16:10 <arigato> exarkun: I can fix this. Apparently cpython takes any "# -*- coding: UtF-8-YADDA -*-" and interpret it as if it was written exactly "utf-8"

16:11 <exarkun> arigato: I found a PEP from 2002 that says it is illegal to have a BOM and a coding of anything other than "utf-8"

16:11 <exarkun> not 5 minutes ago the project that had this weird coding declaration merged my PR changing it to "utf-8" :)

16:12 <arigato> but cpython "normalizes" the coding, replacing anything that looks like utf-8 with exactly utf-8, and the same for iso-8859-1

16:12 <exarkun> seems vaguely reasonable ... I guess in practice there aren't any codecs with names like, "utf-8-is-pretty-nice-but-i-prefer-latin-13-so-this-is-latin-13"
