<rhcp> anyone confirming this working on the note3
<rhcp> which defeats the purpose :)
<rhcp> without modding the kernel
<rhcp> im trying to see how to even trigger it

<paulk-collins> hi guys!
<paulk-collins> codeworkx, Entropy512, Espenfjo, xplodwild: you've perhaps heard of: http://www.fsf.org/blogs/community/replicant-developers-find-and-close-samsung-galaxy-backdoor ?
<xplodwild> didn't know that, reading
<paulk-collins> making quite some noise already, I thought you'd want to get ahead of it, because you're going to see the downfall of that, given that you use the proprietary blobs

<IbrahimA> paulk-collins: is it a recent development that you've reverse engineered an open source RIL?
<paulk-collins> IbrahimA, no, it's been there for years now
<IbrahimA> oh
<paulk-collins> we started when the Nexus S was released
<IbrahimA> why dont others use it then?
<paulk-collins> Ask them, not me!
<paulk-collins> it's not fully feature-complete
<paulk-collins> but could be if people decided to get involved in it
<IbrahimA> hah
<IbrahimA> not feature complete means?
<paulk-collins> some stuff doesn't work
<IbrahimA> nvm found the wiki page lol
<paulk-collins> yep
<paulk-collins> all there
<IbrahimA> or well, the two are the same i guess lol
<IbrahimA> cdma seems a big one, but i guess that's a) impossible for people outside the US, and b) irrelevant for people outside the US
<paulk-collins> well cdma could be done
<paulk-collins> why not?
<paulk-collins> you just need someone in the us to do it
<IbrahimA> i guess most people (eg. myself) don't care enough to actually work on it, but will take advantage of it if someone else does it :P

<paulk-collins> anyway, feel free to email me, codeworkx, Entropy512, Espenfjo, xplodwild if you're interested in solving it on CM/Omni

<xplodwild> paulk-collins: is it "patchable" on the blobs?
<paulk-collins> xplodwild, likewise, but I doubt that's the best approach
<xplodwild> well transitionning to the opensource blobs isn't really doable without them being fully featured
<paulk-collins> xplodwild, yeah but as long as you're not using them, it'll just be me working on it on my spare week-ends (which are quite rare nowadays)
<paulk-collins> I mean, one could start working on it
<paulk-collins> if you think it's an important goal to achieve
<paulk-collins> xplodwild, the suggestion I have for fixing it is patching the kernel
<paulk-collins> just make it reject RFS messages
<paulk-collins> quite easy
<Jiangyi> paulk-collins: Do the SELinux policies we have in place prevent this to some extent?
<paulk-collins> they restrict the scope of accessible files
<xplodwild> oh right, didn't think of that
<paulk-collins> anyway, just get back to me through email if you feel like doing something about it

<Entropy512> Jiangyi: xplodwild: unfortunately paulk left - main issue with patching the kernel to reject the RFS messages is there is no good way to test the patch
<Entropy512> unless we've got a confirmed situation where an RFS message comes from the modem
