<megi> sorry for the one rpi there :D

<willmore> megi, shocked!
<megi> by the lone rpi? :) I know, I was young and stupid
* willmore has one of each generation at least.
<willmore> Know they enemy
<megi> hehe
<willmore> megi, does that terminal program let you issue commands in parallel?
<willmore> It looks like they're all doing an update of some sort.
<megi> those are separate terminal windows
<willmore> I'm currently trying xfce-terminal with tabs
<willmore> Okay, so you entered an update command in each one separately?
<megi> basically like tabs just stacked vertically
<megi> I have a script that runs urxvt for each board with ssh and pacman -Syu inside
<willmore> Gotcha. Not much different than the tabs on xfce-terminal, then.
<megi> basically
<megi> yep
<willmore> I need to find out what the 'next tab' and 'previous tab' bindings are. Found the 'new tab'
<megi> I also wrote an irc bot to communicate with the boards in parallel from inside weechat
<willmore> Oh, probably not doing that. :)
<megi> that's the closest to being able to control the boards in parallel

cnxsoft has quit [Quit: cnxsoft]
<wens> megi: I have, but I haven't spent time to figure why
<megi> ah, got the issue, it's a debugfs_ return value confusion in core ASoC code
<megi> at some time code was written with assumption that it returns NULL on error, but it was change to return PTR_ERR
<wens> might be related to everything being converted into a component
<wens> oh, that simple lol
<megi> some code paths still asume NULL values

<wens> it might truly be that we have two components with the same name
<megi> prior in the boot there's an error sun4i-codec 1c22c00.codec: ASoC: codec-analog@1f015c0 not registered
<megi> but that may be EDEFER_PROBE issue
<wens> yeah, that one's a defer probe
<megi> but it's not clear to me if create_card just before needs to be freed in the error path
<megi> it's not using devm_
<megi> and if it's not freed it may be keeping debugfs resources around
<megi> and we get non-fatal conflict on that later on re-probe
<megi> but I'm not that deep into asoc code, just speculating :)
<megi> anyway, maybe it's ok
<megi> it looks like it's just allocating memory and not calling into soc-core code

<megi> maybe it's a naming conflict between codec and DAI components
<megi> so these two register_component calls will result in the same name https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/latest/source/sound/soc/sunxi/sun4i-codec.c#L1785
tllim has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]

<megi> interesting, that since various things in soc-core are looked up by component name, that this works, since these two components must be masking each other, if they have the same name
<megi> here's my dmesg with some prints that verifies that there's a naming conflict https://megous.com/dl/tmp/dai-reg

<matteosilex> hello all
<matteosilex> I am trying to get a Realtek driver for the RTL8188EU to run on a 4.4.120 kernel that I have on an OpenWRT build
<matteosilex> this is a Realtek provided driver, not the one by lfinger that is availble on github
<matteosilex> they seem to support 4.x kernels on other architectures, but not on sunxi
<matteosilex> for sunxi, they seem to depend on 3.x sunxi (they have calls to to deal with fex files, which have been superceded by Linux's device tree e.g. script_get_item())

<hellsenberg> matteosilex: does openwrt use the sunxi kernel?
<karlp> no, it uses upstream with a few patches, sunxi on openwrt on 4.4 is.... old....
<karlp> current openwrt is on 4.19 for sunxi
<karlp> like, the 4.19 patch stack is just a few board tweaks: https://git.openwrt.org/?p=openwrt/openwrt.git;a=tree;f=target/linux/sunxi/patches-4.19;h=83c0631960707a5f74b0cfd10320294824a376f1;hb=HEAD
<matteosilex> karlp: you are right, unfortunately I am stuck on a 4.4 kernel
<matteosilex> but the problem I have with this Realtek driver would be the same if I were on 4.19, I think
<hellsenberg> then I guess that rtl8188eu driver should work fine on openwrt as it's a mostly mainline kernel
<matteosilex> hellsemberg: the issue here is that their driver is tested up to 4.14 for Intel, but only legacy 3.x sunxi for sunxi
<hellsenberg> and why's that a problem?
<matteosilex> I can get it to build by removing the sw_usb_enable_hcd(), sw_usb_disable_hcd() calls and the fex file references, but then of course it won't work =)
<hellsenberg> matteosilex: got a link to the driver code?
<matteosilex> that is a problem because this driver uses fex file for a couple of parameters (which I could hardcode, that's fine) and for sw_usb_*
<matteosilex> yes, I can give you a link in a second
yann has joined #linux-sunxi

<martinayotte> matteosilex: In Armbian, we are using this git : https://github.com/aircrack-ng/rtl8188eus
<matteosilex> oh, that is interesting
<matteosilex> the code looks similar to the driver I got from Realtek
<matteosilex> and similar makefile too
<matteosilex> but it's community project, am I right?
<matteosilex> calls to sw_usb_enable_hcd(usb_wifi_host) and script_parser_fetch()
<matteosilex> which kind of means you have to build against 3.x
<matteosilex> are you somehow using this on 4.x kernels?
SopaXorzTaker has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<martinayotte> matteosilex: Armbian provides 4.4.y, 4.19.y as well as 5.3.y. I'm not fluent with this driver itself, maybe you can try doing an Armbian build to figure out ?
<martinayotte> matteosilex: looking at my build tree, I see that platform_ARM_SUNxi_usb.c isn't part of the build, in the platform directory, only platform_ops.c is compiled. Maybe something wrong in your config ?
<matteosilex> mmm. might be. i think it's brought in by the SUNxI platform define together with USB interface
