I will I guess still need to build myself if I want more drivers

is it a strategy of kernelci to build only te minimal set or is this just how the defconfigs are in the kernel. it is kinda nice that the kernels are "only" 4Mb compressed
<KotCzarny>
4Mb, man i havent seen kernel fit in 512kB for a long time

<KotCzarny>
try 0.9
<keesj>
(i worked on the arm port of minix3 but there also it was getting a struggle to keep things small)
<keesj>
did 0.9 have an initramfs?
<fALSO>

well.. the home assistant type of frameworks are created for dummies and they stack layer upon layer .. upon layer. if I want to benefit from "low" maintenance.. and just gettings things working... I think I am. .. even worse last time I tried running nodejs no my board (512MB memory) I was able to run but not do "fancy" stull like installing a module . Somewhere.. I just want a simple and reliable syst
<keesj>
em to control my home possibly some rust based thing but it do not feel like picking up an other hobby for now (ee, fpga, machine learning.. sdr....)
<keesj>
lxc is actually pretty nice and low overhead and would allow to and update my system for a longer period.

if I was still able to apt-get update my boards I would not be spending my time in make menuconfig
<keesj>
but still pretty damm cool the I can do it and that it works!

<Mangy_Dog>
hmmmmm just a thought. the Rk3399 SOC, is it more powerful than the pi4?
<Mangy_Dog>
cpu wise the cpu seems a heck of a lot higher specced
<Mangy_Dog>
but what abou the gpu?
<fALSO>
lol
<fALSO>
a LOT more powerfull
<fALSO>
LOT LOT LOT
<fALSO>
both cpu and gpu
<Mangy_Dog>
hmmmmmmm
<fALSO>
the rpi people are selling very old cpus
<fALSO>
for the price of new ones
<Mangy_Dog>
power consumption wise, how much power does it take? and is the clock scalable?
<Mangy_Dog>
well ive noticed that rk3399 chips are easy to buy, so maybe intergrating on to my own board is possible.... but though it seems theres not an amazing amount of software suport for the chip yet
<fALSO>
both 3d and video codec decode
<fALSO>
are "somewhat" working
<fALSO>
there are experimental drivers
<Mangy_Dog>
hmm
<fALSO>
hantro for hw codec decoding
<fALSO>
and ... panfrost i think for 3d

or is it about the same?

so more efficiant for the speed boost?
<fALSO>
i dont know about the powers
