I am working closely with the Clever Cloud startup ( http://www.clever-cloud.com/ ) and they want to support Ruby, and provide their own gem server

the problem is that they need to precompile the gems with C extensions

knowing which gems have extensions is easy (but a bit time consuming), but it would be really useful to know which gems are the most used. The API provides the 50 most used, but that's not enough :/

so we were trying to get V8 working but apparently it doesn't compile easily on windows. This person is a total newbie.

so I switched to ExecJS and we ran node from a downloadable exe which seems to start up a node console right away.

Well the weird thing is that I now have nodejs running... I have a javascript prompt... but execjs isn't recognizing it. I don't know whether I need to be running it in "server mode" or something but the command-line help doesn't suggest there is such a thing.
