abrasive: Hi, I got my uboot multi-boot to work, can i send you the patches to review. For now it would mean we lose recovery feature, but I think that can be added
<hste_>
jas-hacks_: morning. I think u have a typo in one of the messages: no /boot.src found on.. shouldn't the message be No /boot.scr found on ?
<jas-hacks_>
hste: morning, yep will fix
<jas-hacks_>
hste: new uboot looks ok?
<hste_>
jas-hacks_: yes it looks great so far, but have to wait till I get home to test it more.
<hste_>
jas-hacks_: where is the bt startup located that u removed?
<jas-hacks_>
in xubuntu something like -> setting -> startup application
<hste_>
jas-hacks_: I'm fixing the mkimage-script so that it patch the udev and preparing it for when u "release" it on your blog :)
<jas-hacks_>
on a cold boot to xubuntu I get wheezy appearing on the screen with the kernel version displayed
<hste_>
wheezy?
<hste_>
jas-hacks_: I found that I had problem with xubuntu if I didn't reserve enough fbmem
<jas-hacks_>
pengiun
<hste_>
Are you sure its not the uboot wheezy?
<jas-hacks_>
let me check
<jas-hacks_>
yeah your right

<FergusL>
hi
<FergusL>
I erh... I know you ?
<jas-hacks_>
Are you after some help?
<FergusL>
not really
<FergusL>
I had in mind to ask a slightly off-topic question
antony has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]

about rockchip cpus which are found in products very similar to mx6 ones

cnxsoft: have you ever dreamed of a devboard ala Beagleboar/Raspberry Pi with RK3066 or 3188 ?
<cnxsoft>
Dreamed, maybe not. But that could be interesting. Linux support is not as good as the other two platforms you mentioned though.
<FergusL>
yes, sure
<FergusL>
hey just seen the last article
jas-hacks_ has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<FergusL>
cnxsoft: but I think when mx6 quad and RK3188 mini PC boxes start to appear, that will be great
<FergusL>
so called "TV sticks" are not the best options for some embedded solutions/hacks
<cnxsoft>
There are already i.MX6 quad mini PC, but not many. I don't know why. RK3188 mini PC should start to ship at the end of the month
<cnxsoft>
MiniX Neo X5, no. I have 2 STBs: Mele A1000 and Tronsmart Prometheus
<cnxsoft>
and Wandboard Dual + enclosure is similar to a set-top box.
<FergusL>
okay, if these two have ethernet, did you check if it's hardwired directly to the CPUs Ethernet bus or did they use an USB chip internally... ?
<cnxsoft>
For the Mele a1000 it's direct
<FergusL>
the wandboard dual is great, the Odroids are even better but a bit too new and expensive
<cnxsoft>
Prometheus I haven't checked
<FergusL>
I see
<cnxsoft>
There's still a bit more work to do on the firmware for Wandboard
<cnxsoft>
A few things don't work yet.
<FergusL>
I see
<FergusL>
I have two usecases: one is an embedded solution for live music, so it would be a linux embedded computer that runs synths
<FergusL>
the other is a video acquisition box but it needs to have PCIe 8x so I'm dying for a SBC that has a PCIe x8, ever heard about something lie this ?
<cnxsoft>
I think i.MX6 quad support PCIe, so one of the dev boards must have the connector.
<FergusL>
thanks for the info cnxsoft
<FergusL>
Kontron has a lot of interesting products !
<cnxsoft>
Yes, but I don't know if they sell to individual. If those are commercial projects then it should be OK.
<cnxsoft>
FYI. The Sabre Lite has a PCIe port.
<FergusL>
the second one is :-)
<FergusL>
thanks about the Sabre Lite
<FergusL>
though it's 1 PCI lane only
<FergusL>
afaik, the number of lanes defines the bitrate

<jas-hacks_>
hste: int -> ext -> usb
cnxsoft has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]

<hste>
jas-hacks_: is it possile to change the check to check ext first?
<jas-hacks_>
hste: do it matter? it is very quick
<GasVesa>
hste, hi, just got my usb-eth adapter. It works like a charme
<GasVesa>
out of the box.
<hste>
jas-hacks_: then its easy to swap ext without bothering whats on internal boot.scr
<hste>
GasVesa: how is performance on usbeth?
<jas-hacks_>
hste: you can easily rename the boot.scr on the internal sd. Let me look at the change
<hste>
jas-hacks_: booting from usb is working with my nopowerd usbhub, but my usbstick is slow
<jas-hacks_>
hste: my usbstick works well with a power hub.
<hste>
jas-hacks_: my usbstick is of the slow ones....
<jas-hacks_>
hste: if you set in boot.scr if you set :
<jas-hacks_>
setenv extra 'console=tty0'
cnxsoft has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<jas-hacks_>
then kernel output should appear on boot.
<hste>
nice :)
<jas-hacks_>
and shutdown
<jas-hacks_>
hste: i think we could also detect recovery button in boot.scr and run something different
<Juggie>
has the VPU been tested much yet how is the video accel looking?
<jas-hacks_>
Juggie: on ubuntu image?
<hste>
jas-hacks_ but the video variable doesn't work
<Juggie>
jas-hacks_, yeah i noticed VPU has just been added...
<Juggie>
was curious as to the state how its progressing
<jas-hacks_>
Juggie: it should be working fine
<Juggie>
has anyone had a shot at compiling xbmc?
<jas-hacks_>
hste: works fine for me, can u check kernel output to see what params are being passed
<jas-hacks_>
Juggie: It needs to be interfaced with gstreamer as a minimum.
<Juggie>
Just came across this project a few days ago, appears to be the best shot at linux on a stick... everything else so far has been disapointing :)
<Juggie>
jas, also, its not over clear on your blog.. which kernel requires a 'good heat sink' the cpu freq kernel or without..
<Juggie>
i'd assume cpu freq would be for overclocking
<Juggie>
but assumptions can be wrong :)
<jas-hacks_>
Juggie: I'd say both require it
<Juggie>
if we have the GK802 in stick format though going to be hard to slap a heatsink on there.
<hste>
jas-hacks_ u're right :) I thought I had build it with. another thing is I don't get sound with it.
<hste>
jas-hacks_: I think latest from git doesn't have sound working
<hste>
jas-hacks_: I think the hdmi patch from abrasive broke it
<hste>
have to do some more checking
<hste>
but your kernel got sound
<GasVesa>
hste, less that 500MB in more 15 min... not a monster... :-)
<jas-hacks_>
hste: yes I used lastest from git with imx6_gk802_defconfig
<hste>
ok so then its sth in config :)

did u install all the debs there?
<hste>
jas-hacks_: cant find the xorg debs there
<jas-hacks_>
xorg doesn't get replaced, only the vivante drivers
<jas-hacks_>
hste: don't remember everything off the top of my head, vivante_drv.so and libdri.so need to be copied to some where in /usr/lib/xorg/...
<jas-hacks_>
hste: gstreamer0.10-plugins-base recompile and installed
<jas-hacks_>
hste: so your scripting to build/deploy everything ?
antony has joined #imx6-dongle

hste: for neverball if you reset the resolution in config file /home/linaro/neverball/neverball to 800x600 or something low then it should work because it won't start in full screen mode.

jas-hacks_:yes I try to script most of the process.
<jas-hacks_>
hste: cool!
<hste>
jas-hacks_: tried building with your defconf and got sound ok. but fb I got the same screen size when not setting video. On the other defconf that didn't inherrit bootargs I got a max screen
<hste>
setenv extra 'mxcfb1:off mxcfb2:off fbmem=128M'
<hste>
setenv boot_normal 'setenv bootargs console=${console} root=${root} rootfstype=${rootfstype} video=${video} ${extra}; usb dev 0; ext2load usb 0:1 0x10800000 /boot/uImage; bootm'
<jas-hacks_>
hste: /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf change user-session to xubuntu
<drachensun>
jas-hacks thanks for your code, that tool was perfect for matching up the io configuration
<jas-hacks_>
drachensun: so you made progress?
<jas-hacks_>
hste: you don't set video value
<drachensun>
jas-hacks well I've got them matched up. Except for a few things like pull up values and such, which are slower going
<drachensun>
but I think I now have run into a trickier problem
<drachensun>
I looked at the other boards LCD initializations now that I think I get how it all works
<drachensun>
there are lots of pins to name and match up
<hste>
jas-hacks_: yes tried that to see if I got the max screen
<drachensun>
and I'm not sure how to reverse engineer which is which
<drachensun>
in the arm2 example they just used a bunch of gpio I think
<drachensun>
I was hoping they would be forced to a dedicated io set
<drachensun>
so there would only be a few options to try out
<hste>
jas-hacks_: it will not use xubuntu falling back to unity. Had same problem with the other kernel with high res, but adding fbmem to 128M solved that
<drachensun>
well maybe that was for only true for the 6dl chip
<drachensun>
ugh
<drachensun>
my cold medicine is making me stupid
<drachensun>
I've found the ipu registers, I think I can dump them too and see what is still different, I think maybe just the dual core chips were forced to us GPIO for the LCD

drachensun: did you see if the iomux setting for LCD matched in android matched board-mx6q_arm2.h
<jas-hacks_>
hste: is video param passed by to kernel?
<drachensun>
I pretty much dumped all the iomux values from 0x20e0000 to 0x20e1000 and matched them up, all the ones I have left are pull up, pull down type settings, I think. I think I have copied and called all the arm2.c LCD related calls. I can see the ldb driver getting registered correctly and I have to change around the D1, D0 between the LCD and HDMI

jas-hacks_: false alarm... I had cp wrong boot.scr. Sorry for bothering you with misinformation
<jas-hacks_>
hste: in your boot.scr best to still have: setenv console 'ttymxc3,115200'
<jas-hacks_>
hste: and then setenv extra 'console=tty0 .....'
<jas-hacks_>
hste: that way if nothing works you still have serial console output
