<focus>
its a few months old but should still give you starting point to check the hardware with working software

rmull: yep, focus's advice is good to follow. he references the config that i created and have used successfully.
<lkcl>
except i did things as modules not built-ins
<lkcl>
so you then need to do "modprobe hdmi" and others
<lkcl>
rmull: the alternative is to use the sunxi-3.4 cb2-dev kernel which works just as well.... *if* you have the right script.fex file
<rmull>
lkcl: Either way - is it expected that there would never be any HDMI signal at all? Is it possible I have a hardware problem? I am using the script.fex from your website with the mmc stuff modified

<rmull>
I have all the sunxi framebuffer stuff built into the kernel and I have console=tty0 in my kernel args
<rmull>
So between the kernel framebuffer support, the latest script.fex, and the correct kernel args, I should be seeing a console over HDMI
<rmull>
I could try the other distro just to test the hardware I guess, but the point of this is that I want to use a different distro, and the stuff I'm trying to do should be distro-agnostic
<rmull>
but to test the hardware it's probably worth the effort

someone in #linux-sunxi says that people don't use xf86-video-sunxi anyway. I guess maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. But, still, that shouldn't prevent console framebuffer.
