<swabbles> tomboy64: WiFi/bt perhaps, I haven't really tested either of those.
<swabbles> Anything else seems to work for me.
<tomboy64> swabbles: sounds promising
<swabbles> But you have to checkout the stage/sunxi-3.4 branch (instead of normal sunxi-3.4), since that one contains gmac support.
<tomboy64> i'll try it one of these days. perhaps tonight. i suspect 61 does some naughty things with sockets; in any case, my "ping" segfaults, when used on my cubietruck
<tomboy64> very good

<Vanfanel> do you guys know if X-less EGL/GLES is possible on the Cubieboard?
<lunra> http://linux-sunxi.org/Binary_drivers suggests so, if that helps
<lunra> (yes, it mentions X a lot, but it also mentions the framebuffer)
<lunra> (I tried to test this myself, but I couldn't get it to build, probably due to using Arch Linux. I'll try again later...).
<Vanfanel> lunra: it seems to be the case, yes. The section "Verifying the EGL/GLES driver stack" talks about the framebuffer possibility.
<Vanfanel> I was thinking about the FOSS LIMA driver anyway, did you try it?
<lunra> Anyone know what might cause only the HDMI audio to be registered on a cubieboard1? card0 is HDMI audio and card1 is not present. Using Linux 3.4.67 from git (hopefully latest, I tend to make mistakes with git), CONFIG_SND_SUNXI_SOC=y, CONFIG_SND_SUNXI_SOC_CODEC=y, CONFIG_SOUND_SUNXI=y, Linux 3.4.67
<lunra> I haven't tried Lima, sorry
kivutar has quit [Quit: Ex-Chat]
<tomboy64> Vanfanel: you want something usable, use mali. lima is still alpha.
<Vanfanel> tomboy64: yes, but I need something to work without Xorg, and accelerated EGL/GLES.
<Vanfanel> just like in the Raspberry Pi
<Vanfanel> where EGL/GLES context is configured used DispmanX (native BCM windowing API)
<tomboy64> how does that relate to mali vs. lima?
<Vanfanel> but I don't know what the cubie(MALI) would use for that. KMS maybe?
<tomboy64> it provides /dev/fb
<Vanfanel> It relates because LIMA and MALI could be using different windowing APIs
<tomboy64> /dev/fbx
<Vanfanel> but /dev/fbx can be legacy fb or KMS...
<Vanfanel> any idea what it uses really?
* tomboy64 shrugs and goes back to work
<Vanfanel> tomboy64: sorry, did I say something stupid?

<tomboy64> Vanfanel: it means, i know what i told you. asking the same question over and over again, and then elaborating it again won't magically create new knowledge in my head. someone else might know, though, so wait and hope. or investigate yourself.
<tomboy64> if you are really interested in kms vs legacy fb you definitely should investigate anyway.
<Vanfanel> tomboy64: I know it won't create new knowledge in your head, but maybe you knew what framebuffer it's using, and if it's kms, I can rest assured it's using kms for windowing since I know this API is used often for EGL/GLES without X
<Vanfanel> that's why I asked :)
<Vanfanel> It's not asking "the same" over again, but a different question whose answer would be useful for me to make conclussions about the initial question
<Vanfanel> but thanks for your help anyway :)
<FR^2> Thanks for cyanogenmod! Just updated my i9000 from 4.1.2 to 4.2 :) works like a charm

<swabbles> Vanfanel: there is no KMS support.
<swabbles> sunxi-video is not even a DRM-driver.
<swabbles> And Mali is totally unrelated to KMS/DRM btw.
<swabbles> Reading back: lima and mali shouldn't care about window management, the only thing the ARM Mali is responsible for is 3D acceleration.
<swabbles> Similarily G2D is responsible for 2D acceleration, and the video decoder for accelerated video decoding.
<swabbles> Do note that G2D's sole purpose is 2D acceleration, it is unrelated to framebuffer creation, mode setting, etc.
<swabbles> The Allwinner SoC has different components that deal with VGA, HDMI, etc.; mode setting; etc.
<swabbles> Which is what the sunxi-video driver is for.

<Vanfanel> swabbles: so is the sunxi-video framebuffer used for MALI (LIMA) EGL/GLES on the framebuffer? Or EGL/GLES is only usable in an X enviroment?
wooy has joined #cubieboard
<swabbles> From what I would imagine, the Mali driver would just get a buffer to write the output to, i.e. a framebuffer should work as well as it works when using a window buffer in X.
<swabbles> But I don't know how that would be implemented application-wise (I haven't dug into X-less applications using OpenGL et al yet).
<Vanfanel> I was thinking about RetrpArch: http://themaister.net/retroarch.html
<KBme> swabbles, if there is gl on android it means it can do gl on the framebuffer
<Vanfanel> It's not just a GUI but an API for emulators and general gaming stuff, wich provides low-latency input and synamic sound rates to adjust to the physical video mode. It's best suited for x-less enviroments.
<Vanfanel> I was thinking about getting the Cubie for that, really.
<swabbles> Vanfanel: I think you should be fine, then.
<swabbles> KBme: it should be able to do OpenGL ES on the framebuffer anyway, since the OpenGL ES is not going to care what output buffer it gets.
<Vanfanel> swabbles: ok then. CubieBoard, here we go... do you know if DX is a good place to buy it in europe?

<swabbles> Vanfanel: I ordered mine at miniand.com (which seems to be somewhat cheaper, depending on the shipping costs, of course).
<wolfy> i wanted to order from miniand, but they wanted to add $6 shipping costs for each additional item. one Wi-Fi dongle => + 6; one case => +another 6
<wolfy> and they ignored my email asking for clarifications
<wolfy> Vanfanel: I bought my cubie2 from eleduino
<Vanfanel> swabbles, wolfy: do those places ship from europe then? customs are a concern here in stinky Spain
<swabbles> wolfy: I bought like Cubietruck + two HDD add-ons for $109 + $30 shipping costs from miniand.
<swabbles> Vanfanel: miniand ships from Malaysia.
<wolfy> Vanfanel: i am in romania. the cubie arrived via DHL in 3 days
<swabbles> The order from miniand was also handled by DHL.
<wolfy> Vanfanel: if you buy for a company, you can avoid paying VAT by purchasing from another country in EU. LIke http://www.sos.sk/ or http://www.exp-tech.de
<wolfy> Vanfanel: there are no taxes inside EU but you must be registered in the european VAT database, whatever its name is
<Vanfanel> wolfy: if a package comes from within the EU, there are no taxes: no need to be registered :)
<Vanfanel> that's why I'm trying to buy from within the EU
<Vanfanel> I'm not a company, just a hobbist :)
<wolfy> Vanfanel: as a company you avoid paying VAT if yiou are registered
Robert_E has joined #cubieboard
<wolfy> i am not speaking about customs
<Vanfanel> ahhh!! VAT, ok
<Vanfanel> sorry I got it wrong
<Robert_E> hi guys. is there any guide to recompile the latest lubuntu kernel for cubietruck?
<swabbles> wolfy: in the Netherlands you always have to pay VAT, but you can get (part of) it back if you are a company.
diffycat has quit [Quit: diffycat]
<swabbles> As for customs, it depends on a lot of factors tbh.
<Vanfanel> But guys, I'm not a company. So it's VAT for me, either on miniand or eleduino
<Vanfanel> They have the same price
<swabbles> In my case, the package went through custom clearance without additional costs, and I am still not sure if this was organised by Miniand/DHL, or because they didn't feel like dealing with it.
<Vanfanel> All my DX packages went through customs without any additional costs, too
<wolfy> Vanfanel: i've heard very good reviews on miniand. I did not buy from them but from eleduino only because of shipping costs
<wolfy> dx is OK and usually no customs are paid for their packages. but they do not have ( or did not have ) cubies 2 months ago when I ordered mine
<swabbles> The problem with local companies is that, at least from what I have seen in the Netherlands, is that they usually end up being more expensive, even if you have to pay additional fees.
<swabbles> But then again, that mostly depends on the companies that do offer what you are looking for :).
<wolfy> local companies add their benefit to the total. and given that customs and maybe shipping are the same.. price gets higher compared to ordering directly from china
<Vanfanel> swabbles: that's the problem. Cubies here in Spain are VERY expensive.
<Vanfanel> btw, how good is the Cubie2 making? I mean, the Rpi is pretty much solid and resistant, with good connectors, etc
rellla2 has quit [Quit: Nettalk6 - www.ntalk.de]
<Vanfanel> how does the cubie compare in that regard? No reviews seem to cover thee things.
<Vanfanel> *these
<swabbles> What details are you looking for specifically? Like the production quality of the board?
<Vanfanel> yes, that's it
<Vanfanel> sorry, my english can be a bit confusing sometimes :)
<wolfy> Vanfanel: seemed fine. the case has problems
<Vanfanel> But I thank you for your patience, swabbles and wolfy :D
<swabbles> It seems fine to me as well, I don't have any case though, at least compared to other boards and devices I own.
<Vanfanel> The case? did you get the semi-transparent one?
<wolfy> i could not use the OTG interface until I removed the board from the case. livesuit did not see the board despite the fact that power was delivered via the same cable
<wolfy> and the "power" button is very difficult to acces
<wolfy> if you power the cubie from an external PSU
<Vanfanel> wolfy: did you get the official, black & white case then?
<wolfy> yes
diffycat has joined #cubieboard
<Vanfanel> wolfy: ah! But it can be powered from a barrel connector, right? the OTG interface is just another USB port..
<wolfy> right
<wolfy> but I had to flash the nand. and I could not until removing the board from the case
<Vanfanel> So it came inside the case??
<Vanfanel> They come "cased" when you buy them? The case is listed as an "extra" item in both miniand and eleduino shops
<wolfy> No, it comes in a larger paper case . I placed it inside the plastic one thinking that was the normal way to us it
<swabbles> Vanfanel: ironically, the cable they ship with is USB to barrel pin :').
<wolfy> read that as larger carton box
<Vanfanel> wolfy: ah! so you had to take it out of the case before flashing it
<Vanfanel> I mean, you put it on the case, and then you realized you had to take it out for frashing
<Vanfanel> *flashing
<wolfy> exactly, because of the plastic case, the USB connector did not make good contact with the cubie
<swabbles> But yes, there is a barrel pin connector to power the board from (you can buy a power plug for it, if you want, at least that's what I'd recommend, especially if you want to make sure there is enough current to power the board and its peripherals).
<wolfy> probably just the power lines were connected but not the data
<Vanfanel> you guys are being a great help here... these situations and findings are WAY easier to deal with when someone has told you about them previously :)
<wolfy> Vanfanel: i am pretty satisfied with it. If only I managed to use the VDPAU...
<swabbles> wolfy: I have a guide for that (I have managed to set it up), but I generally use Gentoo Linux, so I am not sure if it will work for you.
<wolfy> swabbles: i compiled the drivers . and vlc
<wolfy> and vlc crashed big time :)
<swabbles> Ah, I am using mplayer/mplayer2 instead of vlc.
<Vanfanel> wolfy: just guessing here but.. what about mplayer? I used VDPAU with it
<swabbles> With vdpau support enabled.
<Vanfanel> you have to select the codec, etc
<Vanfanel> but it's easy
<wolfy> thing is that I want to display 4-5 video-streams in the same time
Robert_E has quit [Quit: Verlassend]
<wolfy> better said, up to 4-5

<Vanfanel> wolfy: I know, I was just kidding :)
<wolfy> swabbles: already bookmarked that page, 2 weeks ago :)
<swabbles> These are the instructions I jotted down for vdpau, but they are for Gentoo, and the mapmot overlay part is still missing.
<wolfy> thankls
<swabbles> Ah right.
<Vanfanel> swabbles: oh man.. and Gentoo, too! I loved that distro back in the day :)
<swabbles> I use Gentoo on pretty much everything, except for my Nokia N900 :).

<RobertE> Turl I hope u get my post !?
<Turl> RobertE: it's probably some lxde option you need to set
<Turl> RobertE: what post?
<Turl> lxdm*
<RobertE> Ok u get it :-)
kivutar has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
<RobertE> In sunxifb.conf?
<Turl> RobertE: no, in lxdm
<Turl> it should have a thing to select your prefered session, and it should stick until you change it
<Turl> so you should be able to choose unity and use that
<RobertE> U mean when I boot I get the login screen (greeter) . There I can choose something jut unity does not appear.
<Turl> maybe you miss some package or configuration
<Turl> ubuntu or lxde channel may be of more help
