<dan1> Just curious how this is going, I've got a rk3188 I'd like to ideally put Debian on without Android below it, planning to use this as a nice little server.

<Astralix> dan1, that is no problem at all. What you need to know is, that the bootloader first tries to start a kernel in boot.img or revocery.img, depending on a boot flag. If the partiton does not contain a kernel.img, he searches kernel.img. So if you erase boot and recovery images on the NAND, you can place your kernel there. Most distributions for rk load kernel from recovery or kernel partition, and modify the kernel command line to fe

<dw> Astralix: is there a distribution other than picuntu available?

<dan1> Mmm, thanks for the info Astralix! That seems somewhat similar to what OpenWRT does in some way, I guess my main question would then be if there is anything besides picuntu that is packaged that way yet.
<dan1> Or should I get to banging on Debian till it works on the rk3188?

<Astralix> Hi again, Dan68_: I cannot tell, what you should do. Depends what you like to do or be able to do. If you only need a command line ready server and wifi is not that important, you be fine with any ARM compliant distribution. The major problems around RK chips are VPU/GPU code and some WiFi chipsets (not all of them). So if you buy a box with RJ45 LAN connector and you only need gui for some configuation or even you use no gui at al
<Astralix> As long as you're able to get a kernel that enables you to use the needed periphery... Even an Android optimized kernel does not need to start android. You can just modify the command line in parameters section and rock up your SD based rootfs containing your own initrc.
<Astralix> Command line server rootfs should work even with buildroot or angstroem based images. So no gui at all.

<pm_> According to Rockchip presentation, RK3188 only has 512KB L2 cache. Can someone please update http://linux-rockchip.info/mw/index.php?title=Main_Page
<pm_> Although I hope linux-rockchip.info is right ;-)

<Dan68_> Interesting Astralix, all I'm looking for is a headless server so gpu drivers aren't very important to me
