<bgupta> Any pointers on how to use a cloak with a cinch-bot? Google is no help.
<leftylink> bgupta: the kinds of cloaks given by irc networks? seems the answer to that question would have to be tailored to the network. I guess we cannot be too surprised that google did not help there
<leftylink> for example, for this network I registered with nickserv, said to staff "Yo this is my bot", and they had my bot verify that it was under my control, and then they set the cloak up. when my bot identifies to nickserv it gets its cloak
<bgupta> yeah, the ones given out by IRC networks.
<bgupta> ah so from the bot side.. ident is all that is needed?
<bgupta> (code wise I mean.)
<leftylink> yeah. the bot's a client just like any other irc client
<leftylink> all I (a human) have to do to get my cloak is to identify
<leftylink> same with a bot
<bgupta> (I don't use cloaks.. but I know bots get DDoSed regularly, so I want to avoid that..
<bgupta> ok.. thanks..
<bgupta> leftylink: I am not really a dev, but know a bit of ruby and cinch seems easy enough to get started. Is cinch the best ruby option for IRC?
<bgupta> Err. wait. you are here so you are probably biased.. are there any other ruby IRC options that might be worth looking at?
<dominikh> nope.
<dominikh> they're all worse :P
<bgupta> Ok I'll take your word for it, until I run into something I can't easily do with cinch.
<bgupta> cinch wins.
<bgupta> most downloads by far, most forks, and recent commits
<bgupta> lita looks interesting but isn't focused on IRC. IE: I could see learning that later for a slightly different use case.

<leftylink> right uh I researched various options but I didn't really keep notes so I dunno. autumn looked really heavyweight such that I really didn't know what I was doing with it
<dominikh> autumn was the rails of irc.
<leftylink> isaac also tried to do the dsl thing but cinch seems strictly better in that regard

<bgupta> does the echo plugin here https://github.com/Quintus/cinch-plugins work? I've got help and link_info working?
<bgupta> Is there a directory somewhare of cinch plugins.. gem search cinch --details seems to be a decent starting point, but it's unbearably slow.
<dominikh> http://rubygems.org/search?query=cinch- is quite very fast
<bgupta> Seem cinch can't attach to two irc networks at the same time, without running seperate bots?
<bgupta> (Not the end of the world)
<dominikh> that's correct
<dominikh> you can, of course, run multiple bots in a single script.
<bgupta> ah..
<bgupta> I think cleaner for now to do seperate.
<bgupta> still learning and logging to console
