<lvrp16> swap and zswap and zram are an absolute must
<lvrp16> i remember running make and the box dying
<lvrp16> without those
ldevulder_ is now known as ldevulder
<Xogium> lvrp16: ahah, well my whole system uses a so small memory that I can build kernel without swap
<Xogium> but I don't build it in ram, it would be useless
<Xogium> 2 gb of ram and then the rest is swap so meh, as slow as building like I do now
<Xogium> hrm, some success I guess
<Xogium> I can now startx just fine
<Xogium> but I get stuck in it
<Xogium> ctrl+alt+f2 doesn't bring me here in tty2

<ldevulder> narmstrong, lvrp16, I created a wiki page for libretech-cc with opensuse: https://en.opensuse.org/HCL:LibreTech-CC, just a link to the khadas vim procedure as it should be pretty much the same
<narmstrong> ldevulder: cool, thanks ! I'll validate this !
<narmstrong> but it should work if VIM works
<ldevulder> narmstrong, yes I'm pretty sure too.

<Ivanovic> hi everybody!
<Ivanovic> I am experiencing some strange issues with my odroid c2 after the last update of my archlinux system
<Ivanovic> if no display is attached to HDMI it will not boot
<Ivanovic> after downgrading lvm2 and device-mapper it seems to work again
<Ivanovic> lvm2-2.02.177-5-aarch64 and device-mapper-2.02.177-5-aarch64 work and allow "really headless" booting
<Xogium> woe weird
<Xogium> I'm not experiencing this :O then again I have mainline u-boot and kernel
<Xogium> I boot with no screen attached now :p in fact I use xorg's dummy video driver
<Ivanovic> this was the update I did: https://pastebin.com/DfbSqCCD
<Ivanovic> already tried downgrading systemd and the kernel
<Ivanovic> after downgrading lvm2 and device-mapper as well it suddenly booted again
<Ivanovic> I am also using mainline u-boot and kernel
<Xogium> yeah I did this one yesterday :S
<Ivanovic> okay, let's upgrade systemd and the kernel again, bbs
<Ivanovic> Xogium: did you upgrade to lvm2 2.02.179-1 ?
Ivanovic has quit [Quit: Caught sigterm, terminating...]
<Xogium> hmm, I don't have lvm2 on here

<Ivanovic> re
<Ivanovic> okay, it really works just with those 2 packages still in the old version
<Xogium> do you need lvm2 ?
<Ivanovic> comes with the distro...
<Xogium> can remove it if you don't need
<Xogium> see what depends on it for example
<Xogium> device-mapper is kind of required though
<Ivanovic> I guess it is device-mappers fault but I had to downgrade lvm2 at the same time
<Xogium> but, for here I only have device-mapper and it's not causing issue
<Ivanovic> Required By : libblockdev
<Ivanovic> which again is: Required By : udisks2
<Xogium> hmm
<Xogium> lvm2 you mean or device-mapper
<Ivanovic> lvm2 is listed as dependency for libblockdev
<Ivanovic> and no, i don't know why i got the package...
<Ivanovic> just tried a pacman -R lvm2 followed by pacman -Su and nothing else was pulled in...
<Ivanovic> since I could uninstall it, i guess it might have been part of the default config
<Ivanovic> lets see if the odroid still boots...
<Xogium> it's part of the base group
<Ivanovic> :: cryptsetup: removing device-mapper breaks dependency 'device-mapper'
<Ivanovic> :: nfs-utils: removing device-mapper breaks dependency 'device-mapper'
<Xogium> yeah, don't touch that one
<Ivanovic> okay, device-mapper is something i don't be able to get rid of since i am using nfs
Ivanovic has quit [Quit: Caught sigterm, terminating...]
<Xogium> not only that but systemd depends on cryptsetup

<Ivanovic> okay, still booting without lvm2, that is looking good
<Ivanovic> now let's see what happens if I try to upgrade device-mapper again...
<Xogium> though why on earth would a logical volume manager breaks booting with hdmi
<Xogium> :D

<Ivanovic> I have no idea why it would break it, but it did!
<Ivanovic> thanks for the pointer that lvm2 is not mandatory
<Xogium> the hell XD
<Ivanovic> :)
<Xogium> you're welcome
<Xogium> and, if it was then by this point I would not be here
<Xogium> I upgraded yesterday see, and I only have my c2 to do everything now because my desktop died on me
<Ivanovic> ugh, that is evil!
<Xogium> so, no way to recover since the only machine alive here is the c2 itself
<Ivanovic> btw kernel 4.17 significantly improved USB for me
<Ivanovic> before I always had issues with my usb tv card (errors during recording)
<Xogium> did it ? Hmm. Had no issue with it even on 4.11
<Ivanovic> suddenly, with 4.17, the errors were down to "close to zero, often zero)
<Xogium> right now I'm just stuck trying to get my c2 to behave like my desktop :p dummy video driver for xorg, but if I start xorg I'm stuck in it
<Xogium> as in, ctrl-alt-f2 doesn't work
<Ivanovic> even better: live streaming from tvheadend to tablet and desktop works a lot better, including hd streams
<Xogium> woohoo
<Ivanovic> was a significant change
<Ivanovic> and before I am pretty sure the issue was usb performance
<Xogium> could very well be
<Ivanovic> since it was even worse when I tried to store a recording on an usb stick instead of the micro sd card
<Ivanovic> (error rate was worse)
<Ivanovic> so how usable is the odroid c2 as desktop system?
<Xogium> it's fine for me
<Xogium> except I get stuck in xorg hehe
<Ivanovic> which desktop environment are you using?
<Xogium> ratpoison as window manager
<Xogium> but a friend of mine ran mate
<Ivanovic> oookay, I am used to kde / plasma
<Ivanovic> so I guess that would be total overkill
<Ivanovic> :)
<Xogium> heh, you could probably barely run it
<Ivanovic> and now add firefox as webbrowser
<Ivanovic> boooom!
<Xogium> yeah I'm about to test firefox on the c2
<Xogium> hmm, dunno about sighted folks but barely usable with screen reader, keeps freezing
