<Caerus>
hello, could anyone take a look at this https://dpaste.org/2DaV#L and help me understand why is throwing an error. I am following the programming elixir >= 1.6 book and cant make that work on 1.10.3
<baweaver>
Caerus: #ruby != #elixir
<Caerus>
jesus
<baweaver>
Happy Monday :D
<Caerus>
I am terribly sorry. Happy monday and week start :)
<baweaver>
No worries.
<apotheon>
Caerus: How does precedence affect that? That'd be my first guess, as someone who doesn't even know Elixir.
<apotheon>
anyway
<apotheon>
good luck in #elixir
<Caerus>
My guess is the error is related to either a typo/syntax error on my part or to a change from 1.6 to 1.10.3. I'm checking out elixir so that's as far as I can go xD
<Caerus>
I remember something like this happened when I was learning ruby. the "beginning ruby" book I had was for a version way lower than what I had installed using rvm. It was a great learning experience to correct the outdated code to work on newer versions though.

<al2o3-cr>
i don't think i remember any of elixir tbh

@al2o3-cr, that's weird. I am trying it in iex too and I did see it working on REPL. gonna rewrite it, it's probably a typo somewhere. Thanks for the help.
<al2o3-cr>
Caerus: don't forget to require modules needed.

al2o3-cr, huh, I restarted iex and rewrote it and it worked. puzzling intensifies. Oh well, I'll keep reading now; thanks again. People in this channel being awesome as usual <3
<al2o3-cr>
Caerus: that's no problem, just not well updated with elixir to even reason that error :P
<al2o3-cr>
Caerus: what did they say in #elixir-lang?
<al2o3-cr>
or whatever channel it is.
<Caerus>
no reply :(
<al2o3-cr>
might be quiet time there.

I guess CommunistWolf must be one of the particularly radical forms of communist where *nothing* is owned by *anyone*, or where *all things are owned only collectively*.
<apotheon>
. . . as opposed to one of the less radical forms, where only *private*, but *non-personal*, property is not "owned" by any individual.
<apotheon>
. . . 'cause selling a laptop is definitely not a matter of *private, non-personal* property.
<apotheon>
It's typically a transfer of capital between workers.
<apotheon>
(for some definition of "worker")
<apotheon>
(and thus "personal" property)
<apotheon>
. . . or perhaps CommunistWolf just objects to "money", assuming that "sell" must involve money.

Does anyone want to buy a pointless expansion upon the ideas of collective, personal, and private property from me?
<al2o3-cr>
apotheon: ?
<apotheon>
I'd rather just talk about Ruby, though, so you'd probably have to pay me.
<al2o3-cr>
apotheon: why would anyone pay you?
<apotheon>
probably wouldn't
<apotheon>
it'd be silly to do so
<apotheon>
at least for that
<al2o3-cr>
exactly, shut up.
<apotheon>
Oh, you're an asshole. Got it.
<al2o3-cr>
apotheon: yeah, biggest one you'll ever know.
<apotheon>
You bait people into saying things so you can be a dick about it.
<al2o3-cr>
apotheon: not true, you chime up with bullshit!
<apotheon>
23:20 < al2o3-cr> CommunistWolf: ?
<al2o3-cr>
yes, and?
<apotheon>
implies confusion over what someone said, and perhaps wanting to know what the heck that was about
<apotheon>
23:33 < al2o3-cr> apotheon: ?
<apotheon>
implies confusion over what someone said, and perhaps wanting to know what the heck that was about
<apotheon>
bait
<al2o3-cr>
apotheon: with your speach
<apotheon>
23:36 < al2o3-cr> apotheon: why would anyone pay you?
<apotheon>
implies wanting an answer
<apotheon>
more bait
<al2o3-cr>
so you'd probably have to pay me.
<apotheon>
If you *really* wanted people to not talk, you wouldn't say things with question marks that might be mistaken for actual curiosity.
<al2o3-cr>
what's your point?
<apotheon>
23:38 < apotheon> You bait people into saying things so you can be a dick about it.
<apotheon>
my point
<apotheon>
learn to read
<apotheon>
don't lose track of the subject you yourself helped guide
<al2o3-cr>
i asked a question
<al2o3-cr>
you want to be dick about it
<apotheon>
I want you to stop being a dick.
<apotheon>
I'm generally pretty nice until someone's an asshole.
<apotheon>
or a dick
<al2o3-cr>
apotheon: please, fuck where you came from, please.
<apotheon>
especially a stupid dick who doesn't keep track of his own subject
<baweaver>
Alo
<baweaver>
I heard naughty words
<al2o3-cr>
baweaver: yeah, apotheon again.
<apotheon>
al2o3-cr: Is there any chance you'll stop responding in a harsh, baiting manner any time soon?
<al2o3-cr>
implies some shit...
* baweaver
looks for hat
<al2o3-cr>
apotheon: yeah, if you be nice.
<apotheon>
Rewind to when I was being nice, and respond accordingly.
<al2o3-cr>
apotheon: i'm not fucking tape.
<baweaver>

<baweaver>
So end it or I will
<apotheon>
probably true

<baweaver>
al2o3-cr: You're baiting and being abrasive
<al2o3-cr>
baweaver: baiting, how?
<baweaver>
apotheon: You're still being a prick whether or not it was instigated
<baweaver>
I have precious little patience today and would rather not play this game
<apotheon>
baweaver: agreed, a little
<baweaver>
If you would like time to meditate on that it can be arranged but I won't debate semantics with you
<al2o3-cr>
baweaver: so, i'm a prick now? thanks for that.
<apotheon>
I apologize for the "prick" part, but not for the "informative" part.
