bashintosh: the kernel never reads the dtb from the nand - it's the bootloader that does that ... with CONFIG_ARM_APPENDED_DTB enabled, a dtb appended to the kernel-image simply takes precedence over any dtb provided by the bootloader
<bashintosh>
mmind00: Perfect! Just the answer I needed... :) Thank you very much!

bashintosh, we have obv. very different times to be around :o) , u-boot can indeed load the very same kernel with different dtb, this works i.e. on NV Tegra. Since you will most likely boot always the same machine the real use-case of an appended dtb will make no big difference.

is rkflashtool 5.1 outdated or still useable ?
<lautriv>
or let me rephrase this ... the linux mainline howto on radxa talking about "rkflashtool P < parameter_linux_sd" which gives me a simple usage (wrong command)

lautriv: we must be at the opposite sides of this spinning ball.. Yeah thanks, I figured that for now (while working on 3.14) I always append the dtb to the kernel and leave resource.img with a working dtb tested previously. I basically bricked a board by flashing a "broken" dtb with resource.img - U-Boot was not happy about that. By appending the dtb to the kernel instead the worst that can happen is
<bashintosh>
a oops somewhere during the boot but at least I can re-flash the kernel without breaking anything.. :)
