As far as I understand my domain name is actually set towards and IPFS gateway. Which then checks my _dnslink settings and show returns the proper CID. I do not understand how this works together with https. Like for example the url https://docs.ipfs.io has a secure connection

you could setup your own gateway, or, you could use a gateway which automatically sets up https. cloudflare's gateway will do that. they have a page where you can warm it up and get it to issue a certificate, which takes them about a minute, then after that it'll serve over https

I assume they're doing some Lets Encrypt style shenanigans in the background since you point your domain there anyway, they can easily prove their control over it to the certificate issuer

note that cloudflare's gateway wont serve everything, specifically content that looks like a video, they block. I'm guessing some copyright stuff probably went down, but you have options, you can use js-ipfs to setup a node in the webpage to stream videos directly from the p2p network instead of loading it through the gateway, or you could use the encryption tech that's already present in most web browsers and well

established, that exists mainly for implementing DRM, but at least HLS's normal kind of crypto is just AES encrypting the video blobs, so it would totally obscure the video headers and prevent content type sniffing, and then if your filenames don't give it away, it should be damn near impossible for gateways like cloudflare's to block it on content type

As Jorropo (Discord) said it's a little complicated, but the short version is that IPNS over pubsub is going to be better for speed since it's a "push" protocol where you are preemptively told about updates, rather than a "pull" protocol where you have to ask for them.

is there a mechanism to find out how much data is pinned in your repo? If sum the cumlulative size of all the pin roots, i get a vastly inflated number where I have lots of versions of the same data set... if i sum the blocked size of every pinned block on a 40GB repo... it takes like 90mins
