mmind00: about the rk3399 usb3 saphire issue, what do you think, which is the proper way to fix? As I understand the fusb302 should implement reporting usb cable, but this is something I can't do because I don't have the hardware (I guess)- Or should we fallback when usb3 phyter fails?
<mmind00>
eballetbo: I'd think if nop extcon is supplied we should fall back to host-mode
<mmind00>
eballetbo: for example the rk3399-firefly has one typec-phy connected to a fusb302, while the second ist connected to a usb3 host port without any pd controller in between
<BenG83>
RockPro64 also has that type-C setup
<BenG83>
it's more or less the same as rk3399-box

<mmind00>
and that way, even though the fusb302 doesn't report the cable state right now, both ports would at least work in host-mode, till someone adapts the fusb
<eballetbo>
mmind00: sound reasonable, we will need to modify the documentation binding as extcon is now specified as required and should be optional i such case.
<eballetbo>
I'll look at this
<mmind00>
eballetbo: yep, but going from required to optional doesn't affect backwards-compatibility, so there shouldn't be any issue binding-wise :-)
<eballetbo>
ack
<BenG83>
what I don't understand, why does the rk3399-box reference design even use fusb302, the two USB3 ports already have CC1/2 pins?
<BenG83>
just to avoid implementing the power switch stuff manually?
<eballetbo>
ooi, is the rk3399-box reference design public?
