unless i start playing nfs and try to come out
<addi> peterperfect, minimize a game, open a browser and a couple of apps, and you see either the game or browser killed
<addi> that way it sucks
<peterperfect> android multitasking sucks is the most noob senseless sentence i ever heard
<addi> and the stupid developers who can't code their apps to resume properly
<cdesai> go on guys
<addi> peterperfect, multitasking itself doesn't suck, but the frequent app killing and the high RAM usage of app make it a nuisance for me on the GNex
<addi> apps*
<peterperfect> its not a gnex problem for sure
<peterperfect> on windoze if you open a gazillion apps you will lack ram
<addi> well, yes, not exactly the GNex's problem
<peterperfect> on android it will claim memory back
<peterperfect> based on your user behavior
<addi> and that reclaiming causes problems when a game reloads or browser reloads a web page
<peterperfect> if you open a gazillion things there will never be enough memory
<addi> I don't open gazillion things ;)
<peterperfect> android tends to kill things that are not being used no more
<addi> yeah, and it's quite aggresive at that imo, which sucks
<peterperfect> i have zero problems with android killing stuff here
<addi> well, your multitasking needs must be different then
<peterperfect> dude, you want to minimize a game and retake it 2 hours later?
<addi> no, retake it 5 minutes later
<peterperfect> so you are opening lots of things same time
<addi> not really, 4-5, including the browser is not a lot of things

<ryann_> herro
<frankdrey> Hi
<ryann_> are there other freenode channels pertaining to the samsung galaxy tab 2 (10.1)?
<ryann_> I just received mine, rooted, flashed CM10 (never even saw stock ROM)
<frankdrey> This channel
<ryann_> but, right off the bat, my Home button doesn't return me to the home screen
<frankdrey> And hi, I have the same one
<frankdrey> Hmm
<ryann_> I flashed cm-10-20121106-NIGHTLY-p5113.zip
<frankdrey> Well...
<ryann_> I'll try another build, I know they're nightlies and shit goes wrong
<frankdrey> We use 5110 builds
<frankdrey> Now
<frankdrey> Flash get.cm/?device=5110
<ryann_> oh, didn't even notice how old that was
<ryann_> so, wifi only is 5110 builds
<ryann_> cool
<frankdrey> Yep, 5113 and 5110 were merged
<ryann_> ok, let me get up to speed and checkt that one out :)
<frankdrey> We also have cm10.1 (4.2) experimental builds
<frankdrey> Work fairly nicely
<frankdrey> Multi-user :)
<frankdrey> Hmmm
<frankdrey> Actually, cody fixed everything today :D
<frankdrey> Youtube works now :D
<frankdrey> Try it out ryann_ :D
<frankdrey> Its on xda, in the gtab 10.1 dev section
<ryann_> oh, damn
<ryann_> halfway through flashing the latest cm10 nightly
<ryann_> i also some some 10.1v2 stuff?
<frankdrey> Hm?
<ryann_> maybe I didn't
<ryann_> i'll download that 20121129 build as well
<frankdrey> You have anything you need on internal storage?
<ryann_> I'm using an old 16GB sd card so yea, for now
<ryann_> it has some crap on it
<frankdrey> Cm10.1 will move it around, and going back to cm10 will require you to either move it around or format
<ryann_> I'll have to check it out
<ryann_> why?
<frankdrey> Internal storage
<ryann_> oh
<frankdrey> Not sdcard
<ryann_> ..oh
<ryann_> internal, nah
<ryann_> just got this thing, first thing i did was root format and flash
<frankdrey> Alright, if you don't like cm10.1, format internal storage after flashing cm10
<frankdrey> But I think you'll like it ;)
<ryann_> Oh, by the way, from CWM recovery, I could format data via "factory reset", but I didn't see a /data partition?
<ryann_> is it mounted as something different?
<bbqbot> derp
<jomp16> frankdrey: P3110 don't have CM 10.1?
<frankdrey> jomp16, check xda
<frankdrey> ryann_, its split up weirdly :P
<frankdrey> shared with internal storage
<frankdrey> You can format everything separately in mounts and storage
<ryann_> I'll stick with this 10.1 as you've suggested
<ryann_> I only need a few apps to work for business anyway
<ryann_> exchange email, thumb keyboard, pocket cloud and nesoid (for toilet breaks) :)
<frankdrey> :p

<codeworkx> LOLBEANS: nightlies are working
<g_byers> The setup wizard in cm 10.1 but its not your rom I'm just telling everyone else
<Jiangyi> Also, no leaks yet, just useless screenshots :-|
<LOLBEANS> is there a list of what's broken with that build
lodder has joined #teamhacksung-support
<Jiangyi> g_byers: That's more of a GApps thing.
<LOLBEANS> just got a note 2 and being dependent on CM I can't stand the stock rom lol
<g_byers> yeah that was the 2 errors g apps have crashed and setup wizard : |
<codeworkx> g_byers: wrong gapps
<codeworkx> LOLBEANS: most stuff works.
<g_byers> its built into the rom thats the problemo
<LOLBEANS> what is broken
<g_byers> anyway i'll wait till good ol codeworkx comes out with a good 10.1 nightly :P
<Jiangyi> Well, the guy is a CM maintainer, so it's fine. :-|
<g_byers> not if you can't get past the welcome screen
<Jiangyi> Like I said, that's GApps, not the ROM.
<codeworkx> g_byers: noobnl is a cm maintainer
<codeworkx> g_byers: and he's owning a p31xx. i'm only owning p5100
<codeworkx> g_byers: flash correct gapps and it works
<LOLBEANS> is the latest gapps 11 28 2012?
<Jiangyi> That's for 4.2, not 4.1.
<Jiangyi> Just caught my eye :-P
<g_byers> ok so its not logging stuff I type or anything like that then ;)
<g_byers> where would I look for this gapps within the zip
jomp16 has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]
<Jiangyi> codeworkx: Implementable for 9100G? :-P
<Jiangyi> g_byers: The whole zip is GApps.... ._.
<g_byers> maybe you don't understand that gapps is bundled with that rom .__.
<Jiangyi> daflip?
<g_byers> so it should over right it if I flash the rom then gaps ?
<Jiangyi> It really really shouldn't have, since that's treading in illegal waters.
sbrissen is now known as sbrissen_gone
<codeworkx> Jiangyi: applies to all devices
<Jiangyi> codeworkx: I know, but I'm reading things about making it an option in the advanced settings.
<Jiangyi> g_byers: Don't see any GApps in that zip.
<codeworkx> Jiangyi: ICS ^
<codeworkx> Jiangyi: the vold switch got killed with JB
<codeworkx> Jiangyi: it's evil
<Jiangyi> daflip ._.
<Jiangyi> Saw this in one of the comments on a patch for the JB branch.
<codeworkx> Jiangyi: we're trying to teach you how to not need a external card

<Jiangyi> codeworkx: Well, I mean signal and phone call-wise.
<Jiangyi> codeworkx: I don't have data remember? lol
<g_byers> you still use a phone to call O.O
<Jiangyi> Also, no one in the Chinese forums are complaining about mobile internet issues, so....
<codeworkx> Jiangyi: lul

<sventar> hello
<sventar> i'm trying to to find the state of galaxy s3 i9300 CM development
<sventar> i'm browsing through a thread on xda developers, only its ~1500 pages long
<sventar> is there a working CM 10.1 for s3?
<codeworkx> sventar: no
<sventar> ok. i saw a few videos on youtube but i think they were for the US model. is that the case?
<codeworkx> sventar: probably
<sventar> hi, actually I just added you to my RSS feed an hour or two ago :)
<codeworkx> bad idea
<sventar> heh. I rooted my phone yesterday (cf root/heimdall) and got all ready to put CM on (very happy with cm9 on desire and blade)
<sventar> are any of the nightly CM10's stable enough?
[SkG] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<sventar> i want to try cm10 because when i cut and paste using chrome i get to reboot my phone
<sventar> which is not optimal

<sventar> have samsung pissed off the developers of cm so that it's unlikely there'll be a 10.1, or will it just take longer? I thought samsung used to be behind cm?
<bbqbot> derp
<frankdrey> samsung used to be behind cm?
<frankdrey> lies
<frankdrey> sventar, i've heard cm10 is fine on s3
<frankdrey> try it *shrug*
<Jiangyi> Expect discount, vegetable butter :-P
<Jiangyi> sventar: That was a publicity stunt :-P
<sventar> ok
<sventar> i've read there's no support on cm10 for triple buffering, the radio doesn't work etc
<sventar> so touchwiz on stock will look better/be faster than cm then?
<codeworkx> sventar: afaik stock rom doesn't have triple buffering too
<sventar> really? thought that was the whole point of jb - project butter, smooth display etc.
<codeworkx> sventar: think samsung missunderstood something ;-)
<sventar> ok, so CM10 should be no worse than stock in that respect?
<codeworkx> sventar: right

<sventar> once there is a working version of android for a given phone and a new version of android comes out, how much work is it per phone to get the new version to work?
<bbqbot> derp
<sventar> i mean, the support for the various bits of hardware (wifi, gps, screen) are already done, right? isn't it mostly android software which changes?

<codeworkx> Jiangyi: think our ICS ril is becoming painfull
<Jiangyi> codeworkx: That's one more thing to the list. :-(
<Jiangyi> So now, we have cam, sensors, and RIL....... All the closed stuff.
<Jiangyi> Damn you Samsung T_T
<sventar> so what's the difference to a user between cm10 for i9300 and the US etc versions?
<Jiangyi> sventar: US versions have everything working basically.
<joecool> wow i knew shit was bad with samsung, had no idea it was that bad
<joecool> read the series of posts from the exynos maintainer, good thing i didn't buy my note from them
<joecool> (bought it secondhand)
<joecool> will continue to support sony as they are clearly the best supported android line outside of the nexus phones
<joecool> -_-

<sventar> is there a page out there on the web with the definitive statement on what is/isn't support on s3 under cm10?

<sventar> ok thanks will take a look now
<Jiangyi> I should probably start working on the pages with "lazy devs didn't put text here" :-P

<codeworkx> Jiangyi: we've no time to care about those shit
<codeworkx> Jiangyi: it's not important for us
<codeworkx> Jiangyi: only for users
<joecool> ^
<codeworkx> Jiangyi: and devs hate users
<Jiangyi> codeworkx: Hence why there's people like me to do it lol
<codeworkx> Jiangyi: aren't you having write perms?
<codeworkx> Jiangyi: DO UR FUCKING JOB, BSTRD
<Jiangyi> I do, but I'm also lazy xD
<codeworkx> lazy users are more bad than lazy devs
<Jiangyi> At least I keep the some of the pages relatively up-to-date :-P
<joecool> wish we could convince the samsung devs to go over to the sony team, sony team is great but the organization sucks and they use the worst mirrors on earth for their releases
<joecool> Jiangyi: it's already a step ahead of our community :P
<Jiangyi> joecool: Cody already jumped on the Sony wagon lol
<Jiangyi> codeworkx: I go create 10.1 section, OK?
<joecool> orly nice, imma work on getting a 2012 one now since the arc was eol'd
<sventar> perhaps i'm biased cos i have a samsung phone, but i think its kind of important to have some working version of CM for each phone so that everyone can use it and make it more popular so that it gets more support/love from manufacturers etc
<joecool> (for understandable reasons)
<joecool> sventar: fuck thinking like that, buy manufacturers that support the opensource community and fuck the others
<joecool> vote with your $$$
<codeworkx> Jiangyi: not needed. cm10.1 will be merged into jellybean branch. 10 is dead then
<Fissurez> http://i.imgur.com/ooJVq.jpg <- samsung!
frankdrey has joined #teamhacksung-support
<joecool> sventar: you can't make CM decent when all the sources are closed and the manufacturer is refusing to cooperate
<sventar> part of the reason i got an s3 was because my last phone was a htc desire and it was a little tedious to faff with unlocking, repartitioning the hboot stuff so there was enough space to install more than 4 apps, etc etc. s3 is like 1 command to root&install recovery
<Jiangyi> codeworkx: Good thing I haven't saved changes yet lol
<sventar> and yeah, guess i fell for the 'samsung supports devs' crap
<joecool> sventar: well yeah HTC is garbage too, they tell their devs and userbase to wait on the release of GPL code for months, then have the audacity to ask for help in LKML
<sventar> wish i'd got a nexus 4 now. perhaps i'll sell my s3.
<sventar> just didn't want the unreplaceable battery and lack of sd card
<sventar> not sure from that wiki if you can wifi tether. says you can't on the faq but nothing on the known issues page
<Jiangyi> sventar: Think it was fixed by reverting to ICS wifi drivers.
<frankdrey> Shit, I don't wanna do my homework ._.
<joecool> sventar: imo, if samsung was in the position where they were unable to sell phones, they would be a lot more helpful in the opensource community
<wifi> i must change my nick
<joecool> sventar: it happened with sony in the US market, they fucked up big on the X10, no carrier wanted them
<joecool> within a year they were offering pro support
<sventar> well, for better or worse samsung seems to be insanely popular at the mo. and nexus 4 might be cheap but i got a nexus 7 from google and google's customer service sucks
<sventar> only my 3rd nexus 7 actually worked, and i spent hours on the phone to fucking idiots trying to get it sorted
<sventar> on xda developers i've read people saying to install cm over ics. what's that about? don't i just download the latest cm10 nightly and install from it over a factory reset phone?
<bbqbot> derp
<frankdrey> So who wants to do my homework?
<codeworkx> So who wants to fix RIL?
<frankdrey> Sounds funner than this
<wifi> so who want to do my work ?
