Is there a way to script a gem install <gem> installation to automatically answer yes in case there is a question? I couldn't find it in the help file and there is no manpages entry for gem...
<herbert__>
my installation says ""rdoc" from rdoc conflicts with /usr/local/bin/rdoc" and asks me which one to keep. I would like to automatically say "yes" for my script bc. the way it is now it breaks.

ok, so it's like every christmas will be a new release and 2 previous will be kept?

ooshlablu: Yes, the current stable release is joined by two in normal maintenance and one in security maintenance.

generally speaking, you don't git track your .lock file

jidar: The longstanding practice has been to commit the Gemfile.lock for apps but not gems. Bundler is now recommending to commit it for gems too, which makes the guidance simpler.
<adam12>
That advise for gems is controversial; I was a believer in it too, until I had a _strange_ CI failure that I couldn’t debug.
<havenwood>
adam12: Yeah, I'm not a fan of it personally since I've seen it cause more pain than help.

<havenwood>
Gemfile.lock is in practice somewhat brittle and some gems are more regularly maintained than others.
<havenwood>
I think it's fair to say Gemfile.lock should definitely be committed for apps and it doesn't matter for gems.
<havenwood>
Some gems do, some gems don't. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
<havenwood>
All apps do. If they don't, something is seriously amiss.

what do you guys think about asdf as version manager instead of rvm
<adam12>
deviantfero: I dont’ personally use it (I use no version manager other than Docker) but I can see the benefits of it, especially if you need multiple tools.
<weaksauce>
it seems like a nice version manager
<adam12>
deviantfero: Having versions defined for ruby, node, postgres is pretty nice.
<weaksauce>
for all things
<weaksauce>
i really really dislike rvm though
<newton>
I've used it for a few years w/o issues (before I used chruby)
