<hanetzer>
yo. looking to install u-boot onto the spi flash chip of my asus c201 chromebook; I followed the instructions of 'doc/README.rockchip' from upstream u-boot, but I get no apparent reaction from it; I'm seeing a reference in some old logs from this channel that the spl has to start at 64 (kb?), is this correct for spi booting?
<hanetzer>
phh: think so; I've been doing some investigation; there were some patches being worked on from raptor engineering which has some ram timing stuff.
<hanetzer>
part of the dts
<phh>
so you want an u-boot spl without spl_back_from_brom?
busterbcook has joined #linux-rockchip
<hanetzer>
no, I want it to work, don't care how :P
busterbcook has quit [Client Quit]
<phh>
hanetzer: mkimage rksd mentions that it already offsets by 32KB (so 0x40 sectors)
<phh>
erf wait, you want rkspi
<hanetzer>
phh: yeah. I've taken the u-boot.img and u-boot-spl.bin and di the mkimg/dd magicks mentioned in README.rockchip
<phh>
you get nothing at all on serial?
<hanetzer>
no serial :P
<phh>
you're trying to debug that without a serial?
<beeble>
hope you have access to the spi wires. because if you now have a valid header in the spi flash the fun begins
* vagrantc
wonders how much adjustment the pine64_plus mainline u-boot would need to support pinebook
<beeble>
vagrantc: probably the wrong channel :)
<hanetzer>
phh: yeah. as far as I know there is no location I can hook up a standardish uart to this device.
<vagrantc>
oops
<vagrantc>
beeble: for me it's right next-door
<beeble>
one to the left for me
<hanetzer>
phh: I know that there's that servo board for chromebooks, but I don't have one of those on hand.
* vagrantc
also
<phh>
hanetzer: well then you can remux usb to uart23
<phh>
uart2*
<vagrantc>
now that i'm here, may as well break out the veyron-speedy and test 4.14-rc3 :)
<hanetzer>
phh: oh?
<hanetzer>
vagrantc: hey you! what bootloader do you have on your speedy?
<phh>
hanetzer: you need to dig a bit to find which bit sto change
<vagrantc>
hanetzer: libreboot
<vagrantc>
hanetzer: well, i guess technically, the bootloader is depthcharge
* vagrantc
would really like to get a real bootloader like u-boot working
<vagrantc>
there are similar models in mainline u-boot
<phh>
I guess the real one is grf_writel(0x34003000, GRF_UOC1_CON4); // usb uart enable.
<phh>
erm wrong line
<phh>
anyway
<vagrantc>
hanetzer: you can get a serial port on one of the USB ports ... but it may require software support ... so might be hard in bootloader
hanetzer has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<vagrantc>
it's been a while since i've tried, since i try to use a modular config, and it requires building the suppor into the kernel ...
hanetzer has joined #linux-rockchip
<hanetzer>
goddammit shit connection. Well, if libreboot would cooperate with me I'd prolly just use that.
<hanetzer>
vagrantc: yeah, I threw together a theoretically working dts for speedy based on some dts I decompiled out of running chromeos and some patches from raptor engineering
<vagrantc>
i haven't really gotten the veyron speedy into useable shape using mainline linux yet ... not sure if libreboot has bugs that need fixing
* vagrantc
doesn't have the hardware on hand to fix a broken rom or whatever
<vagrantc>
so i haven't been willing to update it ... which means it's basically useless for now
