donV: eh I see your issue ... its unfortunate to do it the other way around ... maybe you can fix your git issues?
<donV>
kares: OK, I will. I just hoped to avoid the hassle :) Will go for a merge with 1-3-stable.
<donV>
kares: I branched from master, so I hope there is not much difference.
<kares>
donV: there is esp. in RubyJdbcConnection ... but not in the parts you were touching
<kares>
it's just that it's easier to merge from 1-3-stable to master than the other way

donV: also no need to rush for merging into master if you're planning on doing more ... your call, I usually try to avoid comiting the adapter.jar too much (still the case on 1-3-stable)
<donV>
kares: Do you think a rebase of the branch against 1-3-stable will work?

donV: not it won't just merge to master than ... I'll do the dirty work
<kares>
well it actually might ... I'm not sure about git internals that much
<kares>
donV: also planning a 1.4 pre release from master (next week) ... should I wait for more work of yours?

kares: Yes, I am working on getting serialized columns working for derby at least.
<donV>
kares: A bit stuck in the rebase...maybe a cherry pick is better?

enebo: Hi! We are experiencing a critical issue for several our customers after upgrading to JRuby 1.7.21 https://github.com/jruby/jruby/issues/3145 - do you have an idea what could be causing this?

[jruby] fjyaniez opened issue #3146: OpenSSL::SSL::SSLError: Received fatal alert: handshake_failure http://git.io/vmuj7
<rsim>
enebo: I am asking the details from 3 customers which experienced this problem and currently got more details from the first and as they have app on a mounted file system then I was thinking that maybe it is causing it
shellac has joined #jruby
<rsim>
enebo: unfortunately I don't have direct access to their servers and cannot make more experiments
<rsim>
enebo: for this one customer the mount point is shown as filer6b:/vol/… - as I understand this filer6b: is some NAS server
<enebo>
rsim: you said linux in the issue?
tvo has joined #jruby
tvo has quit [Changing host]

<rsim>
enebo: yes, all are linuxes
<enebo>
rsim: I was just looking to make jnr-posix was updated or not. Does not appear to be for 1.7 so it is likely something changed in jruby specificially which very well could be mkristian changes
<enebo>
rsim: so that is a relative path?
<enebo>
file6b:/vol/...
<rsim>
enebo: yes, it seems that rubygems to chdir to gem main directory and then File.stat "LICENSE" fails (as LICENSE is the first file in some gem file list)
tvo has quit [Client Quit]
<rsim>
enebo: this file6b:/vol/something shows as a mount point
<enebo>
so in /some/abssolute_path/file6v:/vol/… where file6b is a mount point
<enebo>
err file6b:
<rsim>
enebo: the customer told that this file system is on a "filer" - as I understand it is NAS server
<rsim>
enebo: but it is accessed as /some/path from the application
<enebo>
ah so perhaps one of those patches is a little too zealous in thinking file6b: is a URI scheme
<rsim>
enebo: no, the applciation does not see this file6b:
<enebo>
rsim: ok but it might see it somewhere once we resolve the real path perhaps
<enebo>
rsim: I am more brainstorming to see what falls out :)
<rsim>
enebo: probably RedHat has some servers with NetApp storage :)
<enebo>
rsim: could be. Being in middleware I suspect it is in a different part of the company though
<enebo>
rsim: so this was working in 1.7.20.1 (or 1.7.20)?
<rsim>
enebo: it is working in 1.7.20, haven't tested with 1.7.20.1
<enebo>
same release sans a single security fix
<rsim>
enebo: and when I just change the JRuby version in our app from 1.7.21 to 1.7.20 then it starts to work - so I'm pretty sure that just the changes in JRuby is causing this (all other gem versions are the same)
<enebo>
rsim: yeah I can believe that

rsim: having them run with JRUBY_OPTS=‘-d -Xbacktrace.style=raw’ might help show us when it is throwing an exception. I find this issue off because it seems to be at some point in jnr-posix itself.
<enebo>
rsim: of course it would make sense it would throw in jnr-posix but we did not upgrade jnr-posix so it would almost seem like we are passing in a different filename or somehow flipped that lstat boolean (which would not appear to be the case)

Right now it looks to me like RVM is installing its own 3.1.1 for JRuby > 1.7. Could either just update RVM's existing way to 3.3.3 or switch to using JRuby's ./mvnw. Which is preferred?
