<wpwrak> fairly long in my case. 07:07, i woke up to the insistent beeping of my UPS. rushed to the PC to close the ~200 windows i had open, many with editors and such in them. 16:3x power tried to come back. lasted a few seconds, then failed again until ~20:15. all is well since then.
<wpwrak> all that was accompanied by particularly foul weather. it's been raining almost non-stop from thursday to tuesday. worse, we had fog down to almost ground level, and that fog had a really unpleasant smell.
<wpwrak> fortunately, i had only few perishable things in the fridge. and my ice cubes even made it through the ~13 hours without power intact :)
<whitequark> good fridge

<wpwrak> yeah :) old one die a few months ago and i did some intense market research to find a good replacement (with a few added parameters, like available space and how to fit it in the elevator .. i'm on the 14th floor, so dragging one up the stairs could be a bit of entertainment). seem that a chose well :)
<wpwrak> the interesting thing is that there seems to be no fridge in the market that tells you the internal temperature(s) (not only in argentina, but i expanded my search to US and europe, because i didn't believe that doesn't exist - zero results)
<wpwrak> a bit later, also the microwave failed (17-18 years seems to be a sweet spot for kitchen appliances). another surprise: there are basically none that would have a halfway modern user interface. i mean, numeric codes to select the type of food you're trying to cook. seriously ?
<wpwrak> seems there's plenty of opportunity for open hardware in that sector, too ;-)
<whitequark> wpwrak: there's a microwave that has an nvidia tegra inside with some machine learning to detect what kind of food is inside visually
<whitequark> i think microwaves skipped the "icons on touchscreen" phase to get right into "ai bullshit" one
<wpwrak> (one little project that's been on my to do list for a long time is a temperature logger i could drop in the fridge, to find out what unpleasant truths the manufacturers conspire to hide from us. pretty trivial, just have to do it ...)
<wpwrak> ;-))

<wpwrak> what's doubly puzzling about microwaves not having touch screens is that they would also be a lot easier to clean than buttons and knobs. ironically, my old cheap microwave had a membrane keyboard (think zx81), which wasn't so bad in that regard. the new fancy one is full of gaps in the control panel.
<whitequark> oh, huh
<whitequark> yeah, i don't get it either?
