<DocScrutinizer05>
enyc: alas the SLG46826 lacks a few features the SLG46533 provides and we use, e.g. separate -IN for the ACMPs, the 826 has all 4 on common pin IO1 labeled VREF-EXT :-/
<enyc>
o dear =)
<enyc>
is there a problem just using/sourcing SLG46533 ?
<DocScrutinizer05>
no, not at all
<enyc>
just no programming magic or whatever it is...
<DocScrutinizer05>
just they don't offer the nice ICP feature
<DocScrutinizer05>
yep
<enyc>
what parts-related-issues are there wrt proto_v2 feasibility, anyway ??
<DocScrutinizer05>
right now none known
<enyc>
its just issue with people//layouters//fab/process//etc ?
<DocScrutinizer05>
yes
<DocScrutinizer05>
plus funds running low since time costs money, always
<DocScrutinizer05>
plus my availability which dwindles due to health issues

<^7heo>
Hey there
<^7heo>
So it's tempting to say "Shut up and take my money" to such a cool project, but: is Q3 2017 (plus or minus a few quarters, which is understandable) still realistic? :)
<^7heo>
and is the 1K final price also realistic?
<^7heo>
In addition, is it possible to meet the people (I'm located in Berlin) and/or contribute? :)
<DocScrutinizer05>
hi ^7heo! I'm located in Nuernberg, meeting isn't too hard. Contribution always very welcome. Our schedule in Q3/2017 was to have a proto_v2 by xmas, but our layouter is MIA and I'm really not able to follow up like I should, since 2 months, due to health issues and other RL impact to my life. The final price still is "realistic" (or as unrealistic as it always been, anyway stable at 1k) but we need to source our minimum count of
<DocScrutinizer05>
preorders like we always had to, which I hoped to achieve with a kickstarter to kick off after we got a proto_v2 to show off
<DocScrutinizer05>
enyc: http://susepaste.org/88700344 we need the SLG46533 for _that_ one at least. The other two *might* work with SLG46826
<^7heo>
Long story short:
<^7heo>
1. Yes, meeting could be great
<^7heo>
2. I have enough cash to help for one more preorder
<^7heo>
3. I want a phone I can trust, so having the hardware trusted would help
<^7heo>
4. I however think you can't vouch for the SoCs you're using, or for having zero hardware bugs
<^7heo>
5. But I'm still willing to support development knowing that.
<^7heo>
So that's why I'm curious about the state.
<^7heo>
anyway bbl, mahlzeit.
<DocScrutinizer05>
an guten!
<DocScrutinizer05>
sure, we can't know for sure what's happening in our SoC, just like nobody was aware of meltdown/spectre issues in Intel or AMD or any arbitrary other (or ARM) CPU. But our appraoch at least is for users to have full control over the software they run, and if that's not possible like with modem radio stack "firmware" we put the whole thing in a tight hw sandbox with monitors
<^7heo>
yeah
<^7heo>
(Typing from my "phone")
<DocScrutinizer05>
so even when there were vulnerabilities in SoC (according to freemangordon there shouldn't in Cortex-A8 with powerkernel that flushes TLB on context switch), users have full control over the software they run so might be able to avoid allowing exploits to tun on the system
<^7heo>
I think that your initiative is outstanding, and it's truly sad not many more people care
<DocScrutinizer05>
most sad thing is I finally reached a point where my health becomes an issue and I'm the only project team member right now
<DocScrutinizer05>
thanks anyway for appreciating our approach
<enyc>
meow
<pkircher>
sup doc hows the layouter comming along ?
<pkircher>
all in kicad now ?
<DocScrutinizer05>
sure, kicad migration is finished since 20 months. metacollin however is MIA
<pkircher>
metacollin was the spanish guy we talked about back then ?
<DocScrutinizer05>
no, the spanish guy wasn't 2the right one"
<DocScrutinizer05>
s/2/"/
<pkircher>
oh allright
<DocScrutinizer05>
metacollin lives in Los alamos
<DocScrutinizer05>
and is a N900 fan
<pkircher>
hah awesome
<DocScrutinizer05>
and a contributor to kicad development so very savvy in kicad, unlike the spanish guy
<DocScrutinizer05>
alas he gad a fatality in his family and since then is MIA
<DocScrutinizer05>
had*
<DocScrutinizer05>
actually he was MIA for 4 weeks, then came back for half a day and since then again MIA
<pkircher>
urgs
<pkircher>
ya i can relate lost my dad in dec.
<DocScrutinizer05>
I can't blame him, just it's another RL impact to the project. The plan was he built proto_v2 boards a 4 weeks ago
<DocScrutinizer05>
and I'm not up to the task to closely micromanage the project at them moment due to own problems
<DocScrutinizer05>
I'll send another email asking him what's up, right now
<pkircher>
micromanageing doesnt help - just puts more strain on the guy
<pkircher>
hell come back eventualy when he recovers
<pkircher>
everyone copes differently
<DocScrutinizer05>
strain to me as well
<pkircher>
ya but the project has been a burden for quite some time
<pkircher>
so a few more weeks wont make a HUGE difference
<DocScrutinizer05>

<pkircher>
dang ..
chomwitt has joined #neo900
<^7heo>
yeah but there's not a lot of money
<^7heo>
there's a LOT of work
<^7heo>
so obviously enough...
<pkircher>
problem is its a ungreatfull project .. on the operational side
<pkircher>
a very small comunity actualy want such a product
<pkircher>
yet it drains alot engeeniering power
<pkircher>
getting resources to a decent price which fits in the budget and entertain them over a certain time isnt a easy task at all
<^7heo>
yeah
<^7heo>
totally
<^7heo>
but it's very needed
<^7heo>
and the choice of the n900 is a very good one.
<^7heo>
I think we should be like 30 devs or something
<^7heo>
gathering
<^7heo>
and deciding to donate 100 bucks to the project
<^7heo>
that would help already I guess
<^7heo>
I dunno how much money is needed per [time unit here]
<^7heo>
and if that is just a drop in the bucket
<^7heo>
but I'd donate.
<DocScrutinizer05>
great approach, by all means pretty please follow up on this. I pondered sometjing along that line myself, I'd be more than willing to try something probably unique and new: crowd project management
<^7heo>
Honestly
<^7heo>
I know a couple of devs who give a crap about it.
<DocScrutinizer05>
transferring "ownership" of the project entirely to community
<^7heo>
I'm quite afraid of "community run" stuff
<^7heo>
look at the USSR.
<^7heo>
"It's broken." - "Not my duty" - "Okay then not mine either."
<^7heo>
I think it's important to have responsability somewhere.
<^7heo>
But yeah this neo900 project is imporatnt
<^7heo>
important*
<DocScrutinizer05>
yeah, it needs a certain dedication to the project's success. anyway I need help, it's too large a project for one single person to run it
<^7heo>
I remember when I met the guys from Phoenux at the Linux Tag in Berlin in 2013 (or 2014?)
<^7heo>
I was already interested
<^7heo>
and tbh at the time I failed to completely understand the importance of that project.
<DocScrutinizer05>
whom? Nikolaus?
<^7heo>
Possibly.
<^7heo>
It's a very long time ago in my life, I'm not very clear on the details anymore.
<^7heo>
DocScrutinizer05: Understood.
<^7heo>
DocScrutinizer05: I'll ask a good friend if he can vouch too.
<DocScrutinizer05>
sorry, busy. BBL
<^7heo>
Yeah no worries.
<^7heo>
Talk later anyway, gotta fix git.
