mirage/master 05abed1 Hannes Mehnert: sleep nanoseconds
<Drup>
yomimono: do you know when is the next batch of gsoc, outreachy and other interns ?
<Drup>
(or: do I need to hurry if I want to write new functoria-related pioneer projects ?)
<yomimono>
drup: outreachy isn't for a bit yet; don't remember when. Don't know about gsoc, or whether there are interns starting in the fall
<yomimono>
it might be worth asking on the list, since avsm and mor1 likely know at least the last of that
<yomimono>
outreachy applications don't even open until 5 sept, deadline is 17 october
<Drup>
right, no big hurry then. I'll have to propose those projects at some point anyway
<yomimono>
related to existing open issues, or big new ideas? (or both?)
<yomimono>
just out of curiosity
<Drup>
not-new ideas that were mentionned but never formalized

<Drup>
it's for pioneer projects, in my mind, it should be a bit funny and not really theoretic. :)
<yomimono>
:)
<yomimono>
two staged compilations walk into a bar
<yomimono>
pioneer project: punchline!
<Drup>
After a drink, the second one quotes the first.
<yomimono>
:D
<Drup>
badam tsum
<Drup>
the first idea was the whole "functoria+js_of_ocaml" thing. So first having a gallery of unikernel generated automatically, with all the metadata that functoria emits. You could also try to run some things in a browser directly.
<Drup>
The other one, was to cut mirage-seal into pieces, in order to have a high level set of devices to build static or non static websites. Currently, a lot of the devices are not very high level
<yomimono>
ooh, I like that one
<yomimono>
I like that one a lot
<Drup>
those two are not too big in scope, but still quite free form and (hopefully) fun, so they would do decent internship projects
<hannes>
woohoo, sleep_ns in, floating point out :D
<hannes>
I also PR'ed duration to main opam repo
<hannes>
I like the first one very much so...
<Drup>
(I also have some other ideas, but those are far too free form/unguided, so it's less appropriate)
<Drup>
(the first one is an idea from mort, in fact :p)
<yomimono>
I think avsm and I discussed that right around functoria launch as well :P
<Drup>
yes, it's from that time
<yomimono>
I started playing with jsoo but had too many noob problems to get anything interesting done with it
<yomimono>
(my name is mindy i am 31 years old how do i made browser)
<Drup>
well, the reason (beside lack of time) that I didn't do it is that you need to do UX
<yomimono>
it would be very fun for someone who likes visual things, I think :)
<Drup>
I don't want to do UX :(
<yomimono>
yes, exactly
<yomimono>
UX is tough! let's go systems programming.
<Drup>
CLI UX is better
<Drup>
(to do, at least)
