<vagrantc> *sigh*
<vagrantc> on a wild hair, i decided to try debian stretch's linux 4.9.x on the veyron-speedy, and it taunted me by working the first time
<vagrantc> and then proceeding to still fail to detect eMMC properly
<ayaka> vagrantc, it is a unknown bug
<ayaka> it should be fixed the future version, at lease at the linux next
<vagrantc> ayaka: i've reported the issue a few times
<vagrantc> ayaka: do you mean known bug?
<vagrantc> even got a patch accepted, only to have it reverted because it breaks for someone else
<ayaka> vagrantc, the emmc detecting is broken at 4.9.x
<vagrantc> i have it working consistantly with 4.8.x with a simple patch to the device-tree, but that patch didn't work on 4.9.x or 4.10.x
<vagrantc> maybe i can get this working with rootfs on microSD or USB...
<ayaka> vagrantc, I would suggest you have a try on the USB

* vagrantc tries 4.11.x
<vagrantc> and if that doesn't work... 4.12-rcX ... and then linux-next... :)
<vagrantc> 4.11 seems to be having other issues...
<vagrantc> detected stall... Sending NMI from CPU2 to CPUs 3: ...
<vagrantc> NMI backtrace for cpu3
<vagrantc> is it a fix to the mmc driver or dts that's likely fixed in linux-next?
<ayaka> vagrantc, I never met such problem, could you offer your log please?
<vagrantc> hard to get a log, as it doesn't boot
<vagrantc> beyond not booting, it crashes pretty hard
<vagrantc> i'll see if i can get a USB rootfs working
<vagrantc> i've got a usb cable hacked up for the rockusb serial support thing somewhere... but i'm trying to use standard debian kernels which have the necessary USB support compiled as modules
<vagrantc> be easier to debug if the rootfs works reliably
<ayaka> vagrantc, using the early prink would help
<vagrantc> ayaka: i get output on the screen, but there's no way i can manually transcribe a full screen worth of information
<vagrantc> and it scrolls past most of the information
<ayaka> vagrantc, minicom has a capturing function
<vagrantc> ayaka: how do i connect minicom to the LCD?
<vagrantc> :P
<vagrantc> i don't have a viable serial console
<ayaka> ok I see
<vagrantc> USB rootfs seems to be working pretty well with 4.9.x
<vagrantc> so that's promising

<vagrantc> ok, this is very interesting
<vagrantc> the eMMC is detected reliably when using USB rootfs with linux 4.9.x
<vagrantc> would it be dangerous to use it?
