<n1k> I just moved a message handler that worked before into a Cinch plugin and now the bot won't react to messages that match the pattern anymore. Even though when I start the bot it tells me that both the handler and the executor have been registered. Any idea what might be the problem?
<dominikh> n1k: plugins have a default prefix that gets added to the patterns
<dominikh> (the default is /^!/)
<waxjar> dominikh, you should get on writing the default prefix thing and the message-sending-on-its-own in some document somewhere :P
<dominikh> waxjar: heh. patches welcome :P
<waxjar> is the github wiki in use?
<dominikh> not for documentation
<n1k> dominikh: I see, thanks!
<waxjar> what's the format the documentation is written in?
<n1k> dominikh: How can I change that prefix though?
<dominikh> waxjar: there's the readme in markdown, and there's the docs hosted at rubydoc.info which are YARD for the api docs and markdown files for the extra documentation
<dominikh> n1k: for the entire bot or a single plugin?
<n1k> dominikh: for the entire bot preferably
<dominikh> in your configure block, c.plugins.prefix = //
<n1k> dominikh: sweet, thanks a lot!
<dominikh> cheers
<dominikh> waxjar: might be easiest to just have a FAQ or something in the readme
<n1k> that default prefix thing is quite confusing I must say
<waxjar> i was thinking of extending common_mistakes.md
<dominikh> or that, if people do read that
<dominikh> n1k: most bots have it in a way or another, that's why I went for it. nowadays I regret the choice ;)
<n1k> dominikh: why don't you change it then? :P
<dominikh> n1k: because I'd have to release Cinch 3.x for that.
<dominikh> it's a change that would break existing bots that are written for 2.x
<n1k> true

<waxjar> you've got a pull request :p
<dominikh> darn
<dominikh> waxjar: I'm confused.
<dominikh> waxjar: your name and email on github is vastly different from what shows up in the commit log
<waxjar> ah, yes. paul brickfeld doesn't exist :p
<dominikh> ... heh
<dominikh> I kinda liked him :P
<dominikh> merged (and slightly reworded)
<waxjar> :)
<dominikh> I also think that it kinda blows your cover :P

<waxjar> yeah, i should just change it
<waxjar> i used to be sort of emberassed about being geeky and shit, but i figured if i'd like a job as a programmer some day i'd have to start using my real identity in the commits at least
<dominikh> ... embarassed? sheesh
<dominikh> when I was 13, I brought a C++ book to a school trip
<waxjar> lol
<dominikh> and yeah, real identity helps :P
<dominikh> my name and face is on everything I do nowadays
