<catphish> avph: afaik it'll only be limited by the size of the sram in that case (no worries about clobbering FEL stack), though i don't know if any artificial limits are imposed
<KotCzarny> a64 has a bit bigger sram afair, might be a interesting testcase

<catphish> vsync is surprisingly hard :(
<KotCzarny> didnt you say that you had vsync already working?
apritzel has joined #linux-sunxi
<catphish> i did, i thought i did :(
<catphish> but it seems i did a poor job of it
<catphish> i'm just trying to implement a simple double buffer, but i seem to keep accidentally writing to the active buffer
<KotCzarny> make it a pointer?
<KotCzarny> that only changes when you are dumping the contents
<catphish> i think the problem is that it's not 100% clear when the hardware switches to the new buffer
<catphish> i use a simple double buffer, once per frame, i give the hardware a pointer to the complete, just-rendered frame, and the software a pointer to put the next frame (which unfortunately is the frame previously pointed to by the hardware)
<catphish> the solution is probably just a third buffer
<catphish> current frame (accessed by hardware), next frame (accessed by software) and previous frame (unused, in case hardware is still accessing it)

<jero> Net147, I'm trying to get mali r6p2 started on A20 with mainline 4.20, with the eglfs_kms Qt integration, but no luck so far. I saw you were active with it, are there hints it should work ?

<Net147> jero: can you provide the strace?
<jero> Net147, I'll try to, I'd need to come back to that build. I did some other tries with the fbdev driver variant, and noticed the only way to make it work on 4.20 was to have CONFIG_DRM_FBDEV_LEAK_PHYS_SMEM=y
clemens3_ has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<Net147> jero: you were using r6p2 wayland blob before right?
<jero> yes, r6p2 wayland. let me check if I kept a trace in my buffer
clemens3_ has joined #linux-sunxi
<jero> Net147: I kept a dmesg bits/ldd mapping https://paste.fedoraproject.org/paste/1V760Pb1VsaXoHIaqc6KSA/raw
<Net147> jero: libqeglfs-kms-egldevice-integration.so is the wrong one, you want libqeglfs-kms-integration.so
<Net147> jero: libqeglfs-kms-egldevice-integration.so is for NVIDIA

<jero> ah!
<Net147> jero: try adding QT_QPA_EGLFS_INTEGRATION=eglfs_kms
clemens3_ has quit [Ping timeout: 268 seconds]
<jero> it was set
<Net147> jero: does the plugin exist?
<jero> but that failed, my buildroot install didn't build/deploy that eglfs-kms-integration I think
<Net147> jero: okay, then you need to check in Qt 5 configure output
<jero> do you know if there a difference (performance wise) between the fbdev and kms/wayland integrations with qt ?
<jero> Net147, thanks for the heads up. I got messed by this kms-egldevice think
<jero> thing*
<Net147> jero: it's been more than a year since a stopped using fbdev so I don't remember well, but I think it is a bit faster. hard to notice on my tiny 480x272 LCD though.
<jero> Net147: I'm using a 800x480 lcd too. do you know if a QT_QPA_EGLFS_KMS_CONFIG json is needed for Qt ?
<Net147> jero: works fine without it
<jero> I'll give it a try
<Net147> jero: another thing to watch out for is it loading mesa libraries
<Net147> jero: either make sure it isn't deployed in your rootfs or you can rename/move them
<jero> Net147: I don't have any mesa libs in my build so I think that should be ok.
<Net147> jero: other benefits of using KMS - console output doesn't interfere with graphics, mulitple monitor support, screen resolution is dynamic instead of fixed
<jero> Net147: good points
<Net147> jero: are you using resistive touch screen?

<Net147> jero: you may need to increase CMA memory allocation if GPU runs out of memory by adding cma=256M or similar to kernel command line
<jero> Net147: thanks, I figured that out. do you frequently need more than 128MB ?
<Net147> jero: depends how complex the graphics are, how many textures you load, the screen resolution, etc.
<Net147> jero: if the GPU uses less, it will be available for reuse by applications
<Net147> jero: I think cma=256M is normally used on Raspberry Pi with the open source graphics driver
<jero> Net147: I'll do a few tests with chromium :/
