15:12 <dominikh> old connection died due to bad network, irc server doesn't notice, new connection nick collides, adds the underscore, old connection eventually dies

15:14 <dominikh> could be your connection, route to server, server itself. probably one of the first two. connection losses happen. even when running on a proper server, just not as frequent
