thought of the day: among zombies, "anyone alive" is probably an insult
<wpwrak>
(yoda kbd) the hhkb is strong in that one :)
<wpwrak>
the three mouse buttons seem a bit large, though
<wpwrak>
you could get a HHKB Lite. that's only some USD 70. all of the HHKB are great and well worth the money, even if some of them seems very expensive.
<wpwrak>
(i have one of the original ones, with PS/2, a pro, and i had - and lost - a lite)
<DocScrutinizer05>
yoda kbd. UGH! USD229 for a crappy kbd with an annoying nipple that I usually immediately remove from all my thinkpads and "plug" it into the (otherwise useless) modem RJ11 receptacle
<wpwrak>
the nipple - the most intuitive user interface ever ;-)
rz2k has joined #qi-hardware
<eintopf>
the nipple is better than a touchpad
<eintopf>
correct word is trackpoint
<eintopf>
nipples... oh yea sometimes you need to know how you can deal with real nipples.
<eintopf>
:-P

I'd trade in a trackpoint for a trackball any time. And a touchpad is usually even more convenient than a trackball, when it's a good touchpad, not too small

sigh

I'm trying to switch to kicad
<whitequark>
immediately after creating a new project, it errors out
<whitequark>
when attempting to save said project, it just segfaults
<whitequark>
A+ engineering right here

whitequark: with kicad, you need to work a bit on the workflow. the way kicad proposes to do things often doesn't work too well
<wpwrak>
e.g., i have a makefile that invokes eeschema and pcbnew directly with the respective project
<wpwrak>
and then i don
<wpwrak>
't manage symbol and footprint libraries through the gui but by just adding them to the project file. much more convenient.
<wpwrak>
and of course i don't use the footprint editor at all but do them with fped
<wpwrak>
the editor for schematics symbols is okay, though. nothing extraordinary but sufficient.
<wpwrak>
there, i also add the pin type, so one can see what has been set there, without having to explore it interactively
<wpwrak>
the script for it is in the kicad-libs project (and you may want to use that project for components anyway)
<wpwrak>
DocScrutinizer05: i think trackballs are died of the y2k bug :) and i hate those fumblepads. what i prefer is a trackpoint as emergency solution while on the go and a small mouse for use when i have a table
<whitequark>
just don't use shitty touchpads. make sure it's a new-ish (like post 2011) synaptics
<whitequark>
maybe post 2009
<wpwrak>
but i know there are people who love fumblepads and the industry is pretty much forcing them down our collective throats anyway ...
<eintopf>
never heard "fumblepads"
<eintopf>
google will correct me to "rumblepad" and that's normally the gamepad extension for vibration. I think the original word cames from N64 and the "rumblepack"
<eintopf>
ah rumble - some vibration and pad for pad
<wpwrak>
nice ;-) and also the picture in the comments

<whitequark>
and by popular request I also support downloading plaintext archives for entire history using lftp -c 'mirror http://irclog.whitequark.org/$CHANNEL/index/'
<DocScrutinizer05>
well, that's about what you get from infobot . once a day :-/
<whitequark>
for backups and such
<DocScrutinizer05>
ftp is cool feature
<whitequark>
lftp
<DocScrutinizer05>
thanks a megaton
<whitequark>
different program
<whitequark>
it's not actually ftp, I don't know why it has ftp in the name
<whitequark>
it's like recursive wget
<DocScrutinizer05>
btw infobot also takes like 10 minutes to log in to its 120some channels
<DocScrutinizer05>
plus it sucks on netsplits, never notices that it got dropped on some channels, or even some personalities (ibot, apt)
<DocScrutinizer05>
(purl)
<whitequark>
oh, huh
<whitequark>
I'm using some Ruby library (cinch), it smoothes over so many IRC warts
<whitequark>
and is very stable too, it can run for months without really any intervention
<DocScrutinizer05>
ibot is plain perl iirc
<whitequark>
it's more about the libraries
<whitequark>
whatever Ruby library I used before sucked, the bot had to be restarted at least daily
<DocScrutinizer05>
that sucks
<DocScrutinizer05>
gotta run. please ping me when you're ready with tweaks
<wpwrak>
(downloading) for statistics ! :)
