<lobo> hannes: registering an oid was a good idea :D might come in handy for syslog https://github.com/verbosemode/syslog-message/blob/rfc5424/test/tests.ml#L35-L36
<hannes> lobo: \o/
<hannes> oh nice, 5424!! this means we can have structured data :D
<hannes> i have other plans where an oid becomes handy as well... but no code yet, so i better stay quiet
<hannes> since it is an oid prefix, we have sufficiently many oids for everybody!!! :)
<lobo> hannes: i hope so :D skimming through dbuenzlis unicode docs atm
<lobo> awesome
<hannes> lobo: are there any decent collectors + analysis tools for 5424 syslog data? (I'm using bsd syslog atm mainly, but willing to have something more comfortable)
<hannes> (pls don't name your module V1, instead stick to the RFC number :)
<lobo> hannes: i haven't looked at collectors yet. logging is really in a sad state. at work we just throw everything into logstash and convert it via regexes into structured data
<lobo> hannes: i'll add it to the todo list :D the api needs to be changed anyway before releasing it. creating structured data elements feels a bit clumsy and not really user-friendly atm
<hannes> lobo: ic.. in a nice world, I'd hope to use the tags of the Logs library (http://erratique.ch/software/logs/doc/Logs.Tag.html) to translate to a structured element each
<lobo> hannes: yes, that would be indeed possible and a good usecase
<hannes> (which likely would be code to be added to logs-syslog -- and then some (poor man's?) dynamic-bind, and voila we'd have proper logging with context information for free)
<dstolfa> hannes: \o/ @ cert
