I guess you can pretty much power up the circuit though the ESD diodes right ?

well that explains why my low-power keepalive battery is drawing ~10 mA

gotta figure out a good way to pull a pin high on battery power that's connected to the FPGA when fully powered up. guess a diode would do it tbh.
