<irker318>
testing irker
<wpwrak>
kewl, so this should work
<DocScrutinizer05>
hmm?
<DocScrutinizer05>
oooh
<DocScrutinizer05>
well
<DocScrutinizer05>
feel free to use mi ZNC
<DocScrutinizer05>
my*
<larsc>
what is he going to irk?
<wpwrak>
i was trying to use the "irker" notification service of GitLab. for some reason it doesn't work. but if i run the daemon locally, all is well, as the above example illustrates
<DocScrutinizer05>
ooh
<DocScrutinizer05>
thought irker is a simple bouncer
<wpwrak>
i like them :) they show activity also when everyone is busy coding, without time for idle chat :)
<wpwrak>
but i would have asked for opinions, of course. but only after ensuring it actually works.
<DocScrutinizer05>
when everybody is busy coding, only those who *really* don't want to see notifications will watch them
irker318 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<DocScrutinizer05>
I usually suggest to use dedicated irc channels for notifications, so everybody joining there is actually interested in them
<wpwrak>
well, as we know from the advertisement industry, if someone doesn't like something, you just have to repeat it until they do (-:C
<DocScrutinizer05>
artificial activity == sort of noise
<DocScrutinizer05>
yeah, that works so well. I notice it each time I zapp to another TV channel
<DocScrutinizer05>
I actually have a long list of products I do NOT buy, ever, thanks to annoying ads
<DocScrutinizer05>
well, just me. nm
<DocScrutinizer05>
anyway for now I' happy each time the qi-hw tab in IRC turns green (new posts). This might change
<DocScrutinizer05>
or rather I'd put the irker on my ignore list I guess
<wpwrak>
we already have notifications for many of the repos on qi-hw. so it wouldn't exactly be anything novel.
<DocScrutinizer05>
then I guess there already have to be some ignores
<DocScrutinizer05>
;-P
<wpwrak>
:)
<DocScrutinizer05>
I generally hate ignores
<DocScrutinizer05>
but well, just me. Again
<wpwrak>
don't we live in a happy virtual world ? would be nice if problems could be solved so easily in the real world. something troubles you, just /ignore <trouble> and happiness is restored :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
well, it actually causes similar troubles long term in RL and in IRC
<DocScrutinizer05>
in neither of both it actually *solves* trouble
<DocScrutinizer05>
RL analogy would be to simply never watch news
<DocScrutinizer05>
any actually I can't find a notifier service except kernie on my /ignore
<DocScrutinizer05>
first problem
<DocScrutinizer05>
which of the ignores might be a notifier service
<DocScrutinizer05>
so I guess you're not interested in an ccount on my bouncer
<DocScrutinizer05>
might come in handy on your next connectivity curfew
<wpwrak>
for now, i'll try to keep things simple :) but thanks for the offer !
<whitequark>
there's the logger, anyway
<DocScrutinizer05>
wpwrak: things stay as simple as they are, with a bouncer
<DocScrutinizer05>
you just swap irc.freenode.net for myserver.net:myport, and you change your server password to match the one on bouncer
<DocScrutinizer05>
the rest rather gets simpler, e.g. with sticky channels which open automatically when they were open when your irc client went south
