ikillcypher: now start developing and make device smooth, kthx.
<IbrahimA>
i expect HDMI out on exynos4 devices by friday
<IbrahimA>
actually on a serious note, just to check my understanding, the issue with HDMI on exynos4 is that it's supposed to go through hwcomposer somehow and we don't really know what hwcomposer is supposed to do properly?
<a3Dman>
that's what I figured out
<IbrahimA>
i am basically fishing around for roughly 1-2 month long side projects to work on between now and starting grad school in the fall
<IbrahimA>
i have pretty good java/C/C++ experience and some asm
<IbrahimA>
not really much specific to android though
<IbrahimA>
would "fix hwcomposer" or "fix HDMI" be things that someone dedicating all their time for a month or two could fix in theory?
<IbrahimA>
mainly i just want hdmi out on my note 10.1 lol
<a3Dman>
not sure, I think we should let ikillcypher fix all the remaining bugs ;)

<Jiangyi>
IbrahimA: Think the problem right now is that the hwcomposer's not doing anything at all. :-P
<a3Dman>
IbrahimA: you could always check it, I think it would need C experience only...
<a3Dman>
and I think some reverse eng.
<DAGr8>
codeworkx
<DAGr8>
here ?
<IbrahimA>
yeah i guess my question is whether it's just being held back by developer time being limited or if it's so inscrutable that even if the entirety of teamhacksung worked on it full time for months they wouldnt be able to reverse engineer it
<a3Dman>
I'm not sure if anyone spent time on it or not tbh
<Jiangyi>
DAGr8: Nightynight time in Germany atm :-P
<DAGr8>
damn it
<DAGr8>

It's good to practice.

well now I want to learn how to edit and code push to github or for review cyanogenmod

hey all, I'm trying to build a CM10.1 image for the galaxysl (i9003), but I'm unsure as to which repos to use for it (the teamhacksung ones or the dhiru1602 ones). I've got a checkout of the CM sources and I've used this local_manifest.xml file -> http://pastebin.com/gykNcYpc Does the list of repos look like the right ones for this device?

You use a virtualization or you are a linux user ?
<a3Dman>
I have a good experience with GNU/Linux
<IbrahimA>
hmm my AMD phenom2 quad core builds in less than an hour and i only have 6gb RAM
<IbrahimA>
no ccache or anything either yet
pr3fatum has joined #teamhacksung
<IbrahimA>
i think you do need more swap
<RossWell98>
a3Dman: distribution ?
<a3Dman>
no swap also?
<a3Dman>
having swap is better
<IbrahimA>
i use a 10gb swap file or something idk
<IbrahimA>
need it to be bigger than your memory capacity for hibernate which i use a lot
<a3Dman>
RossWell98: first I used fedora back in 2005, then moved to ubuntu, then to gentoo for 1 year after that I used archlinux for like 3-4 years
<a3Dman>
I still use Archlinux but not mainly
<IbrahimA>
having swap lets your OS push unneeded crap out to disk rather than have to keep everything in memory so that could be why even if you're not seeing much swap usage a bigger swap file would work better for building
<IbrahimA>
also i feel like -j28 is too much for that cpu lol
<a3Dman>
RossWell98: also, check your CPU utilization, I think it's not 100% all of the time because you don't have swap
<a3Dman>
and also that's right -j28 is much and uselss
<IbrahimA>
yeah in fact with that many processes you're just going to run out of memory faster
<RossWell98>
Alll in 100% ^^
<a3Dman>
-j5 makes my quad core 100%
<a3Dman>
RossWell98: all the time?
<IbrahimA>
you can get 100% utilization with j8
<RossWell98>
yes
<RossWell98>
and yes i use -j5 when i use my pc
<IbrahimA>
j28 will just mean that each individual task runs way slower
<a3Dman>
back in gentoo days, I used tmpfs for /var/portage dir, that gave me epic 100% all the time :)
<RossWell98>
Oh Gentoo ...
<a3Dman>
SSDs were just a lab experiments :)
<a3Dman>
I remember compiling gnome 2.26 or 2.24 on celeron d with 2.4ghz xD
<a3Dman>
took like 5 days
<IbrahimA>
... why?

<RossWell98>
:o
<IbrahimA>
hmm how long does it take to build a full OS on modern hardware?
<a3Dman>
tried to make optimized binaries and learning
<a3Dman>
IbrahimA: less/more than android :)
<RossWell98>
you're patient ...
pr3fatum has joined #teamhacksung
<a3Dman>
IbrahimA: celeron d 2.4 was so slow
<a3Dman>
it took like 2 hours to compile GCC on that, I do it in 12 mins on Q6600
<a3Dman>
IbrahimA: I've learned a lot from Gentoo, and enjoyed using it
