<user404d> hello~
<user404d> I have a question that maybe someone here may be able to answer
<user404d> would it be possible to have a sandboxed(maybe not the right term) version of firefox built on/in a mirageOS unikernel?
<Drup> that doesn't make much sens, mirage unikernel are composed of OCaml code (and C). firefox is composed of a lot of things. (it is also not really designed to do that)
<Drup> there are lots of general purpose isolation techniques, why not use those ?
<user404d> mm, I was curious about unikernels and mirageOS and thought I might look into trying to do something like this with it
<user404d> but yea I figured as much after reading through some of the docs and other material available on mirage.io
<user404d> the idea wasn't really super well thought out, but ended up being a proposal for a project in a course I'm taking
<user404d> so I will probably map out what would need to be done and explain why it wouldn't be practical etc
<user404d> thanks for your input though, I appreciate it
<hannes> user404d: you might enjoy building firefox on top of a rumpkernel... but it's a huge amount of stuff you need, including X11..
<user404d> yea... after I made the proposal I was just thinking of all the dependencies that most modern browsers have
<user404d> and I was like 'what the hell was I thinking?'
<user404d> haha
<Drup> user404d: maybe do links instead ? :]
<user404d> links?
<hannes> or lynx or w3m.. that'd actually be a nice project
yegods has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<hannes> or starting with a html rendering on a terminal in OCaml :)
<Drup> step 1: parse html. Aaaaah
<Drup> x)
<user404d> lol
<user404d> well thanks for the ideas guys, I really appreciate it
<hannes> Drup: step 2: implement a JS engine
<user404d> oh god
<Drup> hannes: does lynx/links handles js ?
<user404d> nope, doesn't look like it
<user404d> oh wait
<user404d> maybe links does
<user404d> looks like it's not available by default
<user404d> bye~
<user404d> thanks again for the help
