<elektirnis>
hi
buZz has joined #linux-rockchip
<elektirnis>
so I have a rock64 4GB board...
<elektirnis>
with very unresponsive debian
<elektirnis>
as if any acceleration is off
<elektirnis>
anyone familiar with this board?
<stikonas>
elektirnis: out of box debian?
<stikonas>
at the moment open source 3D drivers are still in heavy development
<elektirnis>
no, I flashed the latest build from their website to sdcard
<elektirnis>
somehow even raspberry is much snappier that this board...
<stikonas>
well, I only have rockpro64...
<stikonas>
haven't tried website builds, but tested open source in-development driver (panfrost). I was able to run accelerated weston but not much more
<elektirnis>
I have to admit I'm far from linux guru... Where do I begin to make it better?
<elektirnis>
if I take a stock rockchip build, I will have to configure lots of peripherals?
<elektirnis>
also have you tried it with eMMC memory? Does it make a difference?
<stikonas>
yes, I use eMMC
<stikonas>
I think it's faster than SD card
<stikonas>
I even think about moving to normal SSD via PCIe bus..
<stikonas>
you can also try asking on #Rock64 channel on irc.pine64.xyz

stikonas: quite sure elektirnis is talking about HW video decoding inside a browser
<buZz>
which he fails to mention
<elektirnis>
no, not really...
<elektirnis>
all of GUI is really slow, as if it is running HDD from 1980
<buZz>
ok, cause thats what you mentioned in ##hardware
<buZz>
well, slow SD cards do exist
<elektirnis>
perhaps it is caching something to SD?
<stikonas>
yeah, actually what is the performance of your sd card?
<stikonas>
you can try finding out...
<elektirnis>
random access times is what SDs are famous of.
lurchi__ is now known as lurchi_
<stikonas>
elektirnis: I do get about 99 MB/sec on eMMC with hdparm -t
<stikonas>
but probably random access time is also better
<stikonas>
not as good as on my laptop though (400 MB/s)
