<haesbaert> ah cool, I've just read the post on tech now
<haesbaert> might even convince my team to drop the isc dhcp in favor of charrua on our products
<hannes> \o/
<hannes> I now have an authoritative DNS server with nsupdate support! :)
<haesbaert> hooray, we have to use it in marrakech
<hannes> yes :)
<haesbaert> would be nice if we could stash the dhcp and dns in one image and make them update the ns records with the leases
<haesbaert> anil always wanted to do that but I nnever got around the old dns code
<hannes> i don't want to bundle these services.. there's a protocol to talk between them. separation of concerns!
<haesbaert> that's for fun,not for real usage :P
<haesbaert> wait, what protocol is that ?
<hannes> i have some principles ;p
<hannes> it's called nsupdate - RFC 2136 - and either via TLS + client certs or TSIG (2845)
<haesbaert> ah nice
<hannes> i'm still curious how to report metrics... but i guess snmp is really the way to go..
<haesbaert> do we have an snmp lib ?
<hannes> no
<hannes> alternatives include prometheus - which seem to require either protobufs or a web server (which I'm not to keen to have in every unikernel)
<haesbaert> hmm, well snmp kinda sucks
<hannes> haesbaert: is there a "better" way to do it? what do you guys use @work?
<haesbaert> snmp, that's why it sucks :D
<haesbaert> I mean, I'd rather have the fancy new stuff like prometheus usable
<hannes> i agree, but i'd like to have sth minimal in each vm. and structured data like snmp and mibs doesn't sound too bad imho
<hannes> +trap which is pretty neat... maybe a reliable transport, but not sure whether this is a good idea for e.g. traps..
<hannes> haesbaert: epic!
<haesbaert> muahahah \o/
<haesbaert> sunday goal achieved :D
<hannes> ^5
