<FergusL> Hi here
<FergusL> been away from ministicks for a while. What is the current state of Linux of rk3188 sticks ? are there recommended products for experimenting with it ?
eebrah_ has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<FergusL> anything notable with the K-R42
<FergusL> for example :)

<moofree> FergusL: most of the rk3188 android sticks are supported by one release of linux or another
<moofree> and you generally just have to fiddle around with kernel modules to get the wifi to work, sometimes
<moofree> (wow, the site's back up)
eebrah_ has joined #linux-rockchip
<FergusL> isn't that for rk3066
<FergusL> ?N
<moofree> 4.5's for 3188
<FergusL> ok, I trust you. it isn't stated anywhere on that page
<moofree> only hint is that it links to the 3188 kernel source
<FergusL> great
<FergusL> will look into that
<FergusL> looks like the kr42 got some love :D
<moofree> mk802iv has generally the target recently, but there are two versions of that with different wifi chips lol
<moofree> wow linuxium has root filesystems for ubuntu, xubuntu, lubuntu, and debian
<moofree> lubuntu would be my first choice, xubuntu second ;)

<naobsd> why many people believe some special distribution is needed to run Linux on sticks/boxes?
Guest96526 has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<naobsd> I'm sure it's better to get kernel source which runs on someone's device
<naobsd> I'm sure it's better to do mainlining
eebrah_ has joined #linux-rockchip
<naobsd> but I cannot find any reason to say "it's impossible/bad thing to do" for someone who wants "I want to use Linux on my device"
<naobsd> Android kernel is Linux kernel. it can be used to run Linux.
<naobsd> I'm sure Android kernel is not perfect to use with Linux distro.
<naobsd> if someone wants "perfect Linux distribution without any effort to learn about Linux"
<FergusL> moofree: you meant mk802IV is the general target recently
<FergusL> moofree: you meant mk802IV is the general target recently?*
<naobsd> I will recommend x86 box or just say "perfect Linux is not available in this world"
<naobsd> ;)

<naobsd> I'm thinking to include my ramdisk which can boot any rootfs from any storage in my CWM images
eebrah_ has joined #linux-rockchip
<naobsd> it seems many Android users want CWM(or some other recovery)
<naobsd> then my CWM will also provides "boot Linux rootfs" functionality
<naobsd> (I don't think it's good to say "to use Linux, please use my CWM"... there is no dependency at all)

<FergusL> naobsd: if you're saying this ("why many people believe some special distribution is needed to run Linux on sticks/boxes?") as a comment to my question, I was merely asking what's the most active and advanced current project to look into, picuntu, omega etc...

<naobsd> FergusL: if anything, it's the people who answered, not asked. and here is not only place that people talked about Linux on rockchip devices, I saw many peope everywhere
<naobsd> I can understand that people want advanced thing
<naobsd> I don't know detail about "picuntu, omega, etc..."
eebrah_ has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<naobsd> but when someone asked "can I use Linux on my RK device?"
<naobsd> someone answered "(some advanced Linux distro) doesn't support your device, so you can't use Linux"
<naobsd> what I said is "you can't use Linux" part
<naobsd> if someone think "best or nothing", it will be true
<naobsd> I think "better than nothing"
eebrah has joined #linux-rockchip
<naobsd> people can try general(compared to advanced one, I never say "worse than advanced") distro such as ubuntu
