<mripard> I'm doing the sunxi-next merges

<mripard> wens: sun(4, 5, 7)i
<mripard> and we do use it in u-boot
<wens> yeah, fe0 gate for display and dram output for sun4i
<mripard> yep.
<mripard> fe0 and be0
<wens> my guess would be either the memory controller clock or the ddr clock (or maybe mbus? doesn't explain sun4i)
<mripard> I *think* it might be the pll5
<mripard> but I'm really not sure about that
<NiteHawk> de-fe0 and de-be0 have "clock source select" in FE0_CLK_REG / BE0_SCLK_CFG_REG (according to the A20 user manual)?
<NiteHawk> PLL 3/5/7
<wens> NiteHawk: that's not directly connected to the DRAM master
<mripard> NiteHawk: it's not the same thing
<NiteHawk> ah, ok
<wens> mripard: let's just assume PLL5? I doubt anything else makes sense
<mripard> wens: yep, that were my thoughts as well

<ignatenkobrain> hi folks
<ignatenkobrain> how I can get working sound on my cubietruck with upstream kernel?
<ignatenkobrain> which module I should build ?
<ignatenkobrain> I've googled and I think I need to get sunxicodec device in alsamixer
<ignatenkobrain> but I can't find sources of module
<mripard> ignatenkobrain: there's no support for it yep.
<mripard> *yet
<ignatenkobrain> mripard: is there patches sent to upstream or how I can help to get this done?
<mripard> ignatenkobrain: it's work in progress, so yeah there's some patches
<wens> mripard: btw, i saw you asking about aggregate regulators over in armlinux
<mripard> wens: yep
<wens> i'm interested as well, though for mmc, if they're just gpios, then mmc-pwrseq-* should solve it
<mripard> wens: I think it's a different issue
<mripard> on the board I was talking about, there really is two regulators providing current at the same time, on the same pin
<mripard> they're on parallel to provide power to a single pin on the chip
<mripard> it's not two different regulators providing power to two different pins
kaspter has joined #linux-sunxi
<ignatenkobrain> mripard: how I can help? probably with testing..
<wens> mripard: ah, i know what you mean, that's exactly the case i have...
<wens> like a fake polyphase regulator, except with LDOs...
<wens> wanted to test if it could work with just one regulator, though rtl8723bs had trouble associating with my APs
<mripard> ignatenkobrain: yeah, testing would be good
<mripard> wens: it's to power the exact same wifi chip
<mripard> and apparently, one LDO is only able to deliver 300mA
afaerber_ has quit [Quit: Verlassend]
<mripard> which is not enough to cover the peak consumptions of that chip
<ignatenkobrain> mripard: I just need to build kernel with that 7-10 patches and try to load sunxi-sound module, right?
<mripard> yes
<wens> mripard: i see
<wens> mripard: that wouldn't happen to be one of those q8* boards?
<mripard> nope
<mripard> it's the CHIP
<wens> ah!
* ignatenkobrain clones mripard's repo
<enrico_> ignatenkobrain: you can use branch sunxi-wip from https://github.com/jwrdegoede/linux-sunxi it already has everything you need
<enrico_> i'm using sunxi-codec from there, works very well
<ignatenkobrain> enrico_: looks like all sound commits the same as in mripard's repo
<enrico_> yes
<mripard> not really
<mripard> but not far off either

<ignatenkobrain> mripard: looks like only that you have a bit more commits
<ignatenkobrain> Add cubieboard2 audio codec

<premoboss> hi I have cubieboard 2, the version with no nand but a second uSD slot. The proble is tha it seems not works, i place inside a usd ad boot, but cubie dont start. i i place the same uSD in the classic slot, it start. How to solve? maybe i must configure something?

<RSpliet> premoboss: how do you define "does not boot"; does it load u-boot SPL, does it load u-boot?
<premoboss> RSpliet, it not boot at all, no video nessage, no other, no nothing.
<RSpliet> video message? did you hook it up to your computer using UART0?
<premoboss> good qeustion, but no uart converter i have at the moment
<RSpliet> UART is where you get the messages from u-boot-spl and u-boot. Without it, we can't tell what's wrong
<premoboss> but with same uSD cart i place into 1st uSD slot and ti boot perfectly, works 100%
<RSpliet> yes, but options include 1) U-boot isn't configured with boot from secondary flash 2) the mmc slot is hooked up to the SD1 (I think that's what they're called) lines, which the first-stage bootloader doesn't check
<RSpliet> 3) U-boot is configured with NAND support, and there may or may not be a problem booting from secondary SD when it's enabled
<premoboss> isee
<premoboss> i see
<RSpliet> hence more information is helpful
<premoboss> i try to find uart-usb converter.
<RSpliet> check whether it speaks the same protocol, I have a vague recollection of Allwinner boards speaking RS232
<premoboss> i already user it in past, it is always 115200,8,n,1
<RSpliet> if you've used it in the past, chances are you have a USB RS232 port ;-)
<lemonzest> when i did my first boot from my dual card cubie2 via usb, via "boot" slot it said could not find mmc1 or some sort, but boots from "data" slot
<premoboss> i have that usb.serial conferte, but i dont rememrber WHERE IS in the home
<premoboss> let me search around :-)
<premoboss> fount if but different model, i must solder pins ad wires.... no way today :-(
<lemonzest> i just use a 1$ USB p2303 usb cable on mine, red/white/green/black ables (DO NOT CONNECT RED, lolz)
<premoboss> i know about RED danger .-)

<plaes> any idea what to check, when u-boot 2015.07 hangs on CubieTruck with following msg: CPU: 912000000Hz, AXI/AHB/APB: 3/2/2
arokux has joined #linux-sunxi
<NiteHawk> plaes: possibly you're lacking a device tree? make sure to use u-boot-dtb.bin instead of u-boot.bin
<plaes> nope
<plaes> instructions here are wrong: CPU: 912000000Hz, AXI/AHB/APB: 3/2/2
<plaes> if I wrote 'spl/sunxi-spl.bin' first, and then the u-boot.img, then it won't work
FlorianH has joined #linux-sunxi
<plaes> but if wrote 'u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin' at one go, it works
<NiteHawk> that boils down to the same issue IMHO: u-boot.img vs. u-boot-dtb.img ;)
<NiteHawk> i got bitten by that, too (no dtb) - when trying to use FEL boot
<plaes> yeah.. you're right
<plaes> so.. what should I delete the first instructions?
<Dodger78> hi , is cubieboard-4 ethernet working in 4.2rc kernels ?
<NiteHawk> it should be alterend / amended to say that for DTB-based u-boot (2015.07+), it's necessary to substitute "u-boot-dtb.img" for "u-boot.img"
<plaes> dunno.. it's just easier to remove the first instructions
<NiteHawk> can we be sure to have u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin? i dunno since when u-boot has been supporting that
<plaes> all the other examples in this section mention this file too
<NiteHawk> admittedly there's little to no point to copying SPL and main binary separately then - as far as i'm concerned feel free to replace that with just writing the combined file...
<NiteHawk> less instructions / decisions to make, too
<plaes> yeah, fixed :)
<NiteHawk> i think i'll add a corresponing hint under http://linux-sunxi.org/Mainline_U-Boot#Troubleshooting - this "missing dtb" issue seems to have surfaced a few times
<plaes> yea.. before 2015.07 it used to work
<gzamboni> humm, got my lcd working, i had to enable OLD_SUNXI_KERNEL_COMPAT in my u-boot config even if im using the mainline kernel
<NiteHawk> yeah, the previous 2015.04 was before the switch to device model
<NiteHawk> gzamboni: that's strange. mainline shouldn't be affected by that
<gzamboni> it just doesnt give any signs of life if i dont enable it
