I received a free sample of the new A20 Orange Pi board, but onboard Realtek wifi doesn't work and isn't recognised by lsusb, can you help?
<raffahacks>
Thank you
<bonbons>
raffahacks: are you sure the wifi is be usb-attached? On ARM it often is attached via a different bus
<raffahacks>
Thanks bonbons, in that case how can I see if it's attached or if it is not?
<bonbons>
it should be described either via fex (3.4 linux-sunxi or android kernels) or device-tree for mainline kernel
<raffahacks>
Sorry for my ignorance, what command can I write in terminal to see if it's recognised or if it isn't?
<bonbons>
those ARM busses are not runtime-discoverable as are USB or PCI, thus what is connected and how SOC pins are to be multiplexed must explicitly be described in platform data (fex, dtb)
<bonbons>
`ip link list` is the best offer I have, next would be looking at your platform meta-data (as I don't know what kernel you are using, hard to guide you)
<raffahacks>
As the board is new, there's now no official OS and I'm using Bananian for Banana Pi. Is it possible that there isn't the required kernel module and it isn't still recognised for that reason simply?
<raffahacks>
In that case I should just wait some weeks

let's turn the question the other way around, what do you have software side: uboot, kernel (userspace distro I don't care)
<bonbons>
with that information it's possible to tell you where to look further

mripard: is this something that should worry me? never seen this before, only difference is, that I plugged the board into my home network instead of my work network
<raffahacks>
I don't know which version is the kernel, but it's Bananian 15.01
khuey|away is now known as khuey

raffahacks: kernel version you can check with `uname -a`
<premoboss>
raffahacks, 'dmeg | more' tells you all the hardware that is recognized by kernel at boot.
<raffahacks>
Output is "Linux bananapi 3.4.104+ #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jan 8 (ecc.) armv7l GNU/Linux"
<premoboss>
read the output of commnd (quite long) an inside you will see if there is or not the device you are lloking for..
<raffahacks>
Thank you
<raffahacks>
Is there a text version of dmesg | more for a text editor like nano?
<raffahacks>
I don't see that device :(
<raffahacks>
Can I use grep with dmesg?
<bonbons>
ok, that's fex. Check your boot partition for fex/bin files, your system definition should be there
<raffahacks>
Do you mean script.bin?
<raffahacks>
Sorry, I'm going out now, I have to leave. Bye :)

how can I monitor pps pulses via one of the gpio pins of the cubieboard1? I installed the module of course (pps_gpio + pps_ldisc) but opening the /sys/class/gpio/gpio1_pg9/value for example does not create a /dev/ppsx device
<kivutar>
is there a more recent branch than 3.4 that works well?
<kivutar>
on a20
<kivutar>
with mali
<plaes>
nope
<kivutar>
ok, thanks
