<wickwire> Hi guys, is it possible to use cedrus (video accel) on framebuffer alone?
DEac-_ has joined #cubieboard
DEac- has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<toketin> wickwire: yes you can, but XBMC doesn't work fine
<toketin> it's laggy with 720p videos
<wickwire> toketin: it's ok, I'm not after xbmc
<swabbles> wickwire: could try mplayer.
<wickwire> I've installed the sunxi-libvdpau library from the wiki,
<swabbles> I normally use that from X11 though.
<wickwire> installed mplayer,
<wickwire> mplayer came from the repos, not compiled locally
<wickwire> -vo vdpau complains it needs X11
<swabbles> That's fine if vdpau is enabled :).
<swabbles> Hmm.
<toketin> wickwire: Cubieboard 1?
<wickwire> 2
<wickwire> mplayer -vo vdpau -vc ffmpeg12vdpau,ffh264vdpau big_buck_bunny_1080p_H264_AAC_25fps_7200K.MP4
<swabbles> wickwire: that's right, I just looked it up.
<swabbles> And it seems vdpau is tied to X11.
<swabbles> (this is even the case for the nvidia implementation)
<wickwire> hmm
<swabbles> So people suggest to juse use X11 without WM.
<wickwire> ok
<wickwire> my idea was, if at all possible
<wickwire> to try and tie libvdpau to Qt5
<wickwire> replace the qtmultimedia backend
<wickwire> and have the graphics from Qt work with the video
<wickwire> currently I'm ok with Qt5 acceleration on both FB and X11
<wickwire> but I'd prefer to use FB
<wickwire> now I was thinking of a way to somehow import the video library
<swabbles> You can probably integrate the vdpau stuff inside a Qt widget (I am sure people have done this before, although I am not sure if that is what you are after).
<swabbles> But keep in mind that the vdpau driver is still experimental, as sunxi-kms is being developed.
<toketin> so the CB can handle 1080p video well?
chihchun is now known as chihchun_afk
<swabbles> I've successfully played both Sintel 1080p and Big Buck Bunny 1080p using sunxi-vdpau and mplayer.
<toketin> swabbles: mali 400?
<wickwire> I have the notion I have too, but with X11
<swabbles> And with an SSD, you can also properly seek (it will play from there instanteously).
<toketin> i've the Cubieboard 1
<swabbles> toketin: the mali 400 is only for 3D accel.
<swabbles> It is unrelated to video encoding/decoding.
chihchun_afk is now known as chihchun
<swabbles> wickwire: it's kind of sad that vdpau depends on X11, but yes.
<toketin> swabbles: because i've tried xbmc under my CB1, with Archlinux Arm and Cubian (debian based) but it doesn't work fine, no 720p videos neither audio :/
<swabbles> toketin: both the A10 and the A20 have a VPU that can easily decode H.264.
<swabbles> And sunxi-vdpau works for both.
<toketin> swabbles: how can i try?
<swabbles> Basically you just need something that uses vdpau and sunxi-vdpau.
<swabbles> e.g. mplayer with vdpau.
<rellla> toketin: in the case, you didn't notice, http://linux-sunxi.org/CedarX/VideoRenderingChart
<toketin> rellla: hi! i used you repo to build XBMC
<toketin> but with low results
focus has joined #cubieboard
<toketin> i've tried also this customized kernel: https://romanrm.net/a10/kernel with Video support
<toketin> CedarX video engine supported
<rellla> you should be able to play the videos mentioned in the charts. first try these. and for the audio. current repo won't work with newer kernels. it needs little patching.
<wickwire> swabbles: the X11 limitation you're describing, how could I work on getting it for framebuffer? Who is working on cedrus at the moment?
<wickwire> considering it is possible
astrapotro has joined #cubieboard
<swabbles> wickwire: I'd check the wiki for that or ask about it in the linux-sunxi channel.
<wickwire> swabbles: thanks
<swabbles> The thing is that the X11 limitation is most-likely to be a limiation due to VDPAU, not sunxi though.
<toketin> rellla: it doesn't work with 720p videos :/ have you tried on CB1?
<rellla> swabbles: thats it!
<rellla> toketin: yes.
<toketin> maybe with a older package
<rellla> toketin: which video won't work exactly? provide info and fill out the chart.
<rellla> toketin: last time i tried, was long time ago. but with latest xbmca10
<toketin> rellla: how can i find the video's info?
<rellla> use mediainfo. i recommend you to first read the wiki, then go on. it's mentioned on the site i posted above.
<rellla> i suggest you this way to go: use stage/sunxi-3.4, patch xbmc https://github.com/juanfont/xbmca10/commit/e88ed1c065e44f9c2e8b2b31489442e8077853b5 , build xbmca10 as described, test the videos http://linux-sunxi.org/CedarX/VideoRenderingChart , then report your issues ;)
<rellla> toketin: and keep the "attention note" in mind :p

<rellla> yes

<n-st> i assume the easiest way to get the appropriate .config for his system would be to install some version of linux-headers, but i'm not sure which one he'll need for a cubietruck...
