<hramrach> phh: the preinstalled media player is not capable

<hramrach> I can try finding manufacturer provided firmware upgrades if any
<hramrach> also how do I tell if I have 8bit or 16bit or 32bit or whatever memory?
<hramrach> often the playback problem stems from lack of memory bandwidth and I heard some tablets save on PCB traces and are capable of playing full hd but not displaying it

<cosm> hramrach: dmesg |grep Width
<cosm> hramrach: 720p videos work even with a 16 bit memory bus width *and* software decoding
<cosm> something else is wrong
<cosm> think I've suggested this before, but try another player

<hramrach> cosm: ok so what player do you try on Android?
<hramrach> is there like some binary which you can download, put on a SD card and then use ?
<cosm> AFAIK android has a HAL infrastructure for video acceleration so players don't have to be aware of the platform they're running on
<hramrach> that's nice.
<hramrach> so how do you download that?
<hramrach> there is no download link

<hramrach> hmm, so mxplayer works. the video playback does not
<hramrach> I found I have mxplayer, fnf media player and hd video player
<hramrach> and neither can play 720p without stuttering :s
<hramrach> something an a13 tablet can do ..
<ferric> what device, hramrach?
<hramrach> also there is probably something in the video format that the player does not like
<hramrach> because a 1080p 10hi video which the a13 tablet would not be able to play at all plays *better*
<hramrach> maybe the problem is that the 10hi is decoded in software which is sluggish but flawless but the 8bit 720p is decoded in hardware which is broken
<hramrach> and since IO installed the mxplayer NEON codec and the codec architecture is shared any player should be able to decode in software now ..

<hramrach> adb does not work :s

<ferric> i couldn't get adb to work with my qx2 stick either
<hramrach> adb is supposed to be usb device 18d1:d001 or 18d1:d002 but I get 2207:0010

<cosm> ferric, hramrach: try this: http://stackoverflow.com/a/17763886
<cosm> that works for me
<cosm> or install a terminal emulator on the device

<ferric> cosm: put the right vendor/product in adb.ini too
<cosm> do you have usb debugging enabled?
<ferric> i was on a chromebook under crouton so maybe that made a difference
<ferric> cosm: yes
<ferric> cosm: lsusb showed the device
<ferric> cosm: adb couldn't find it
<ferric> i put it in /etc/udev/ etc too
<cosm> hmm
<ferric> i should just buy a linux box to do development. :/
<ferric> or a dual-boot linux/windows box
<cosm> I don't really know how this android wizardry works
<cosm> but just permissions + the change in adb.ini were sufficient for me
<cosm> I get the same vid:pid as hramrach
<ferric> yeah, i think i just a real machine.
<ferric> not sure why hramrach's adb isn't working, though.
<cosm> I found this kernel source with Hudl patches: http://www.tescotechsupport.com/downloads/
<cosm> it seems to have some lcd drivers I haven't seen in any other trees
<cosm> maybe some other stuff too
<cosm> so if anyone feels like checking it out...
<cosm> I found it useful because it has a board file and an screen file which use SSD2828
<cosm> by the way, I found the datasheet for SSD2828QN4, the exact mipi bridge used in my tablet
<cosm> the one we found previously was for SSD2828QL9 which has a different footprint and possibly some other stuff

<hramrach> obviously it does not work because it's Android
<hramrach> the damn adb tool docs say nothing about adb.ini
<hramrach> the damn stackoverflow question says to make an adb.ini but nothing about wth you are supposed to put in it
<hramrach> so typical for anything related to android
<hramrach> and it does not work anyway
<hramrach> maybe the device is supposed to be 1902 and not 10
