I don't think I have the wifi firmware, but more concerning I also don't see the wifi in the dmesg at all
<Wizzup>
Do you have the mwifiex driver(s)
<tookmund>
Yes I think so
<Wizzup>
can you confirm
<tookmund>
Its in my kernel config at least
<Wizzup>
as a module?
<tookmund>
I disabled modules so its compiled in. Is that a problem?
<tookmund>
Ive copied the firmware now from the chromeos partition but the device still doesnt show up
<Wizzup>
It can be a problem, with recent udev/systemd
<tookmund>
Really? huh. I'll reenable them and rebuild then.
<javier__>
tookmund: if you have it built-in, you need the firmware to be either in your initramfs or built-in the kernel image
<Wizzup>
It's the reason I am on eudev 1.10-r3 on some systems
<tookmund>
Oh ok. How do I build it into the kernel image?
<Wizzup>
linux has an option for it
<Wizzup>
grep for FIRMWARE
<Wizzup>
you can have it include extra files

What folder is the firmware option relative to? I've tried a couple things but linux can't seem to find it
<Wizzup>
I am not sure if it is a relative folder.
<Wizzup>
Firmware is stored in /lib/firmware for me

Nevermind I made a typo in the config :) It couldn't find the firmware when building but it looks like it goes in the firmware folder anyway
<tookmund>
Ok that didn't work. the device still doesn't show up
<Wizzup>
what does dmesg say
<tookmund>
firmware load failed because it needs to be in the mrvl folder... time to rebuid again :(
<Wizzup>
:)
<Wizzup>
or make it a module

<javier__>
tookmund: or have an initramfs
<tookmund>
I could do that but it shows up now
<tookmund>
Thanks for all your help!
<tookmund>
Anddd the network works perfectly! Yay!

tookmund: if you run into problems with OOM errors in the wifi firmware, remove the module, suspending, and probing it again helps.
