hi guys
<bertje__>
does anyone know what happened to the way threads are scheduled, between 4.8.1 mainline and 4.10 mainline? I have an application that does realtime audio and was running fine on 4.8.1 but on 4.10 i had audio dropouts ... changing the IO scheduler to noop improved things but still not 100% fixed so wondering what's going on

<stdint>
bertje__, I heard this problem before
<stdint>
but it is about someone want a realtime linux on rockchip
<stdint>
are you using jack?
<bertje__>
@stdint i'm using alsa
<bertje__>
@stdint with the default alsa audio output on 4.8.1 i had no problem, with 4.10 a lot of audio dropouts in my application
<bertje__>
@stdint so I switched to the direct hardware output which improved things, and then I did the IO scheduler change to noop

@stdint but still, I have some audio dropouts so it's still not fixed... wondering what else to configure in the kernel and why this is now a problem with 4.10
<stdint>
bertje__, I will check the mail
<bertje__>
@stdint great, thanks for helping
<stdint>
I only know the 4.10 introduce the deadline scheduler, but I am not familiar with scheduler within kernel
<bertje__>
@stdint should i try deadline instead of noop? some people only wrote that noop is the best for audio but no idea really
<stdint>
I didn't have a try on it
<bertje__>
@stdint just tried with deadline, similar performance to noop
<bertje__>
@stdint i still think something is going on with the way threads are scheduled or maybe there was a change to the alsa system i'm not aware of that can play a role...
<bertje__>
@stdint my application was built in a debian jessie chroot ... could it be i have to update to 4.10 there as well, or shouldn't this matter?

hi all, I have test GPU in RK3399 with firefly board. I get a poor result: glmark get 15 fps,and glmark-es2 get 50 fps. but if i use glmark-es2 --off-screen, the result is 233 fps, and this time, GPU's freq is running at 800Mhz. I guess that poor result is becaus of rockchip-drm. how about it? thanks.
<phh>
well glmark isn't supposed to work, mali can only do opengles, not opengl
<phh>
(let's dream of a mesa mali driver with opengl \o/)
<phh>
(there are some libraries which does api translation from opengl to opengles if you're interested)
<phh>
as for on-screen vs off-screen, I remember mali API doesn't respect vsync off
