DocScrutinizer05: hm. nothing matches... well.. back to the seller it goes
<xiangfu>
DocScrutinizer05: Hi, is the case ok for you? what should we do on the cases?
<DocScrutinizer05>
xiangfu: sorry, still stuck at customs
<DocScrutinizer05>
so I can't say anything more than a few weeks ago
<xiangfu>
DocScrutinizer05: ok.
<xiangfu>
is there anything I can help?
<DocScrutinizer05>
well, probably not
<xiangfu>
ok.
<xiangfu>
let me know anything I can help.
<DocScrutinizer05>
there been one tiny typo in invoice but that doesn't explain how customs cocks up
<DocScrutinizer05>
I sent them a lengthy explanation of what's the content and where to look on ebay for faintly similar objects and their value
<DocScrutinizer05>
thios been a few days ago, I hope it will finally go free now
<DocScrutinizer05>
xiangfu: I'll ping you as soon as I know any news
<xiangfu>
Okey
<DocScrutinizer05>
maybe eventually I'll have to tell customs to contact you and tell them that you dug out those cases from your garbage bin
<DocScrutinizer05>
but I doubt they would even bother to contact you, after all you can tell then no more than you already did in invoice. Or anything you like
<DocScrutinizer05>
when they don't trust ebay, they will probably need to have some expert check the parcel's content
<DocScrutinizer05>
jerks
<DocScrutinizer05>
too many parcels from china, all declared as "gift" or otherwise fraudulent
<DocScrutinizer05>
german customs gets pissed since years
<xiangfu>
yes.
<DocScrutinizer05>
next time we add more google searchterms to the content declaration
<DocScrutinizer05>
are the cases re-assembled or in separate parts?
<DocScrutinizer05>
IOW can customs dude see that there's missing the PCB?
<DocScrutinizer05>
well, he probably could anyway when sliding open, there's abig hole where kbd should be ;-D
<xiangfu>
in separate parts.
<xiangfu>
but I put them together. for don't break when shipping.

#got a 2.5 inch 12v +/- composite lcd but it's got a darn clf backlight. so it's a noise monster and needs 300ma ! when my 4.3 inch one with led backlight uses 100ma @12. i want to run it rom a little lithium batt. i see the clf is held sandwiched on top via some screw, could i replace it easily with a led one if so any quick suggestions?
<arossdotme>
@12v
<arossdotme>
this screen has a built in lift/right flip which means i can use it for taking selfys with my action camera
<DocScrutinizer05>
generally replacing backlight by another technology or design is *very* difficult
<DocScrutinizer05>
ideally check out where the CFL sits and replace the CFL by a LED strip, with no more than 5mm pitch between LEDs
<DocScrutinizer05>
then you 'just' need to figure which direction the LEDs have to face to - mind you a CFL is omnidirectional by design

<DocScrutinizer05>
odds are your efficiency of new design is so poor that you need even _more_ power for the LEDs than for the CFL
<DocScrutinizer05>
what do you mean by "noise monster"?
<DocScrutinizer05>
EMI? or audio?
<DocScrutinizer05>
if you meant audio, then there#s sth defect in the converter, which might allso account for the high power consumption

<DocScrutinizer05>
prolly the whole thing is sooooo oooold that the elcos fell dry meanwhile. Nothing unusual, and would well cause audible noise and poor efficiency
<DocScrutinizer05>
also cheap crappy inductors/transformers/chokes can cause quite some audible noise and same time reduce efficiency
<DocScrutinizer05>
impact on efficiency isn't _that_ much though in this case
<DocScrutinizer05>
unless the thing gets saturated
<DocScrutinizer05>
(= operating at too high current)
<DocScrutinizer05>
then efficiency drops through the ground
<DocScrutinizer05>
like: 200 of the 300mA would simply heat up the choke then
<DocScrutinizer05>
decent SPSU have a controller that avoids such pathological states of operation. Simple cheap ones you can bet will suffer from exactly that on overload of output

D ocScrutinizer umm i there i heard a little bit of noise but whats bad is it has a built in speaker but the noise the audio circuit picks up is awful. it's louder then the audio output from my camera
<arossdotme>
i was suprised to see it uses clf
<DocScrutinizer05>
pph, that clearly indicated eelctrolytic capacitors gone south, no?
<DocScrutinizer05>

guess thats why it has analog brightness,sat
