<wpwrak> yeah, myidkey really gets a lot of live. actually, the guy behind it isn't so stupid - when it seemed that backers may actually go to court, he called the most vocal ones personally and told them that he was negotiating new funds and such, and have news in a few months. so they calmed down.
<wpwrak> of course, nothing of that sort ever happened, but it may have saved him some ugly moments in court. good con man.

<DocScrutinizer05> sounds terribly familiar in a certain way
<DocScrutinizer05> (the in-midst redesign etc)
<DocScrutinizer05> GTA03, nah drop GTA03 we jump to GTA04 right away. Rename GTA04 to GTA03. Make GTA03 have new 3PC6400 CPU instead of the "old" one. Simplify GTA03 by kicking out WLAN and other cruft, so it doesn't look like iPhone any more
<DocScrutinizer05> and I forgot to mention small little detours like "use same CPU as bunnie does, so we can have simplifications from similar design" - ignoring that this throws over our own design once more
<DocScrutinizer05> add to that "id needs OLEDS!"
<DocScrutinizer05> it*
<DocScrutinizer05> no matter how, but O*L*E*D*S!!
<DocScrutinizer05> I guess the "it needs OLEDS" was when I suspected the project is doomed
<DocScrutinizer05> when your boss has no faintest idea about the exact nature of a detail, but wants it nevertheless because of the buzzword, you know it's time for EE to abandon area

<wpwrak> wasn't it "it needs LEDs !!!" ? remember that little array of LEDs with a big controller on them ? the array of which nobody in EE had a clue what it was supposed to do ? then i asked the great designer, he didn't want to answer that and sent me to sean. sean didn't want to answer it either.
<wpwrak> so much about clear requirements :)
<DocScrutinizer05> yup, of course I remember. That been the fallout of the initial "NEEDS OLED" parole. I also remember the 64 series Rs ;-P
<DocScrutinizer05> for an array of 8*8 LEDs
<DocScrutinizer05> when I suggested to share a 8 col or row series R, I had a pretty hard time to convey that message
<DocScrutinizer05> I *guess* somebody heard "Display: OLED" from specs of some other device, and a few reports that claimed it was "brilliant, awesome, bright, cool, $whatever" and so, ignoring the first of the two words, this turned into "What's OLEDs? Oh, similar to LEDs? GTA03 needs OLEDs!"

<DocScrutinizer05> pretty similar to the "we need capacitive touchscreen"
<DocScrutinizer05> which also not been chosen for any of the valid reasons you would want one, but only because it been a hype (and still is)
<wpwrak> "hype sells" :) or sinks projects ...
<DocScrutinizer05> "let's do it like apple, but not too much since we cannot compete"
<wpwrak> yeah :)

<DocScrutinizer05> figure a vkbd on that tiny GTA03 screen
<DocScrutinizer05> and no stylus works, thanks to c-ts
<DocScrutinizer05> "no buttons" at its finest ;-P
<DocScrutinizer05> probably OM2010(?) for GTA03 would not have any vkbd at all, but grafiti input like palm pilot
<DocScrutinizer05> or a scroll wheel to browse through a dictionary of the 1000 words that evidently suffice for any conversation ;-D
<DocScrutinizer05> sorry for sarcasm. I acquired it when I noticed GTA03 wouldn't be the dive I want to own or use. Not even near to it
<DocScrutinizer05> s/dive/device/

<wpwrak> dunno if it would have been all that bad. the main problem was that the project was very unfocused. nobody took care of keeping it on track. the guiding hand of harald was clearly missing
<larsc> so your typical open source project ;)
