<bmbeach> I just ran a test where I created a file 96000 words long of zeros
<bmbeach> (so I don't have to listen to the noise(although I don't actually get sound))
<bmbeach> and used the following command:
<bmbeach> time aplay -t raw -c 1 -r samplerate sound_test
<bmbeach> where I varied the samplerate from 8000 to 9600
<bmbeach> Now at 8000 Hz you should expect the file to play for 12 seconds
<bmbeach> and at 96000 you would expect it to play for 1 sec
<bmbeach> (note that I am specifically using mono. You don't have to. you can adjust your
<bmbeach> calculations accordingly)
<bmbeach> The following is the results
<bmbeach> 8000 Hz 0m11.649s
<bmbeach> 96000 0m0.576s
<bmbeach> leaving out all the intermediate tests, it seems that at the higher sample rates it is
<bmbeach> playing too fast and at the low sample rates it is about right.
<bmbeach> I just noticed that I typed 9600 somewhere. I mean 96000
<bmbeach> and I should of said I created file 96000 bytes long. The meanings of the aplay parameters
<bmbeach> is -t a raw file, no header
<bmbeach> -c 1 channel (mono)
<bmbeach> and since i didn't specify it aplay defaulted to bytes
