[mattermost] <sb10q> @astro I put my homebrew laser on ch0 so you should see a response now
<mtrbot-ml_>
[mattermost] <sb10q> it's cooling right now
<mtrbot-ml_>
[mattermost] <sb10q> hm, I've disconnected the TEC because the thermostat card gets quite hot
<mtrbot-ml_>
[mattermost] <sb10q> seems it defaults to full TEC power or something

[mattermost] <hartytp> @sb10q can you put a precision 10k resistor and 1Ohm load on one channel please?
<mtrbot-ml_>
[mattermost] <hartytp> for debugging/sanity checking it's always nice to have really well known conditions to check that everything behaves as appropriate
<mtrbot-ml_>
[mattermost] <hartytp> Defaulting to max power sounds like the DAC is not programmed yet. We should make sure to start with the TEC driver shut down and only enable it after program the DAC to the nominal 0 TEC current

Hello there, I am using an ARTIQ system and I try to understand how to use the URUKUL card. The ARTIQ API gives a function to write in a 32/64 bits registers. Is there a list of key word to write in this register (RAM_MODE_DIRECTSWITCH, RAM_MODE_RAMPUP,RAM_MODE_BIDIR_RAMP...) instead of write hexa numbers ?
<mtrbot-ml_>
[mattermost] <sb10q> @hartytp 1 ohm will likely still cause a lot of heating on the thermostat board. i'd rather put something safer

[mattermost] <astro> interesting, the range of ADC values on ch1 has changed too
<mtrbot-ml_>
[mattermost] <astro> no readings of any channel change when I modify i_set DAC output... I hope it works at all

[mattermost] <hartytp> @sb10q 1Ohm was completely fine with the board on a desk. It got hot but not dangerously so (see the thermal images we posted)
<mtrbot-ml>
[mattermost] <hartytp> IIRC we also ran it with a 1Ohm load inside an enclosure with a thermistor used to probe the hot part of the board and it was also fine
<mtrbot-ml>
[mattermost] <hartytp> it gets hot enough that you don't want to handle it, but well within the spec of all the components IIRC (but, refer to the thermal images to be sure)
<mtrbot-ml>
[mattermost] <hartytp> but, anyway, put a few Ohms there if you want, it won't affect anything we need to do to develop/debug the code
<mtrbot-ml>
[mattermost] <hartytp> what do you mean?
<mtrbot-ml>
[mattermost] <hartytp> What's the setup and what exactly do you see?
<mtrbot-ml>
[mattermost] <hartytp> What are you reading? Just the main ADC?
<mtrbot-ml>
[mattermost] <hartytp> without understanding the setup I don't know what to expect here. but a good approach to debugging might be to bring the microprocessor ADC up now
<mtrbot-ml>
[mattermost] <hartytp> then you can check the I_set DAC with the microprocessor ADC and confirm it's behaving as expected
<mtrbot-ml>
[mattermost] <hartytp> you can then use the other ADC channels to check the TEC current etc
<mtrbot-ml>
[mattermost] <hartytp> or you can ask someone to check with a DMM but that has quite a high latency!
