So I got a question about how to make hashes for a bunch of files
<shoku>
I know how we could right click and get hash for one file
<shoku>
right click and get the hash of a folder, that's a bit less clear
ygrek has joined #ipfs
<shoku>
and then there's highlight a bunch of files, and right click and get one hash for those
<shoku>
I'm not clear on whether that's doable as one hash. Is it possible to put multiple hashes in one hash? like if it was a folder?
<shoku>
Basically I'm just wondering the commands to get that kinda thing done
<ToxicFrog>
shoku: like, take a bunch of files and pack them into a directory in IPFS and get the hash of that dir?
<shoku>
yeah
<ToxicFrog>
shoku: ipfs add [-r] -w paths...
<ToxicFrog>
The "-w" tells it to wrap the path(s) in a directory
<ToxicFrog>
This is useful even for single files because it preserves the filename that way
<shoku>
can you put multiple paths in that one call?
<shoku>
oh wow. you get that for free? eg there's nothing to do on my ipfs node or whatever? I can just have a hash, and whether it's a file or a folder it will: open the file (file) / open a directory listing (folder)?
<lidel>
shoku, welcome to IPFS ;)
<shoku>
that's gonna save me a lot of time
<shoku>
thx lidel
<shoku>
btw where can I read about how the http links work?
<shoku>
I have no idea how the webserver works, where the http page is served from, does it use one host or many, all that jazz
<lidel>
shoku, there is not much to it, if you run go-ipfs you get http gateway for free, it runs on port 8080 bu default, but you can change that
<lidel>
you can put it behind reverse proxy (eg. nginx) if you need more control
<Swedneck>
or your local gateway, which is localhost:8080 by default
